The assassination of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral on 29 December 1170 changed the course of history. Becket was one of the most powerful figures of his time, serving as royal Chancellor and later as Archbishop of Canterbury. Initially a close friend of King Henry II, the two men became engaged in a bitter dispute that culminated in Becket’s shocking murder by knights with close ties to the king.

Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 comedy-drama film written and directed by Taika Waititi, adapted from Christine Leunens's 2008 book Caging Skies. Roman Griffin Davis portrays the title character, Johannes "Jojo" Betzler, a ten-year-old Hitler Youth member who finds out that his mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. He must then question his beliefs while dealing with the intervention of his imaginary friend (Waititi), a fanciful version of Adolf Hitler with a comedic stance on the politics of the war. The film also stars Sam Rockwell, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant and Alfie Allen.

The Windrush Generation includes anyone who immigrated to Britain from the Caribbean between 1948-1973. After WWII, large parts of Britain were in desperate need of rebuilding, so the UK actively invited immigration from Commonwealth nations.

This is part 2 of a 2 part episode.
Stalin’s life was incredible!! good, bad and at many times ugly.
From a poor kid to the leader of the USSR.
During the quarter of a century preceding his death, the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin probably exercised greater political power than any other figure in history. Stalin industrialised the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, forcibly collectivised its agriculture, consolidated his position by intensive police terror, helped to defeat Germany in 1941–45, and extended Soviet controls to include a belt of eastern European states.

Here at the History Emporium & Pals we believe in equality.
It is against the law to discriminate against someone because of:
agedisabilitygender reassignmentmarriage and civil partnershippregnancy and maternityracereligion or beliefsexsexual orientationThe shocking murder of Sarah Everard has highlighted an injustice that we know is faced by many women across the world:
Still paid less and often not valued in our society or dismissed by the out of touch government and systems we have in place in Britain.
You can get longer in prison for defacing a statue than if you assault a woman.
At the history emporium we stand in solidarity of those who gathered at the vigil in south London in memory of Sarah. We also support the right to protest.
Most of all we send our love to the family and friends of Sarah. She was just walking home.
We also continue to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaign.

The Essex whaling disaster. The real life Moby Dick tale.
Today’s lesson from our history teacher Patrick.
The inspiration for Moby Dick:
Essex was an American whaler from Nantucket, Massachusetts, which was launched in 1799. In 1820, while at sea in the southern Pacific Ocean under the command of Captain George Pollard Jr., she was attacked and sunk by a sperm whale.

-Listener caution is advised.
This episode is called “Lancaster Castle” however we cover the castle, meeting the queen by accident, decent milky coffee, witch trials, execution, inappropriate films for kids, dead bodies under floors, drowning in toilets,
This is like listening in on a private phone conversation and I’m kinda into it. It’s a long one. Buckle up!

The Death Of Stalin.
Join Chris, Jackson and I for this 3-way film review.
“When tyrannical dictator Joseph Stalin dies in 1953, his parasitic cronies square off in a frantic power struggle to become the next Soviet leader, As they bumble, brawl and back-stab their way to the top, the question remains -just who is running the government?”
NOTE: I say Director instead Dictator. = Error.
