Every Wednesday, we have released a new Episode talking about current events, the big headlines, justice & activism, mainstream conversations, common struggles and even fresh perspectives on things like politics, mental & physical health, the Church, justice and more.
In the final Episode of Season 3, Host Hannah Gronowski Barnett takes us back through the past 3 months to reflect on the interviews we have heard and the tensions points we have entered into. Together, we will pause to process through the valuable lessons we have learned.
We will see you here later this year for Season 4 when we will continue to dive into current events, inspiration, real conversations on hard issues, expert interviews and the practical tools you need to navigate life as a young leader in a divided world. -
Over the last two years, our world has felt overwhelming. A global pandemic, police brutality, a divisive election, vaccine mandates, school shootings, and more. The last two years have left many of us feeling more stressed, anxious and depressed than ever before.
In Season #3 of the Generation Distinct, we have entered straight into divisive issues- believing we can discuss difficult issues in a way that leads us into deeper unity.
But, the stress & overwhelm of this season has still taken a toll on our minds, souls & bodies. To finish this season, we are going to address the way the last two years have affected our health and discover how we can move forward into the rest of this season with greater wholeness.
Joining us in this conversation, we have Director of the Health Performance Institute, Cory Leman.

It has been just a handful of years since the Silence Breakers were named the Person of the Year by Time Magazine and #Metoo became a familiar hashtag. Then, it spread to #ChurchToo and our eyes continued to open to the reality of Power Abuse happening both in our world And…even sometimes in our Churches.
We have been so hurt by the abusive power in our world, our generation struggles not to become cynical towards every leader, every politician, every pastor, every person in a position of power.
But does power always have to lead to the abuse of power?
To join us in our conversation today, we have Spiritual Leader, Justice Advocate, Communicator & Peacemaker Danielle Strickland. Danielle’s aggressive compassion has served people firsthand in countries all over the world. From establishing justice departments and church plants, to launching global anti-trafficking initiatives, to creating new initiatives to mobilize people towards transformational living.

On November 30, 15 year old Ethan Crumbley shot and killed 4 teenagers at his school right outside of Detroit, Michigan. . And as of this week, Oxford High School still isn’t ready to reopen. But the superintendent announced a tentative plan early this month to share the local middle school for two weeks.
The high school could reopen for classes during the week of Jan. 24 after families are given an opportunity to visit, Throne said.
For every shooting that happens, an entire community is changed forever. Today, we are talking with local Trauma Informed Coach & Local Pastor Drew Daniels to help us understand how a community is affected after a school shooting and how we as young leaders can respond.

On November 3rd, The Generation Distinct Podcast came back for Season 3: Tension Points - A weekly conversation about what is really happening in our world.
-
2020 was not only a year marked by a Global pandemic, racial tension and rising levels of anxiety...those of us in America also lived through a highly divisive election season.
Republicans and Democrats alike were tearing each other down in the name of democracy. Arguments on social media blazed and hateful memes were simply the norm. Respect, honor and general kindness seemed to be forgotten morals as everyone felt the right to make fun of the “other side” and even de-humanize whoever didn’t agree with them. Families shared tense conversations over meals, friends parted ways based on who they voted for and social media seemed to convince everyone that THEY were on the right side.
And here we are a year later with very little progress in the area of unity across political party lines, which causes us to wonder...Is that kind of unity even possible in our world today?

On August 30th of this year, The U.S. military departed the country of Afghanistan, ending a 20-year occupation and leaving Afghanistan in the Taliban’s hands.
Many of us Americans were very aware of what was happening as we received daily updates on our major news channels. Yet, here we are just a few months later and probably many of us are wondering...now what? What happened to the thousands of Afghan Refugees coming into the US and how can we be a part of their welcome here?
To educate us on how we as young leaders can respond is the Vice President of Advocacy and Policy at World Relief, Jenny Yang.

Over the last 30 years, Native Americans and other groups have protested the celebration of Columbus arriving in America, a historical moment that actually sparked the colonization of the Americas, the start of the transatlantic slave trade and the deaths of millions from European settlers bringing a host of infectious diseases that decimated indigenous populations and the Warfare between Native Americans and European colonists
With both Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Day coming up this week, we have to ask the question... Should we celebrate holidays that marked a horrific time in Native American History? And how do we bring more awareness to Native American Heritage Day?

While long-standing tensions between law enforcement and communities of color persist across the country, Black officers in the Chicago Police Department have formed a unique professional organization called the Black Public Safety Alliance to lend perspective to an often divisive message coming from the city’s largest police union and their president.
These innovative and devoted Officers are offering their voices and their experiences, which they believe is pivotal to the national conversation on law enforcement.
And to educate us on where we are at as a country in regards to the conflict on policing issues, we have the President of the Black Public Safety Alliance himself, Sgt Jermaine Harris here with us today.

It’s no secret that our culture is big on taking sides right now. Democrat or Republican. Masks or no masks. Defund the police or increase policing efforts. The list goes on. And instead of our conversations around these issues making us better, they are actually tearing us apart.

Dr. Whitaker is an Associate Lecturer at University of Wisconsin Green Bay and he recently completed his PhD at Marquette University on, “The Epistemology of Disagreement.” He has taught courses in introductory philosophy, philosophical anthropology, ethics, epistemology, philosophy of mind, and logic. -
