On Sunday, April 27, 1913 just a little after 3 a.m., an African American night watchman named Newt Lee was making his rounds. After feeling a call to nature, he went into the basement to use the negro restroom. Keep in mind that during this time, Negroes and whites had separate restrooms and drinking fountains. It was a time when segregation and racism were considered normal.
Lee would find the deceased body of a 13-year-old teenager named Mary Phagan. Someone had assaulted, robbed and killed the young girl. This case would become one of the most sensational cases in the history of Atlanta. It involved anti-semitism, violence, vigilante justice, and a horrific ending for the alleged killer. Today the case is still discussed and it's believed that an innocent man paid the ultimate price for a crime he likely didn't commit.

Most people know all about the Amber Alert. Whenever a child is abducted, there is an alert system that appears on our phones and outdoor road signs. It is responsible for saving hundreds of children. The system was legally enacted by President George W. Bush when he signed the 2003 Protect Act. The alert is named after a murdered 9-year-old girl named Amber Hagerman.
In 1996, Amber Hagerman rode her bike in an abandoned parking lot. A witness saw a man in a black truck abduct her. Four days later, Amber's nude body was found in a creek. Her killer had sexually assaulted and tortured her for two days before cutting her throat and dumping her body in a creek.
Today, her murder remains unsolved, but Arlington, Texas police continue trying to find her killer. Since their is no biological evidence, the police are hoping someone will come forward with information that could break this case.

Child sex trafficking is a billion dollar business. The only other illegal activity that earns more is illegal drug sales. Every year children are taken and forced into having sex with adults for money. Even surprising is that some of the men who have been caught engaging in sex with these minors are policemen, judges, doctors, and even fireman. Social class and financial status are irrelevant when it comes to child trafficking. For all you know, a family member or friend could be involved. It's a crime that usually stays in the darkness until it's forced into the light.
In this week's episode, I spoke to "Jane," a woman who was trafficked by her own mother from the age of 3 until she was 17. Her mother used to bring men to their home and allow them to rape her daughter for money, food, jewelry, or money to pay bills. Oddly enough, Jane always loved her mother and uses her faith in God to cope with her painful childhood memories.

In the conclusion of this story, I interviewed Tyleigh who lived on a property in Virginia once occupied by slaves. Her story was told on an episode of The Dead Files. She describes the illnesses she has suffered from living in her former home, apparitions, electrical problems, and an unexplained evil that seems impossible to remove. The land is cursed and will likely remain a place where the dead still roam. Becky is a military veteran, nurse and medium. Since childhood, she has seen demons, ghosts and other supernatural entities. She said that the dead still roam when they have unfinished business. But what is this business? It's anyone's guess. She shares the story of a hospital built over a Civil War battlefield. Before a patient dies, a whistling general always stops by for a visit. And then she discusses the ghost of her long dead brother who refuses to move on. This is Becky's story. You won't want to miss it.

This week's episode is about a mother named Kellie who moved into an old Georgia farmhouse. When people move into a new home, they expect peace and tranquility. Unfortunately, Kellie would experience an encounter with the dreaded shadow man. She described the entity as solid black and large. She also experienced being grabbed by a ghostly hand, strange voices, witnessing an apparition and many other unexplained abnormalities. Her story about what's unseen and seen is fascinating.

As a 15 year old teenager, Justine lived in a haunted house. She believes it to be a place where old cowboys still visit to dance, drink, sit at the bar, and find a nice lady of the evening to keep him warm. While there, she immediately knew the house was evil and she had to leave. She witnessed a spirit toss her younger sister from a balcony and breaking her arm. Even one of the family dog's refused to enter the house. What entity without hands continuously touched family members and opened doors? Justine heard the shuffling of cowboy boots, a fiddler playing a song, dancing and talking from unseen spirits of the dead.

Do you believe that some people can predict their future? Back in 1987, a teenager had premonitions that she would never live long enough to become an adult and she never wavered from the idea. She even cried to her mom saying she didn’t want to grow up because she knew it would never happen. Unfortunately, a serial killer would have her in his sights and she wouldn't live long enough to become an adult. To read my columns, please visit www.Clermontsun.com or my website at www.themarcabe.com. Dara didn't believe in God and never considered the consequences of her actions. This all changed after she had a near death experience and met the infamous shadow man who stood vigilant at her bedside. The faceless entity waited to take her to a dark place filled with sorrow and depravity. Fortunately, God would step in and allow her a second chance to make things right in her life. Upon recovering from her near death experience, she became baptized and converted to Christianity. She shared her story with me. According to her, we all must face judgment for our actions while on Earth. The general consensus is that after you die, your spirit moves on to Heaven, a place supposedly reserved for people who lived a good life and treated others with love and respect. So what happens to those who are greeted with darkness instead of a warm light after they die? find out about one woman's journey to find peace in her life.

Alexander "Sawney" Bean, his wife and his large family lived in a cave in Scotland for 25 years. No one even knew of their existence because they never went into any nearby towns or villages. This meant no one even knew the Bean clan existed. The Beans had grown into a large family. All the Bean children and grandchildren were born from incestuous relations.
The Beans raised their offspring without any civility or humanity. They were more like wild animals than human beings. By this time you may be asking yourself an obvious question. If they away from civilization and in a cave, how did they get by? The answer was disturbing.

This week I have two great ghost stories that date back to the 1800s. The first one involves Philip and Fanny Hartman. They were a happily married couple until Fanny became ill and died. Her dying words to Philip were that he never find love with another woman. If he did, she would return from the grave for him. My second story involves a family who moved into a New Jersey haunted house. They lived there for a year until a ghost forced them to leave. In this episode, I profile three true stories that involve murder and the supernatural. These stories were published in newspapers between 1896 through 1905. The first story is about a man named Claudius Smith who was hanged in 1779. Depending on whom you ask, his boots were cursed. The second story is about a big Irishman named Tom Allen who shares his personal experience with a ghostly encounter. My third story is about a man named Joseph Dailey who claimed he owned a haunted gun. To read my columns, please visit www.Clermontsun.com or my website at www.themarcabe.com.
