Eileen Isabella Ronnie Gibson (16 June 1926 – 18 October 1947),[1][note 1][2] known professionally as Gay Gibson, was a British actress who went missing during a voyage between Cape Town, South Africa, and Southampton, England, United Kingdom, in October 1947. The criminal case that followed was known as the Porthole Murder, as James Camb, the man who would be convicted of killing Gibson, admitted that he had pushed her body out of the porthole in her cabin aboard the MV Durban Castle into the Atlantic Ocean. Camb claimed that the two had engaged in consensual sex and that she had died of an apparent sudden illness; he had then panicked and thrown her body out of the porthole.

The murder of Sister Margaret Ann Pahl took place on Holy Saturday, April 5, 1980.[1] She was found dead at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio, where she worked, and had been strangled and stabbed. The Catholic priest Gerald Robinson, who worked at the same hospital, was questioned soon after the crime, but not charged until new evidence emerged in 2003. He was convicted on May 11, 2006, and died in prison in 2014 after several unsuccessful appeals.

Lori Kay Soares Hacking (December 31, 1976 – July 19, 2004) was a stock broker's assistant for Wells Fargo who was murdered by her husband Mark Douglas Hacking in 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Chevie O'Brien Kehoe (born January 29, 1973) is an American white supremacist murderer.[1][2] Between 1990 and 1997, Kehoe ran a white separatist group which engaged in robberies, burglaries, and arms trafficking,[3][4] as part of a plot to establish a white ethnostate in the Pacific Northwest, known as the Northwest Territorial Imperative.[5][6][7]On January 11, 1996, Kehoe and an accomplice, Daniel Lewis Lee, kidnapped, robbed, tortured, and murdered gun dealer William Mueller, his wife Nancy, and their eight-year-old daughter Sarah. Kehoe was convicted of murder and racketeering, and sentenced to three consecutive life sentences.[8] Daniel Lewis Lee was sentenced to death for the murders, and was executed on July 14, 2020.

Reena Virk (March 10, 1983 – November 14, 1997) was a 14-year-old Canadian girl, who was beaten by a group of teenagers and then murdered by two of those teenagers, in Saanich, British Columbia, Canada. Her status as a victim of bullying prior to her murder attracted substantial media attention in Canada. Eight teenagers were tried and convicted in relation to her death; six involved in the beating received sentences ranging from 60-day conditional sentences to one year in jail, while the two who killed Virk were convicted of second-degree murder and given life sentences. The Globe and Mail commented at the time that her case was "elevated into a national tragedy".[1] A pair of Canadian sociologists have described the case as a watershed moment for a "moral panic" over girl violence by the Canadian public in the late 1990s

Georgia invalidated all previous capital punishment laws in the United States. Gregg participated in the first successful escape from Reidsville State Prison's death row with three other death row inmates in 1980, but was killed later that night during a bar fight.
