As working parents with kids, work, and a life to take care of, there's "always something". What is a "normal" week anyway? It's probably one where everything went according to plan. But is that really realistic to expect? I would argue that "abnormal" weeks are the norm and the sooner we come to expect that, the easier it is to be flexible when plans change. In this episode, I'm sharing personal anecdotes and client stories to highlight the importance of flexibility, lowering expectations, and celebrating small wins to manage the unpredictable weeks, plus the phrase that I use instead of "it is what it is."

It's not a vacation, it's "taking the show on the road". There's so much that goes into preparing for and actually executing on travel once you have kids. And particularly for working moms, who are navigating work responsibilities up to and even sometimes throughout travel, it's a lot. In this episode, I'm offering practical tips to help make travel a little less stressful and a little more enjoyable, including ways that you can share the mental load of everything that goes into making a trip a reality. And yes, a lot of it does come down to your expectations, but we're talking about that too! So many books and articles have been written about what successful people do to start their day. If we're not waking up early to workout, meditate, and get a jump start on our day, what are even doing? But as busy, working parents, with interrupted sleep and irregular wake-up times, it can be so hard to be consistent with morning routines, let alone to find time to drink a cup of coffee in peace. In this episode, I'm challenging the idea of a morning routine and offering up a new approach to mornings as a busy, working parent. An approach that takes into consideration the responsibilities and lack of sleep that parents, especially parents of young kids, are facing. You don't have to give up the idea entirely, but you I would encourage you to embrace some flexibility and reduce the pressure to do it all. You can still have a successful morning, it just might look a little different than the ones we read about.

Is it possible to plan for the unexpected? When kids have to stay home sick or a work emergency pops up and you have to throw your plan out the window, what is even the point? Why create a plan if circumstances mean you can't follow it? In this episode, I want to challenge you to see the value of your plan even when nothing goes according to plan. It gives you the information you need to be able to find a solution to whatever has popped up. It helps you see what is actually important and what is not.
And while it may not be possible to see into the future and plan for the unexpected, there are strategies you can use to make things easier when the unexpected pops up. We all know what decision fatigue is and how we should create routines, habits, and even uniforms to reduce the number of decisions we have to make. But the other piece of decision fatigue that's not talked about as much is indecision - delaying or prolonging a decision because we tell ourselves we need more time or more information. Every unmade decision is like an open loop in your brain costing you time and energy just like a nail in your tire that is slowly leaking air while you drive. The faster you can make your decision, the less air you'll leak. Learning how to recognize indecision and having strategies to help you make faster, more confident decisions will help save you so much time, energy, and mental space. But the key is knowing which decisions to make quickly, and which decisions to take your time with.
