On the 23rd of December 1996, French socialite Madame Sophie Toscan Du Plantier was found murdered a couple of hundred meters from her holiday home near the coastal town of Schull in West Cork. The investigation later showed that Madame Du Plantier received several lacerations to her body, and received several brutal blows to the head which ultimately resulted in her losing her life. To this day, no one has been convicted of the murder and it has continued to divide opinions among people nationally and internationally. However, one man's name continues to be linked to this incident to the present day. Ian Bailey was convicted of murder in absentia in France in 2010. His extradition has been blocked 3 times by the Irish courts. The fact remains, Ian’s DNA has never been found or linked to the crime scene. All of the current evidence is circumstantial as echoed by the DPP here in Ireland. I spoke to the man at the center of this Murder Mystery to try and learn more about his life, and to hear the story from the side of the accused. Ian Bailey is Behind The Mic.

Welcome back everybody…. after a small two-week hiatus I am back with another podcast. This week's guest is Claudia Savage, a journo in training. Claudia has gathered a handy number of followers on TikTok (16,700 to be exact) over the last few months as she provides regular updates to her followers on all of the main current events and political stories across The Uk and Ireland for the most part. This podcast is an interesting one. Claudia is from Northern Ireland and reveals how much abuse she gets online for sharing stories from the Republic of Ireland and The Uk. People from both countries are seemingly willing to dish hateful comments here way the second they hear her accent. In the episode, she also reveals some of the vile DM’s she has received for creating videos regarding male immigrants being welcomed into communities around Ireland. As has become customary on the latest episodes of Behind The Mic we delve into the left and right divide currently witnessed throughout politics in the western world. Now my reach out to you. Please share the podcast, not only does it help me grow my podcast but it also helps many of these other young Irish creators increase their reach and grow their platforms. You can see it on the usual platforms, Spotify and Youtube. Drop a rating and subscribe people. Welcome back to the world top ranking podcast in no category whatsoever, Behind The Mic with David Cotter. My guest on the show this week is a top-ranking, world-record-holding endurance Athlete from Leitrim. Ricky Wynne has been competing in Ultra Races for 7 years now. He is one of Ireland's finest Ultra Running athletes with regular 1st place finishes at races nationally and even some top 10 finishes in some of the most significant ultra events in Europe. We talk about all things mindset, training, nutrition, recovery, and the motivation behind the triumphant world record attempt on Craogh Patrick in June 2022 in aid of Motor Neuron Disease. This one is a belter…. Just before the episode starts can I ask again for listeners of this podcast to give it a rating on Spotify and subscribe on Youtube? Why does this matter? Because… when I contact guests to come on my podcast I need stone-cold evidence that coming on this podcast is not a waste of their time and ratings are one of the best ways to gauge the listener's relationship with the podcast. So if you are a one-off or regular listener, get that thumb out and smash the 5-star rating like a legend. If you are on youtube subscribe and like the video like a legend. Now time for Episode 29, Completing a world record on Craogh Patrick for Motor Neurones. Hello, and welcome back to Behind the Mic with me your host David Cotter. This week's guest is fellow podcaster and host of Take 2: Debbie Shaw. Debbie moved to Ireland 4 years ago from Malta and from what I have witnessed from listening to podcasts and watching her content online she has integrated seamlessly into Irish culture. The episode touches on topics such as podcasting, and her mental health struggles. Are podcasters the star of their own show? Should men have an opinion on female issues? This podcast highlighted to me just how important it is to enter into conversations that sometimes feel like they are off-limits. While it might feel at times like we should not (I am speaking as a white man here) enter into the hottest topics in the political and cultural landscape, after the last two podcasts I have recorded I realize it may be more necessary than I thought. On Debbie's own podcast, she doesn’t shy away from any issue and she lives by that in her everyday life. She is laser-focused and determined to make her podcast one of the best. I learned a lot from her. We will get to the episode shortly but can I ask something of all of you first? Thank you to everyone for supporting the podcast so far and I appreciate everyone that listens to the podcast. The response to this last week was great so let's try again. I appreciate the help so much. The best way for you to support my podcast so that I can keep attracting guests and having better conversations is by dropping a rating of the podcast on Spotify and subscribing on youtube. I am aware that everyone may not be keen on sharing the podcast on their story on Instagram or other platforms but it certainly helps raise the profile of the show. So a share would be greatly appreciated too if you think of it. So now we are ready to begin episode 27 of Behind the Mic, without further adieu Debbie Shaw. Welcome back to Episode 26 of Behind The Mic with me David Cotter. My guest is Corey Cunnigham this week, known on TikTok and Youtube as PolitiCorey. Online Corey has gained over 7000 followers for his very honest and well-thought-out deconstruction of conspiracy theories and misinformation news stories and ideas. The episode touches on topics that in today's society tether on the edge of being off limits. During this episode, I quiz Corey on where his interest in socio-economic and political issues stems from! Corey outlines the main reason in his opinion why misinformation, conspiracy theories, and radical opinions on political issues have become so mainstream. We touch on the adoption of American issues in Europe and more specifically Ireland, eluding to issues around the controversial school teacher Enoch Burke and the similarity his story apparently shares with American and Canadian examples surrounding Dr. Jordan B Peterson and Bret Weinstein. This leads to a conversation on the lack of role models for young white men in society and we explore whether or not the rise of feminism is detrimental to male mental health and well-being. This conversation could have lasted so much longer but time is finite and we will have more opportunities to record more episodes this year. We will get to the episode shortly but can I ask something of all of you first? Thank you to everyone for supporting the podcast so far and I appreciate everyone that listens to the podcast. This is an action and information-packed episode. We talk about Daves's past, from his younger years and how he always felt slightly different due to his being mixed race, to dealing with his mother's cancer diagnosis during his leaving cert. Fast forward some years he is making a name for himself in fitness, managing one of the biggest gyms in Ireland, starting his own business, training with his body-building idols and mentors, and venturing into a world that was so new so fast. Being a serious bodybuilder comes with requirements, to be the best you have to do what the best do and more. This included taking steroids. Dave begins using steroids to aid his budding career as a bodybuilder, but things go downhill, badly, and fast. After a period of being lost mentally and physically, Dave decided to share his experience not to encourage or discourage but to educate and inform people about his negative experience using steroids. His story has traveled so far that he even came up in conversation on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. Disclaimer- Neither of us is a doctor and we are not in a position to give medical advice, we speak about this topic from a place of curiosity. Our conversation or discussion should not be used to help you decide whether or not to use these substances. Talk to a professional on this topic. I hope you enjoy this episode and it certainly won't be the last time you hear Dave on Behind The Mic. We both felt afterward we could have talked for hours. Without further ado, here we go….

Just recently his mental health blog-"Thoughts Too Big", was nominated for, and won the mental health blog of the year for 2022.
