Her killer, Eltiona Skana, an Albanian refugee suffering from schizophrenia, had stopped taking her medication. As a result, she attacked little Emily with a craft knife, slitting her throat wide open. Poor Emily succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Michigan to discuss a case that's been widely requested for weeks now, and that's the case of Giovanni Jennings. Giovanni was an adorable little boy that lived with his mother, Elaina Jennings, and her new man, Daniel Giacchina. While in the couple's trailer park home, which they shared with Daniel's grandmother, Daniel would confine Giovanni to a corner and would shoot at him with a BB gun. In the end, poor Giovanni, known as Chulo, met his fate after Daniel stapled the little boy to the wall of the corner.

Phoenix was murdered by her mother, Samantha Kematch, and her stepfather, Karl "Wes" McKay, despite CPS receiving 13 complaints about the little girl being abused, starved, and neglected. Her death lead to what was known as the "Inquiry into the Circumstances Surrounding the Death of Phoenix Sinclair." It was one of the largest public inquiries ever held in Manitoba, examining the glaring holes in the child welfare system.

We've been working on this case for the better part of two years, and it's one that's extremely close to our hearts due to it's proximity to us. As I'm sure you know by now, we try our very best to present our cases as neutrally as possible - or at the very least, as neutrally as the readily available information will allow. This case is very difficult for us due to the fact that the police in charge of case botched it all ways possible. This included destroying DNA evidence, lying in court, altering documents, ignoring two very likely suspects, and railroading a local farmer on circumstantial evidence alone. Please listen to all of the evidence carefully and let us know your thoughts. Did the police get their guy? Or has an innocent man been locked up in our supermax for decades? This wouldn't be the first time...

    We want the right person behind bars. If that's Dennis, then I'm happy they caught him quickly. But they need to prove it, and without ignoring all other avenues of people who fit the profile much better than Dennis did. They didn't do that here.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Pennsylvania to discuss the case of Scotty McMillan, an adorable little red haired boy who lost his life at the hands of his mother, Jillian Tait, and her "sugar daddy," Gary Lee Fellenbaum III, whom she had met at Walmart. Soon Gary, who was a father and already married to a woman named Amber, began abusing Scotty and his brother "R." He beat them with metal rods and a homemade cat-o-nine-tails, among other things, while they were hung upside down by their feet. On November 3rd, 2014, Scotty was beaten to death for not eating his breakfast. He was pronounced dead the following day.

When Macy ultimately succumbed to her injuries, Jeanie tried to pin the crime on her lover, Zachary Keefer. Zachary was cleared of all charges, including that of domestic violence against his ex-wife, Lisa. In all, Zachary served 44 months in jail for these crimes. And Jeanie? She is still free as of the time we recorded this episode, has a new baby, and is active on the dating apps. Jeanie is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Tennessee to discuss the tragic case of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, a lovely young couple from Knoxville that were kidnapped, tortured, sexually assaulted, and murdered. Four males and one female were arrested, charged, and convicted in the case. According to the Associated Press, some bloggers and media critics claimed that the national media ignored the murders because the victims were white while all five suspects were black. Most news reports came from local media and online news sites. Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said that there was no indication that the crimes were racially motivated. He said, "We have no evidence to support the notion that this was a race-based crime. We see this as a cold-blooded murder." However, some commentators disagreed, claiming that such a crime represented motives of racial hatred. The media circus that ensued overshadowed the senseless deaths of the two victims involved, Channon and Chris.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Lubbock, Texas, to discuss the case of Marion Jester Montoya, a sweet little girl who had the misfortune of being born to a mother, Veronica Weems, who didn't have her best interests at heart. After cheating on Marion's father, Emilio, with his friend, Trevor Rowe, the new "couple" move in together. Although Emilio made several reports to CPS about his daughter's welfare, they simply didn't listen - much like in many of the cases we cover. Things came to a head on January 7th, 2020, when Marion's mother didn't want the burden of watching her daughter. Instead, Trevor stuffed Marion into a backpack and brought her with him to his roofing job. She was later stuffed into the trunk of his car, where she later died.

After leaving Hawai'i, Zachary's mother, Jessica Analani Dutro, took her kids to Oregon where she met and started a relationship with a man named Brian Cody Canady, with whom she'd have a child. But things were not well in the Dutro/Canady household. The family was in and out of homeless shelters, and Jessica was a strict disciplinarian, running her household like an army. Ultimately, Zachary was the target for both Jessica and Brian's ire, specifically because Jessica though Zachary, who was a toddler, was gay.
