the self tape
Since lockdowns hit in 2020, and by lockdowns we mean covid, auditions for actors have predominantly been known as ‘the self tape’. This style of first round auditioning has its blessings and its curses. No longer, for instance, do actors have to disappoint employees last minute to rush off to an in person audition with a casting director. But then, 48 hours to find a coach or reader (hi family member! Hi partner!) and a professional set up?! This poses problems. You also don't get any immediate feedback let alone meet the director or casting director. In this episode, Kate and Kaiya talk about all things self tapes including sharing some tips and tricks they have developed over their many years of coaching and acting. They also ask, is there a better way? We would love your thoughts!

Social media
To have or not have? That is the question. In this episode of The Actors Ally podcast, Kaiya and Kate rumble with the ‘need’ for social media platforms like Instagram to say, secure auditions or create and maintain a ‘profile’. Kaiya and Kate acknowledge it’s a full time job to manage and maintain social media accounts for work but ask, does it always align with our values as artists? A few deep breaths in this episode.
