We discuss male tendencies that hold women back with Jeremy Stockdale, Owner of Ylead, gender ally, and originator of the "Smash the Patriarchy" Wednesday posts on LinkedIn. We discuss the various Man- terms and tendencies that Men have adopted due to societal pressures. We learn why they affect women in a negative way in the workplace, but also in family and other relationships. It's so refreshing to hear a man acknowledge these inequitable male tendencies. And his British accent doesn't hurt either! ;)

In this episode of The HisTerical Society Feminist Podcast, Kistein Monkhouse of Patient Orator walks us through the various reasons maternal mortality is such a crisis in the United States. We discuss issues with implicit bias in the healthcare system and how that can negatively affect health outcomes for women, especially people of color and low income. Kistein reminds us that since we all know our bodies better than anyone, we may need to push back on health care professionals if we feel we aren't being heard.
Her company, Patient Orator is working to facilitate better communication between patients and their doctor. For more information on Patient Orator: https://patientorator.com/

Mifepristone and Misoprostol are the two medications used for self-managed, also known as medical abortion. Nancy Cárdenas Peña, Campaign Director of Abortion On Our Own Terms, joins in a discussion on self-managed abortion, how effective it is, and the myths and disinformation that the anti-abortion side perpetuates. We set the record straight here and provide hope and resources that can help those in need.
Nancy also highlights the additional barriers that those from restrictive states must overcome to get healthcare in areas like the Rio Grande Valley along the border of Texas. But abortion pills are an excellent option, and are still currently available in the United States.. for now... The Supreme Court will weigh in on the case to remove one of the pills from the market later this year.

In the second half of our conversation, Dr. Taylor and I delve deeper into how racism and societal oppression affects abortion access and mistrust by healthcare professionals in general. We also discuss religious objections to abortion and how to overcome guilt and feel comfortable with one's choices. We end with lots of ways each of us can take action today to support the Reproductive Justice movement. One of which is getting Dr. Taylor's book, Undue Burden: https://bookshop.org/a/95264/9781642256598

Dr. DeShawn Taylor joins the podcast to discuss her book Undue Burden: A Black, Woman Physician on Being Christian and Pro-Abortion in the Reproductive Justice Movement. In this first half of our conversation, Dr. DeShawn helps us deconstruct some of the societal myths that we have been burdened with over time with facts as well as her experience providing abortion care over the years.
We discuss how pro-choice rhetoric does not advance our needs, but rather perpetuates the stigma that surrounds abortion that we have been spoon-fed by white christian patriarchy. She explains the Reproductive Justice Movement and how it provides a more comprehensive framework for a healthy society.
Listen as she takes ME through her deconstruction process with my OWN internalized narrative about my OWN abortion. It's like a mini-therapy session.. she really helped me release some of my own shame that I didn't even realize was bottled up!
