  • Episode 023 | Dr. Oxana Ormonova is a board-certified Internal Medicine Physician, Clairvoyant, Spiritual Healer, and Intuitive Life Coach gifted with insight and perception to facilitate deep transformation and healing on spiritual, emotional, and mental levels.
From a very young age, Oxana realized she was different – being able to see and feel things no one else could. As a physician, this talent was helpful to others, but painful for herself, as Oxana could feel all the pain of her patients and colleagues.

Through much trial and error, she found a way to embody her intuitive gifts and feel great in her body, and it’s these secrets she’s now passionate about sharing with others.
Oxana’s greatest love (other than diving into the Pacific with her marine family) is empowering people by helping them heal themselves on all levels – physical, emotional, and spiritual.

She works with people all over the globe, from physicians, to business executives, to coaches and entrepreneurs. She also teaches others how to develop their intuition and maintain energetic boundaries.

  • Episode 022 | Dr. Meena Julapalli is triple board-certified in pediatrics, dermatology, and pediatric dermatology.

After 7 years in academics as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the University of Texas - Austin and the University of Colorado, she opened her own direct care pediatric dermatology practice, Bluebird Dermatology, in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Julapalli is passionate about providing comprehensive, integrative, and personalized care that acknowledges and supports not just the physical aspects of her patients' skin conditions but also their unique social and emotional needs. She believes that by fostering sacred relationships of love, trust, and mutual respect and creating an environment and community whereby children and families affected by skin disease feel seen, heard, understood, valued, and supported, they are empowered, transformed, and healed in profound and life-changing ways.

Dr. Julapalli has been blessed to facilitate and witness these transformations through her involvement with support groups and camp programs throughout the country, including the American Academy of Dermatology-sponsored Camp Discovery, Paul Newman's SeriousFun Network, and the American Camp Association, as well as through local workshops and healing circles that she leads.

She is the founder of The Joyful Path, whose mission is to help children build the intuition of how to nourish their mind, body, and soul so that they may live, love, and serve generously with an open heart, intention, and purpose.
In addition to her philanthropic pursuits in her local and national communities, Dr. Julapalli is dedicated to serving children abroad. She has volunteered her time and expertise at a pediatric HIV/AIDS clinic in Lesotho, Africa, at orphanages and schools in Nicaragua, with children and adults with albinism in Tanzania, and most recently with people in impoverished villages in northern Thailand.
Dr. Julapalli's adventures also include being a children's book author, wisdom coach and yoga instructor for kids, Reiki master, world explorer (she has been to all 7 continents, all 50 states), avid hiker, meditator, sound healer/instrumentalist, and amateur swing dancer!

She's also simply one of the most truly joyful and generous people I've ever met. I'm honored and grateful to call her a friend and colleague.

  • Episode 018 | Building a successful direct care dermatology practice may not be rocket science, but even if it was, Dr. Miguel Villacorta would still crush it.

He's one of my heroes in direct care dermatology, and I can't wait for you to learn from him.

Dr. Villacorta is a board-certified dermatologist, the visionary founder of Galt Dermatology & Concierge Medicine, and an advocate for transformative healthcare. He holds a degree in Osteopathic Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health, which underpin his mission to revolutionize the patient experience through compassionate, high-quality care. His innovative approach led to the establishment of South Florida’s first direct care dermatology service and the pioneering of a joint direct primary care and dermatology clinic.
Before embarking on his medical journey, Dr. Villacorta's eclectic career spanned from engineering to entrepreneurship. He assisted in the launch of space shuttle missions 104 and 105 as an electrical engineer at NASA and honed his industrial engineering skills at UPS. As the director of business development for JET Group, Inc., his strategic insights propelled the company to twice rank in the INC5000.
Dr. Villacorta's patient-first approach is driven by a commitment to transform the healthcare experience. He aims to provide high-quality, individualized care, upholding the highest standards of respect and dignity for patients and healthcare providers alike. Influenced by his summers in rural Spain, he brings a sense of community and personal touch to his practice.
Away from work, Dr. Villacorta values family time with his wife and children and engages in cooking, travel, and tennis, activities that complement his dedication to a balanced lifestyle.

  • Episode 014 | I'm excited to bring you something a bit different for which full credit goes to the wonderful and generous Janelle Ball, founder & CEO at BC Educators, LLC.

My conversation with Janelle originally appeared on her excellent podcast, That's Derm Good!, so that's why it sounds different than a typical episode of The Direct Care Derm. If you enjoy it, consider checking out some other episodes of her show.

Janelle and her team have made patient access their priority, which is a big job. If you're not a doctor and have never heard of a biologic coordinator, I'm not surprised.

These individuals and teams play a critical but often unsung role in navigating the complex, costly, and opaque road from the moment a physician in the U.S. prescribes a biologic medication to the moment the patient finally receives the first dose.

While our conversation is about my approach to holistic care within dermatology rather than the specific role of the biologic coordinator, it's important to remember the role biologic coordinators play so we can recognize and properly value the work they do.

    Enjoy!

πŸ”₯ Balancing family life and entrepreneurship
    πŸ”₯ Servant Leadership
Kathleen M. Brown, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist who started a solo direct pay practice in 2011.

Over 13 years in a group practice prior to that, arrangements with third party payers became more complex and difficult, making it almost impossible to continue practicing medicine as she saw fit. Dr. Brown wanted more control over the way she practiced medicine, and felt that physicians should not allow billing and diagnosis codes to affect or control the practice of medicine, and also that fees should be predictable and reasonable. Because of all this, in 2011 she opened her own solo direct pay dermatology practice, Oregon Coast Dermatology. It operated free from third-party payers such as insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid. For almost eight years, Dr. Brown worked directly for her patients by getting rid of the middlemen and posting prices in public, based on time spent with the patient.

In 2019 she closed her practice in order to move with her husband to their property in Montana. They chose to have more time for life outside of medicine, including their time for family and outdoor recreation. She has continued to help other physicians succeed in third-party-free practices. She has also kept up with her specialty of dermatology and is ready to open a part-time mobile direct pay dermatology practice. She is a director on the board of the Frontier Institute, and stays involved with the Free Market Medical Association.
