In this week's episode, Ashley Willcott reviews the case of Robert Durst, a scion of a wealthy New York real estate family, who became notorious for a series of mysterious disappearances and deaths linked to him over several decades. His first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst, vanished in 1982, and while he was suspected, no charges were ever filed. Then, in 2000, his close friend Susan Berman was murdered in her Los Angeles home, shortly before she was scheduled to speak with investigators about Kathleen's disappearance.
The Durst case gained renewed attention with the 2015 HBO documentary "The Jinx," which chronicled his life and alleged crimes. During filming, Durst made several incriminating statements, including a seemingly accidental confession captured on a hot mic: "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." This, combined with new evidence, led to his arrest in 2015 for Berman's murder.
In 2021, after a lengthy trial, Durst was convicted of first-degree murder in Berman's death and sentenced to life in prison. He died shortly after, while also under indictment for the murder of his first wife. His death brought a close to a decades-long saga that had captivated the public and raised questions about wealth, privilege, and the pursuit of justice.
In this week's breakdown segment, Ashley discusses the case with Philip Dubé.

In this week's episode, Ashley Willcott reviews the the 1970 murder of Nancy Bennallack, a 28-year-old court reporter in Sacramento, California. For over five decades, the case remained unsolved, leaving her family and the community in a state of unresolved grief.
The investigation saw renewed efforts, particularly with advancements in DNA technology. In 2004, a DNA profile was obtained from blood left at the crime scene. However, initial searches in national DNA databases yielded no matches.
Eventually, investigators turned to forensic genetic genealogy. This technique involved using the suspect's DNA profile to identify distant relatives in public genealogical databases, leading to the construction of a family tree. This process ultimately identified Richard John Davis, who had lived in the same apartment complex as Bennallack at the time of her murder. Though Davis had died in 1997, DNA from a family member confirmed his involvement. The case was then closed.
In our breakdown segment, Ashley goes deep with Kasia Earley on the details behind Robert John Davis.

In this week's episode, Ashley Willcott discusses the Chad Daybell case, a companion episode to our earlier episode on Lori Vallow-Daybell.
The Chad Daybell case revolves around the deaths of his first wife, Tammy Daybell, and the two children of his new wife, Lori Vallow Daybell. Chad and Lori were involved in a doomsday-focused religious group and believed in apocalyptic prophecies and the concept of "zombies" – individuals possessed by evil spirits. Prosecutors argued that they used these beliefs to justify the murders, claiming they were freeing the victims' souls. The case was further complicated by allegations of insurance fraud and financial motives.
After a lengthy trial, Chad Daybell was found guilty of all charges, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and insurance fraud. Lori Vallow Daybell was also found guilty in a separate trial for her role in the murders. The case garnered significant attention due to its bizarre details, the couple's extreme beliefs, and the tragic deaths of the children involved.

The case was heavily publicized due to the bizarre circumstances surrounding the children's disappearances and the couple's doomsday cult beliefs.
