this is an annual ritual for us. tanya bami series head netflix india and me to sit down at the beginning of a calendar year after netflix india has announced its slate for whats coming up and do a deep dive. shes most kicked about the comedy genre and in all honesty netflix doesnt get enough kudos for its work in the genre. `mamla legal hai` was a runaway hit and tanya announces a brand new season & the fact that 192 countries cant get enough of `the great indian kapil show` is there for all of us to see. from bollywood to cricket theyve got all the bumper guests and the return of sunil grover. im excited by the prospect of sanjay leela bhansali as well as yashraj films and excel entertainment bringing their vision to netflix. `dabba cartel` & `ic 814 the kandahar hijack` seem like shows i will binge into. tanyas very clear that old favourites like `kota factory`, `mismatched` and `fabulous lives` had to come back with fresh seasons - such was the clamour amongst subscribers / members. ive know tanya professionally since her wizcraft days and personally too because both her kids and both my kids were in the same school - our younger ones in the same class, total besties. and ive known her to always be gracious with her time and taking feedback from me and a host of other journalists. she has her antennae up and her ears to the ground which is what makes her and that other powerhouse of a lady at Netflix India, Monika Shergill so special. the service / platform is lucky to have them and i continue to enjoy every minute spent picking their brain or chatting with them. happy listening!

Gaurav Banerjee has always impressed me with his eloquence at press conferences & trailer launches. considering the terrific year that disney plus hotstar have had in terms of content i simply had to get him in for an interview. he is passionate about animation as.a category and a big believer in creating a robust multilingual content catalog. the respect he has for cinema and series' emanating out of the southern states is also something i found very heartening. unscripted content like `big boss` & `koffee with karan` plus thrilling original series like `special ops` & `lootere` get him going and his team and him have made it the cornerstones of their sucess story. i loved that he gave some time to sport - in particular football & this years t20 world cup in the US plus the `Marvel` catalogue and international titles and series that gen z is tripping on. gauravs nostalgia at having studied radio as part of his post graduate film and communications course was apparent the moment he walked into studio and soaked in the ambience! happy listening.

my wife swears by rujuta diwekar & in our house the reverence that rujutas food thery, concepts & practicies have been taught to us for years via aanchal (my wife) so even though i had never met rujuta i felt i knew her for a decade atleast! even then there was so much to talk about. im constantly encouraging people to deep dive into the wonderful world of pure audio and im thrilled when i meet another new adopter. rujutas podcast on audible is called `secrets of good health` season 2. and in it she debunks food myths and clears misconceptions. i asked her about advocating our grandmothers cooking & recipes, regular eating out at restaurants in the modern era becoming a social activity, intermittent fasting fad or truth?, her farming and organic food growing and eating program in rural maharashtra in sonave and so much more and she had clear answers for all - she identifies problems and then clearly goes about solving them. shes definitely and without a doubt the sharpest mind in nutrition today and definitely one of the most knowledgeable. happy listening to this intervew!

what an enjoyable coming of age movie that put a smile on all our faces. some genz issues & some deep rooted abuse issues also dealt with in a healthy positive manner & a trio who we couldnt have imagined in a moive together till producers & co writers zoya akhtar and reema kagti made it happen! zoyas directors assistant from the epic `gully boy` arjun varain singh directs this one and im so happy that excel (farhan akhtar & ritesh sidhwanis film production company) & tiger baby ( reema & zoyas production house ) are constantly believing in new talent & giving them serious big opportunities. the performances by sid, ananya and adarsh are top notch. anya singh as the influencer & kalki as the photographer are terrific. go watch it on netflix and tell me what u think of my interview with this bunch here.

the series doesnt have any major names but the fact that they would take cyber crime expert amit dubeys book & turn it into a potent force i felt deserved a careful & close looksee. parmeet sethi directs `hack crimes online` on amogh dusads platform amazon mini tv & it is produced by shital bhatia from friday filmworks & acted in, with great proficiency by vipul gupta. i had to get the four of them together to have this detailed chat. their aim apart from entertain is to clearly give the common man red flags on how people are being looted via social media, the banking sector & nearly every online platform that people are gravitating towards. the hacker is everywhere waiting to prey on our fear, our ignorance & our inherent greed. the idea is to be informed & aware & this show & indeed this interview goes a long way in trying to effect change. listen to this podcast & watch the series & pls do tell me what u think.

Laura Karpman entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an animation series that she scored called `what if?` , then she went onto do music for the critically acclaimed `miss marvel` last year & now here comes the coupe de resistance... shes music composer for this years magnum opus theatrical release `the marvels`. laura understands the sanctity of indian classical music as we chat about those elements she used in `miss marvel`, and she is acutely aware that `the marvels` apart from having three leading superhero ladies is directed by her `soul sista` nia dacosta. the 1st african american woman and only the fourth woman ever to direct a marvel movie! i love that laura is a fierce champion for inclusion in Hollywood & i tell her so in this podcast. After founding the `Alliance for Women Film Composers`, she became the first woman governor in the music branch of the `Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences`.but like karpman says.. theres been progress, but theres still so much to be done. happy listening!

this is the epitome of laid back and chill...this interview. with no impending release to promote it just ended up being about the gorgeous tara sutarias life & times. her homage to tushna dallas her late ballet teacher & taras own advice to fearful parents, encouraging them to get their kids to learn ballet. her tryst with kathak to discover her desi side. her bond with her twin sister who now runs a ballet school herself & how the sutarias would run off the london during the summer to do workshops, courses and more at the `Royal Academy Of Dance`. the idea is for the sutaria girls now to holiday in italy together & discover places like Amalfi Coast. was it, is it ever uncomfortable ? being constantly asked about her love life ... in interviews, at press conferences & even at airports!? and tara has just the most lovely sorted answer to that question. watch on to know more about this smouldering `scorpio who self reflects` (in taras own words) and yes i for one wish her luck in starting that jazz bar that serves the most divine food & also has a jazz band playing every evening (including her on vocals atleast once a week! )

neeraj pandey has an entire industry full of actors and i suspect that includes a fair share of actors from abroad too - who are ever willing to work with him. his grasp of the action, thriller drama is unprecedented in the modern era. as anupam kher and me joked - all the actors walk with a lilt, a certain brisk pace in a neeraj pandey film. his protegie bhav dhulia who directed the netflix series `khakee` directs this one but neerajs watchful eye as creator & showrunner is stamped all over `the freelancer` the series on disney plus hotstar. mohit raina is terrific as a wasted cop turned mercenary who has a renewed mission in life. kashmira pardeshi is the surprise as the girl who is house imprisoned in syria by the family thats shes married into. anupam kher is so at ease as a regular collaborator in a pandey franchise that hes effortless as analyst khan. i loved the furious pace of it and if international terror and espionage and action thrillers is ur thing this is manna from heaven for you. exotic mediterranean and european locales thrown in for equal measure and some dynamic, slick international quality action choreography. bravo neeraj and team. now enjoy my indepth interview with mohit, neeraj and mr kher!

raell padamsee is an old friend of mine but despite having so many common friends this is the first time i was meeting lushin dube. momentous occasion. raells create foundation turns 20. underprivelaged kids are put through language skills, training, theatrical productions, life skills training. they empower girls from orphanages & get the hearing & sight impaired to do dance performances & rope & pole malkhamb. to celebrate `create` lushin is to put up two plays at the roual opera house. `untitled` & `bitter chocolate`- shes the ONLY actor onstage playing over 12 parts in each play! wow.
raells `ace` believes in starting them young so an art tour & interpret through art workshop at the NGMA for 7 to 15 year olds & for 16 year olds & above. and finally `ace`s `act on stage` workshops are leading to perfomances of aladdin & harry potter on stage by the young ones. enjoy this vibrant interview with two women who were born to be shapeshifters for our generation in their chosen fields!

a working single moms world turns upside down when her inquisitive son demands a new papa on a 30 day `trial period`. now just think of that premise! wow. and when u have the eternally cute genelia playing the young single mum u know shes gonna keep it real and fun. i love that genelia tells me she ONLY wants to play mothers on screen now cuz she feels most comfortable in the position..... being a mother of two in real life. aleya sen is an ad film maker of repute with chrome pictures & her 1st feature as director was dil junglee post which she produced the superhit Badhai Ho. lovely banter this - we traverse from genelias scooter driving skills & manavs early days in mumbai when he came from MP to make a career for himself to the brilliant gajaraj rao who has a crucial role in this series, to aleya herself who has straddled motherhood and work which made her want to tell this story. trial period is streaming on the jiocinema app & is less than 2 hours in length - which is what i call a breezy watch! just like this interview

Kohrra buids the fantastic world of small town punjab where a murder unfolds. The series on Netflix introduces us to many complicated characters. Its a must watch and what a morning I had with actors Barun Sobti and Harleen Sethi talking about their home state & working on this show.
Go watch it. At the heart of it Kohrra is a murder mystery. surprise surprise Rachel Shelley from Aamir Khans Lagaan remember her? - she returns as the mother of a missing Canadian boy. Randeep Jha directs , Gunjit Chopra and Sudip Sharma create
I remember meeting Suvinder Vicky the thespian from the Punjab along with actor Randeep Hooda for the series CAT & thinking what a powerful man with powerful screen presence! he plays Harleen sethi’s father and Barun Sobtis partner in the police force . they’re investigating this gruesome murder in rural punjab. And mr vicky is electric each time he enters the frame!
also its not all blood & gore & the dark side. this is also Punjab the land of five rivers where the relevance of family and land is such that often brothers give up their share of ancestral land out of sheer love. Im sure ull enjoy listening to this podcast. go ahead. just. press. play.

im constantly on the quest for knowledge & when writer director ananya banerjee tells me that there exists a 40 minute horror film called ``moni hara`` which is based on a story by gurudev rabindranath tagore directed by satyajit ray i go woah! this director duo are articulate, intelligent & driven. with gauravv k chawla & ananya banerjee no topic of discussion is passe or taboo & i love that. their horror series ``adhura`` is streaming on amazon prime video. we speak of colonial structures & british era residential /. boarding schools, jumpscares, bgm, sound design, cinematography & child actor shrenik aroras eyes. im also joined in this chat by ishwak singh of pataal lok & rocket boys fame whos subtlety in a spookfest works like a charm. happy listening.

theyve worked on large canvas films like brahmastra & drishyam 2 and also offbeat ott series like jamtara 3 & the class. so much so that their 360 degree creative agency attractively titled `feed the wolf` is now the go to place for cutting edge movie marketing and creation of promos, teasers & trailers. theyve branched out into motion poster design making so its not about simple 30 & 60 seconder edits anymore. i spent an interesting session with mamta bahirvani & siddharth pande & found out that their fascinating allied pursuits & passions perhaps contribute to the finesse with which they execute their main job! happy listening.

mukesh chhabra is a luminary of the casting world. his office is considered a haven for those who have made it & a prospective pilgrimage spot for all those coming into mumbai to make a career in the movies as an actor. lesser known fact , hes also an actor himself, and a very fine one at that. wed been exchanging notes and shoutouts on social media and DMing each other & we finally met in person... like long lost friends! mukeshs investigative journalist / crime reported in kafas on sony liv ... arif... is fashioned in a terrific manner by him. vivan bhathena has a very difficult part. a bollywood superstar who has a dark vile secret. he has built that maturity in him over the years to play the part so nicely. enjoyable chat with these two on the series, the child actors, their own trajectory in the movie business & on their director sahil sangha. happy listening.

the mild mannered, kind sharman joshi has a naughty, sometimes wicked sense of humour! director sahil sangha is so well spoken and listening to him speak is an experience. mona singh is all happiness, positivity & love. they were joined in this interview by two adoloescent / teen actors mikhail & tejasvi. their series kafas on sony liv is genre defining - it asks some hard hard questions of middle class parents & raises issues like paying of hush money, molestation of young boys as opposed to girls, & the ills of social media chatter groups which middle school kids are exposed to. i thoroughly enjoyed the series as well as this chat.

there are so many myths & so called taboos floating around lupus & systematic lupus erythematosus that i had to get the experts and the patients and the support group involved. dr aneesa kapadia has been working with patients for a while now & has had some remarkable breakthroughs. karishma khemlani is very active in the lupus support group in mumbai called `life with lupus mumbai`. miloni kulkarni is in remission & is herself a mental health expert. all three believe that patients & care givers both shall benefit from joining support groups. dr aneesa gives us the medication & line of treatment that does seem to be working in controlling lupus. in between all the entertainment & the infotainment & sport its important for me as a podcast host & creator to shine the light on science & medicine & cure & support groups. have a good listen!

Film maker nagesh kukunoor... look at his filmography - hyderabad blues, Rockford , iqbal, dor, mod, dhanak! Sameer Nair ceo of applause entertainment look at the stuff he’s produced... scam 1992, avrodh, hostages, rudra, mind the Malhotras, tanaav, criminal justice , the office, Your honor. these two titans and their coming together has resulted in three terrific seasons of the political drama `city of dreams` on disney plus Hotstar . And as the latest season continues steaming successfully here’s a fab interview with sameer and nagesh. the three of us share an easy camaraderie and like i mention at the end.... get a tamil, a malayali and a telugu person in a room together and its difficult to get them to shut up! the series itself is epic & the respect & warmth these two men have for each other is so obvious. good for us cinegoers cuz their collaborations will lead to more and more A grade content. city of dreams season 3 itself is epic, the best in the franchise. the resort politics, father daughter relationships, the chief minister in waiting, the broken cop ... have all been etched so beautifully by the writers rohit banawlikar & nagesh himself. throw actors of the calibre of priya bapat, atul kulkarni, sachin pilgaonkar & eijaz khan in the mix and the results are there for all of us to see and enjoy. nagesh says candidly that he can discuss nuances of film making and then get onto having leisurely dinners with sameer only because he has elahe hiptoola co producing the show taking care of all the finer nuances and detailing of running a full scale production, like the three seasons of city of dreams are. well done elahe, team applause, nagesh, sameer... thanks for getting together and creating magic.
