A classic mystery featuring legendary detective, Hercule Poirot.The story was first published as a book in the collection Poirot Investigates, 1924, by Bodley Head. The story was adapted for the TV series Agatha Christie’s Poirot in 1990, starring David Suchet, and like many of the other early episodes, included the characters of Hastings, Japp and Miss Lemon, regardless of whether or not they appeared in the original text. In 2004 it was adapted for the Japanese anime series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives, and retitled The Riddle of the Cheap Flat. The show saw Poirot teaming up with Miss Marple's great niece.

In Agatha Christie’s short story, “The Lemesurier Inheritance,” Poirot and Hastings are asked to keep an eye on the heir of a Northumberland estate. The house, thought to be cursed since the middle ages is the locale of several recent near-death accidents for the young boy and rumors of the curse increase. But is it possible the accidents are man-made? This short story originally appeared in the December 19, 1923 issue of The Sketch magazine.
