  • Today as a Christmas treat, we welcome all round entertainer Bobby Davro to the podcast for a chat about his TV career and his subsequent pantomime appearances, most notably with the legendary Mickey Rooney in Milton Keynes. Find out which pop star jumped out of a wardrobe while Bobby was impersonating him, who's annoying catchphrase he helped to cultivate, and why he could never be a contestant on I'm a Celebrity'. Hear the real story of how Bobby was badly injured filming a BBC game show, why he hated appearing on 'Dancing on Ice', and which other comedian he is often mistaken for. We also chat about the joy of finding old adverts within YouTube clips and how he got to impersonate the cast of 'Rainbow' to their actual faces.

  • Today we welcome Australian actor Stephen Curry to the podcast for a chinwag about his varied career in TV and film, most notably his outstanding performance in 'Hounds of Love' and as King Yakan in Marvel's 'Thor: Love and Thunder'. We discuss the power of wigs and hair dye, rudeness dressed up as a well-meaning compliment, and why he doesn't quite understand the appeal of 'Taskmaster'. Stephen then explains what it's really like to shoot in remote locations, why some movies should only be watched once, and why he has only good things to say about his 'Spreadsheet' co-star Katherine Parkinson. He then reminds me of his turn as a camera-toting tourist in the Greg McLean Outback Horror film 'Rogue', before explaining how he somehow managed to play three different characters in 'Neighbours' without anyone noticing. We end by squeezing in a few cheeky format questions while Stephen explains how he managed to secure a lifetime supply of potato chips.

  • Today we welcome the multi-talented comedian and director Stuart Laws to the podcast for a chat about his passion for flipping beer mats, the confines of a performer's comedic uniform, and why many stand-up comics tend to look alike. Stuart explains how he's adapted his onstage persona since being diagnosed with Autism and how that discovery has helped him understand the emotions that neurodiverse audience members may be suppressing during his own shows. Stuart also explains how he likes to nurture upcoming talent through his production company 'Turtle Canyon Media' while weighing up the pros and cons of judging your own successes against that of your peers. This episode was recorded in Edinburgh during the Summer of 2024.

  • Today we welcome Korean-Australian comedian Harry Jun to the podcast to chat about the Scottish obsession with deep fat frying and why he'd love to be a contestant on Masterchef, Gen Z's appropriation of our childhood treasures via the rise of retro cool, the bizarre Australian Kids TV Show 'Round the Twist' and why some Americans speak funny, whereby Harry introduces me to the phrase vocal fry. Harry then explains why most Australian comedians tend to know one other and why practical effects in film and TV create an emotional connection that CGI cannot compete with.

I should add that when Harry asks if Rob Lowe was in Parks and Rec? I reply 'I don't think so' which is of course wrong. How could I forget?

  • Today we welcome Comedian and Cartoonist Paul Savage to the podcast for a chat about the ever changing life cycle of a comedy set, why putting too much pressure on an opening joke can ruin an act, and why comedians today might need to keep their day jobs. We discuss why actors and footballers aged differently in the '80s, how it was impossible to find a stumbled upon TV show after the fact before the internet, and why '90s sitcoms put so much emphasis on getting your shit together at an early age. This episode was recorded during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2024, where Paul kept mislaying his stapler!

  • Today on Television Times Comedian and Broadcaster Mark Dolan drops in for a long overdue chat, and yes we do talk briefly about his rather left field move into the choppy waters of political discourse, but mostly it's a chat about trendy glasses, crusty rolls and how 'Minder' was once filmed in his dad's pub. Mark explains how he tries to find life hacks wherever possible and how he dreams of opening a chain of cafes that sell three types of stew. We also discuss the joys of a cash and carry, Trump's unexpected election win, and how Mark once attempted a terrifying ski jump on Channel 4's 'The Jump' without being able to see a thing.

  • Today we welcome comedian and author Ian Stone to the podcast. Ian explains how he deals with divisive issues onstage and why world events have unfortunately allowed previous routines to once again become relevant. He shares his love for Billy Connolly, especially on Parkinson, and breaks down the brilliance of Ronnie Barker's comic delivery in the TV show 'Porridge'. Although Ian is very much into his music, we find out how he really felt whilst appearing on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'. We also chat about the slog of writing books, TV appearances versus live performance, and how Ian once co-wrote a filthy sketch for the cast of children's TV show 'Rainbow'.

Louis explains why performing to Fringe audiences is a soulless and joyless experience and why he won't be coming back any time soon. • Today we welcome the man who was at the absolute centre of TV and celebrity culture in the 1990s. Long before TFI Friday and Britpop there was a Friday night Channel 4 show that drew an enormous viewership among the young, and that show was 'The Word', a television show helmed by Mr Terry Christian. Starting out in radio at the age of just 19, Terry has had a remarkable career that put him front and centre of the Manchester music scene, and later in a position to fight for those bands to gain exposure on Channel 4. It hasn't been easy and Terry pulls no punches in telling his story. Listen as he regales us with tales of hanging out with James Brown and Robin Williams, and the true story behind Oliver Reed's infamous drunken interview, as well as that legendary awkward Bill Hicks interaction.

Listen as he relays the story of landing a life changing TV hosting job and the chaos around the whole experience, all of which just happened to occur during a global pandemic. • Today we welcome Howard J. Ford, Director of the hit film ‘The Ledge’ onto the pod to talk about his new movie ‘Escape’ and his upcoming thriller ‘DarkGame’. Find out why he prefers to film in exotic places, even if scouting out a location can sometimes become dangerous, and why he's a big fan of capturing the action by shooting just one take. We discuss why watching films on a phone is a no-no, and how our ever-connectivity with devices is leading to us lose one other. Find out the lengths Howard went to to make 'The Lockdown Hauntings' and the unlikely spot where he ate one of the greatest meals of his life.

  • This week we welcome comedian Yuriko Kotani to the podcast for a conversation about Japan, comedy, food and telly. I was lucky enough to be able to sit down during the busy Edinburgh Fringe for a podchat with Yuriko whereby we discussed performing comedy in a language other than your own, the magic that lies within Doraemon's fourth dimensional pocket and watching Japanese horror films at way too young an age. Yuriko shares her love for The League of Gentlemen and British comedy in general, while we also discuss the beauty of both Japanese architecture and food presentation.

  • This week to kick off Season 3 we welcome Children's TV megastar Nikky Smedley for a chat about her pivotal role playing Laa-Laa in the original Teletubbies. I was lucky enough to share a venue with Nikky during this year's Edinburgh Fringe which led to our chance meeting and subsequent podchat. If you want to know what it was really like to be inside that big yellow costume, then this is the episode for you.
