  • The Bluff Council is turning 100 and just as you would expect, we are confused, cranky, and constantly screaming our thoughts into the void. In celebration of this momentous event, we are doing something special: two films in one episode! And what a natural pairing: "On Golden Pond," the 1981 classic starring Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn, and Jane Fonda, and that focuses on the challenges of aging, complex family dynamics, and a genuine fear of mortality, and "There's Something About Mary," the 1998 movie where Cameron Diaz smears c** in her hair. Oh, but it is so much more than just that, isn't it...?Join us as we take a joyous romp into these two famous films and what makes them so memorable and so fun. • "Crash" (2004) is famously one of the most polarizing films of all time. It was released to wide acclaim and went on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, defeating "Brokeback Mountain" in one of the great upsets in Oscars history. In this segment of our larger episode on the film, we discuss some of our complaints. Most of our episodes can be found right here on YouTube, but ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE we will be releasing some of our episodes only on our Patreon channel. • It was a resounding commercial success when it was released in 1994, and it launched Jim Carrey to superstardom. It sparked a sequel, a cartoon series, a spinoff TV movie, and COUNTLESS teenage boys saying "Allllllllll righty then". • For millennials of a certain age, "Hook" is a beloved favorite. It's got stars (Robin Williams! Dustin Hoffman! Julia Roberts!), it's got production value, it's got the beloved Peter Pan IP, and it's got the most famous film director of all time. Only problem is... Spielberg hates it! Most of the stars didn't enjoy it! It was largely savaged by critics and was considered a commercial flop upon its release! How on God's green earth did this film miss!?Join us in Neverland (the imaginary one, not the real-life horror show one (OK but we do spend a second there, too...)) as we dive into all the good and all the bad of "Hook," Steven Spielberg's 1991 Peter Pan extravaganza.00:00 - Intro / This movie is bonkers01:40 - Does every millennial love this movie?02:42 - What Keith loved about it as a child AKA Bob Hoskins!04:54 - What Ev thought about it as a child AKA he's just the WORST07:48 - The tonal inconsistency is this film's biggest problem, look no further than the mermaid or*y10:10 - The editing is weirdly bad throughout12:00 - Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook is so much fun13:04 - Why is this movie called "Hook?"15:10 - Look it was only a matter of time before Michael Jackson came up16:20 - Ev says Robin Williams is miscast, Keith loses his mind, they scream at each other for 16 minutes. • In 2009, we were introduced to Zack Snyder's vision of "Watchmen," the heralded graphic novel from the 1980s. It was immediately an incredibly polarizing film, with some deeming it a brilliant, ahead-of-its-time adaptation, and others infuriated by what they viewed as a bastardization of the beloved source material. After this decade-plus of superhero films... we look back and talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of "Watchmen."00:00 - Intro / Highway to the Danger Zone01:00 - Of course, Keith had never seen this movie. In this episode the boys look back at Luc Besson's 1997 genre-bending sci-fi action flick "The Fifth Element," which stars Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker, Ian Holm, and Tiny Lister. • Is "Starship Troopers" brilliant or stupid? Or both?

Paul Verhoeven's "Starship Troopers" was released in 1997, and was immediately torn apart by critics. It was called "brainless" and "overly violent" and even was accused of being overtly pro-fascist. They didn't seem to get the joke. But how much of the film IS a joke? How much is meant to be satire, and how much is meant to be taken at face value as a sci-fi space adventure? The Bluff Council is here to ask all these questions. Not answer, but ask. We need you guys to answer!! Someone help us out here!
