Vi besöker Bohusläns museum i Uddevalla för att få veta mer om maritima ristningar. Utmed bohuskusten har sjömän under hundratals år gjort ristningar i de naturhamnar där de har sökt skydd. I vissa hamnar som på Hamnholmarna finns det hundratals ristningar i form av kompassrosor, bomärken, adelsmärken, initialer och olika symboler. Placeringen av de här ristningarna visar dolda sjövägar och är för de flesta okända till skillnad mot de mer kända hällristningarna.
Arkeologerna Linnea Nordell och Ingela Lundin vid Bohusläns museum har intresserat sig för de maritima ristningarna och har kartlagt dem under nio års tid. De berättar om sina fynd, vilka som gjorde ristningarna och så får vi höra om några mer anmärkningsvärda personer som gjort ristningar som det har gått att spåra. Vi gör också ett besök i utställningen som pågår nu under hösten 2019.

Skogen är där de vilda djuren har sina gömslen och bon men har ju en viktig roll även för oss människor som ett ställe dit vi kan dra oss undan.
I det här avsnittet beger vi oss ut i skogen för att uppleva skogen med hjälp av skogsbadsguiden Laurence Nachin.
Hon berättar om hur skogen påverkar oss på ett positivt sätt, bakgrunden till hur skogsbad, eller shinrin-yoku som det heter på japanska, och hur det går till.

Vi fortsätter på temat gömsle men mer i form av en konkret plats, för vi ska besöka ett slags gömsle som ligger fullt synligt i Slottskogen i Göteborg.
Med hjälp av Slottskogsobservatoriets föreståndare Katja Lindblom får vi perspektiv på tillvaron genom att skåda ut i rymden.
Vi människor har alltid haft en relation till himlafenomenen och det pratar vi om och försöker också oss på folkbildning i form av att höja allmänhetens kunskap om några stjärnbilder som alla borde känna till. Och mycket annat.

Vi träffar konstnären Malin Årsbog som hittade en fristad i måleriet.
Hon har gjort något ovanligt och modigt, för alldeles nyligen har hon sagt upp sig från sitt välbetalda ingenjörsjobb för att bli konstnär på heltid.
Men det var inte vad hon hade tänkt sig från början utan då handlade livet om att prestera och göra karriär.

This episode is not a regular explorer themed one but rather back to the first season's focus on archives.
Here I interview the creator of the podcast Transmissions from Jonestown Shannon Howard who has used actual archive material in the form of tape recordings to tell the story of the Jonestown massacre/suicide in Guyana 40 years ago.
I didn't anything about this horrible mass suicide when I happened upon her podcast but I was intrigued that she used the recordings that the cult, Peoples Temple and its leader Jim Jones, hade made to build the story. The podcast was so well done that I wanted to know more about its creator and how and why she done it.

This episode is about the explorer archetype The Voyager.
The Voyager is very much like an adventurer in the way they challenge themselves physically. But the adventurer often sets out alone to test his or her limits and this is where the two differs.
The kinds of challenges a voyager take on are more like missions or bigger projects like finding new continents or landing on the moon. They travel to explore hostile environments and must bring with them everything needed for survival.
And in this sense a diver is a voyager.
We meet Jill Heinerth, an experienced cave diver and Explorer in Residence for the Royal Canadian National Geographics society. When she was a little girl she dreamed of being an explorer and today she is!
We talked about taking big risks, how she works with scientists as a diver, the environmental changes she see in the arctic areas and how important water is for all of us.
There is also a bonus episode where Jill Heinerth gives advice on how to do what she has done when it comes to diving but also creating a unconventional career.

Sarah Williams have done extraordinary challenges like Marathon des Sables where you do 6 marathons over 6 days in the Morrocan desert. She has also hiked thru the Appalachian Trail in the US, which is 3540 kilometers in 100 days.

He became world famous when he travelled from Peru to Polynesia on a balsa wood raft in 1946. His book about the journey made a fortune and the film won an Oscar.

We kick off this Explorer theme for real with the Scientist archetype who with her structured approach investigates and dives deep into a topic. Not all researchers are explorers and you can be a scientific explorer without having a formal doctoral degree. It’s all about your mindset and willingness to think for yourself.I made a visit to Stockholm and the Nobel Center to find out more about some of the greatest scientists.
I met Gustav Källstrand who is an historian of ideas and work at the Nobel Center. I met him at their beautiful office in the center of Stockholm, and we came to about curiosity, ideas, what motivates a scientist and the feeling when you realize you’ve discovered things no one has ever seen before and the importance of intuition.

This season will be dedicated to exploring and the great explorers of the world. That will be the overarching theme, but what about archives you might think?
Well they will still be around because they are the big sources of knowledge and inspiration in this podcast. We will continue to visit museums, archives, libraries and other places where interesting people reside so that our insatible curiosity can be pleased for at least a moment.
So I have changed a few things and if you’ve listened to season one you’ve immediatelly identify one big thing I guess - the change of language from Swedish to English. The hope is to reach more listeners by doing so.
But back to the new theme of season two - Explorers - and why I have choosen to focus on that.
The reason is that the explorers are the ones who go on their own paths to discover new places, things, ideas and ways of living and being that the rest of us don’t know of yet. And they all have great stories to tell and who doesn’t love that?
True exploring is about stepping out into the unknown and by doing so the explorer take a big risk because who knows what she or he will find, or if there is anything to find at all. Not everyone is prepared to do so. Most of us prefer to stay in the our safe zone and to live our lives just like everone around us.
The explorer needs to be able to stand the discomfort of leaving it’s tribe and what is well-known.
But the revard is potentially huge. With this new knowledge they can help expand our world, our knowledge and understanding. Where would we be without them?
I’ve identified seven different archetypes of the explorers and in this season we will find out more about them. They are The Voyager, The Adventurer, The Wanderer, The Scientist, The Connesseur, The Visionary and The Artist.
We will go more into this and all the archetypes in this season and we will start off by looking at the Scientist.

I år är det precis hundra år sedan det rådde matbrist i Sverige och runt om i landet protesterade människor mot vad man upplevde var en orättvis fördelning av maten.
I Göteborg utbröt kravaller den 5 maj 1917 och det uppmärksammar Landsarkivet i Göteborg med en utställning som jag besökte på öppningsdagen.
Detta avsnitt handlar om händelserna i Göteborg och bakgrunden till dem. Dessutom handlar det om hur själva utställningen har kommit till. I stället för att dess arkivarier har tagit fram materialet är det arkivets egna användare som gjort forskat fram det utifrån varje deltagares egna intresse. Ett intressant sätt att skapa en utställning.
Kalle Johansson som är arkivarie och programansvarig är den som berättar historien om vad som hände denna dramatiska dag.
Dessutom får vi höra Birgitta Krantz, som är en av dem som varit med och forskat fram materialet till utställningen, berätta om sin mamma som fyllde tretton år precis denna dag och hamnade mitt i dess dramatik. Birgitta Krantz har en blogg där hon berättar mer, besök den gärna birgittakranz.se.

Det här är del två av Avsnitt 17: Det var inte bättre förr, lyssna alltså först på del 1 innan du kommer tillbaka hit!
Jag är inte en särskilt nostalgiska person men ibland händer det att jag kan känna en längtan att få uppleva en viss tidsperiod eller historisk händelse. Men när det gäller sjukvård och medicin, så näe, det händer aldrig.
Där tänker nog de flesta som jag, att de bara vill ta del av det främsta kunnandet i området. När det gäller medicin var det knappast bättre förr.
Däremot är det väldigt intressant att höra hur medicin- och läkekonsten har utvecklats till vad den är idag. Att den ska vara baserad på vetenskap som vi idag tycker är självklart, är en ganska sentida idé och som i vissa läger ännu inte helt har slagit igenom.
