The journey through postpartum is often portrayed in sanitized, picture-perfect images that fail to capture the raw, messy reality that so many mothers experience. In this deeply honest conversation between Becca and Laura McHugh, we explore what it truly means to navigate the fog of early motherhood and beyond, revealing truths that are rarely discussed but universally experienced. Have you ever wanted or needed to burn down your life or business after having a baby? Or seriously questioned if you should? Or maybe pre-baby you insisted that motherhood wouldn't change you, but then it DID?
Motherhood strips away our control and transforms us in ways we never expected, often leaving us feeling lost until we learn to embrace the fog and trust ourselves through the journey.
⢠Laura McHugh, a pediatric and NICU nurse turned entrepreneur, shares how her first postpartum experience crashed her expectations and business
⢠The identity crisis of motherhood hits especially hard for high-functioning women used to "hacking" life through control
⢠Sleep deprivation impacts mental and emotional health more than most new mothers realize
⢠Learning to embrace motherhood as transformation rather than loss
⢠Postpartum mental health often goes undiagnosed, with current screening methods catching only a fraction of struggling mothers
⢠Laura's second postpartum experience felt healing because she had more support and a different mindset
⢠Our culture's high standards for mothering create anxiety where grace is needed
⢠Coming back to trusting yourself is the most revolutionary act in a world of expert noise
⢠Different seasons of motherhood require different paces and expectations
⢠Finding small intentional actions that help you feel like yourself in the midst of chaos

Motherhood creates one of life's biggest pivots, fundamentally shifting how we see ourselves and approach life's challenges and opportunities. Monica Ortega shares her journey from LA actress and travel host to Denver mom of two, illuminating how identity transforms us through major life transitions.
In this episode we talk about:
⢠Comfort zones differ for everyone â for high-achievers, slowing down is often more uncomfortable than facing fears or doing big hard gritty things
⢠The "messy middle" of pivoting feels chaotic but offers unique opportunities for growth and self-discovery
⢠Learning to differentiate between feelings and identity helps prevent emotional spirals
⢠Creating a "badass letter" listing all your past challenges builds resilience for future pivots
⢠Perfectionism goes to die in motherhood, entrepreneurship, and marriage â flexibility becomes essential
⢠You can have ambitious goals while extending your timeline to accommodate new seasons of life
⢠Distinguishing between guilt stemming from internal values versus external expectations clarifies decision-making
⢠View "failures" as data collection for better future decisions rather than personal shortcomings
⢠Remember: you can always change direction â no decision is truly permanent

There's a strange energy to 2025 that many of us are feeling but struggling to articulate. In this vulnerable conversation with salon owner and Perfectly Blended podcast host Tonya Rabin, we explore why even the most organized, disciplined women are having trouble finding their flow this year.
Tonya opens up about "having a hard time getting her shit together" despite still accomplishing what needs to be done - a sentiment that's resonating across her salon clients and friend circles. This discussion reveals how this collective experience connects to our natural seasonal rhythms as women designed to adapt to changing circumstances.
We dive deep into what happens when we've been operating at summer-level energy during winter seasons for too long. Your body and spirit eventually demand alignment, creating that uncomfortable misalignment between external productivity and internal seasons that many high-functioning women are currently experiencing.
The conversation transforms when we explore the concept of "blending" versus "balancing." True balance doesn't exist - we're constantly blending different aspects of our lives as we move through changing seasons. This perspective offers freedom from the impossible standard of "work-life balance" that leaves so many women feeling inadequate.
Perhaps most powerful is our discussion about legacy. As Tonya beautifully articulates, her legacy isn't about leaving her salon to her children, but rather about who she is and how she loves: "Not what I have, but who I am." This opens up a healing conversation about being a "legacy changer" rather than just a "cycle breaker" - focusing on creating something new rather than constantly fighting against old patterns.
If you're feeling out of sync with your usual rhythms this year, this conversation offers permission to honor your current season while still showing up for what matters most. Remember, sometimes a healthy pace feels "wrong" only because we're accustomed to constant acceleration.
About Tonya:
I am married to my husband, Jeff Raybon. We have been together for 24 years and married 16. 3 children, 2 of his and 1 of mine, which he adopted when we got married. We are also grandparents to 3 precious angels. I am currently 48 years old and so Iâve grown through many seasons of life and I love chatting with other women entrepreneurs and sharing wisdom nuggets to those coming up behind us and getting any inspiration from those who have gone before me.

Is it more important for you to not get feedback - or to adjust who and where you are getting that feedback from?
Topics we jump into in this quickie episode:
-How sometimes the more and longer we are in the healing and therapy world , the more and better we learn to intellectualize and bullshit ourselves and others and how it can create wide gaps of integrity and even create burnout for those in helping, coaching, and therapy careers
-pedestalized leadership- the gap of humanity, professionalism and having a community of peers who can hold your dynamic range of self, roles, and jobs
-unspoken power dynamics with coaches and therapists and why it's important to name, address, and actively connect around the roles and relationship dynamics
-avoiding asking for help or support until we've already cleaned up our own mess and how inviting others into the process is a big game changer in every area
If you resonate with this episode- you would probably really love working with me where you can get your hands dirty in your own life with these same concepts and tools at a deeply embodied level. A lot of coaches can teach you their own personal strategy and systems, I work differently helping you create deep roots of awareness of all your strengths, weaknesses, and blindspots on every level of being (mental, physical, relational, environmental, spiritual, emotional) and life so that you can be in full life leadership.

Calm and balanced are no longer my goal. Why? Because sometimes life needs and requires me to be activated. It's healthy for us to have anger, rage, overwhelm, and burnout.
Discover the power of understanding the window of tolerance through a holistic perspective and how our personal histories shape our stress responses. By acknowledging the natural highs and lows of our nervous system, we can cultivate health in both the "winter" and "summer" phases of our lives. I discuss the often-overlooked struggle mothers face in distinguishing their emotions from their children's, and why setting healthy emotional boundaries is essential for preventing emotional dysregulation.
Explore the concept of dynamic balance with me, as we move beyond the limiting ideals of rigidity and flaccidity. Drawing parallels to the changing seasons, I share insights on building a resilient life force through somatic healing and updating unconscious patterns that may be holding us back. Instead of striving for an unrealistic state of constant calm, learn how to build resilience and adaptability, empowering you to face life's challenges with both strength and vulnerability. If you're ready to embark on this transformative journey, consider joining me to enhance your emotional and nervous system regulation, fostering lasting transformation and self-trust throughout all of life's seasons.
We were never meant to always be or feel balanced and calm. But we can build dynamic range of health, resiliance- building deep roots of wellbeing that can help us meet out lives with the appropriate force needed for good. Sometimes that health is activation in fight or flight and sometimes that health is freezing or fawning. We just don't want to become stuck or cycled into our dysregulation.

Buckle up for this episode of Motherhood Mentor Podcast, where we dive deep into the transformative concept of being embodied in motherhood with Mark Walsh, an expert in embodiment and trauma work. Mark challenges the conventional expectations placed on mothersâbalancing nurturing roles with career ambitions, and being both soft and strong in a world that demands it all.
This conversation explores the difference between reading about motherhood and truly experiencing it, emphasizing that our embodimentâthe way we feel, react, and connect with our experiencesâis key to navigating the challenges of parenting. Mark offers insights into how trauma can become stored in the body, leading to disembodiment and emotional overwhelm, and shares strategies like breathing exercises and grounding techniques that help mothers reconnect with themselves.
What roles do shame, guilt, and self responsibility show up in this season? Can moms have it all with no cost?
This episode offers fresh and bold perspectives and big questions on how to embrace the unpredictability of motherhood, career, prioritize what matters most, and release the pressure of perfection. Mark's insights serve as a reminder that motherhood is a deeply personal journey, and by fostering embodiment, community, and vulnerability, mothers can reclaim their identities and navigate the complexities of raising children in todayâs world.
Tune in for a bold conversation about the beauty and challenges of motherhood with some things that I hope will challenge you and shake up your agency and self accountability.

If you are a mom navigating her health and wellness in the sea of being raised in diet culture- SAME.
Amanda and I have a conversation about how societal pressures and cultural narratives often distort our understanding of health, reducing it to a number on a scale. Instead, we explore how to raise future generations with a more empowering perspective on body image.
We touch on intuitive eating and mindful living, emphasizing that the journey to self-acceptance is far more important than chasing perfection. It's about tuning in to what our bodies truly need, not succumbing to external ideals.
As we unpack the harmful effects of diet culture and then the swing to perfectionism and intense rigidity with food, Amanda advocates for shifting away from self-criticism and embracing personal growth. With insights on moving beyond black-and-white thinking, we offer a balanced approach to food and exercise that nurtures both mental and physical health.
About Amanda:
Amanda is a licensed therapist and registered dietitian. I started my counseling career at an inpatient adult eating disorders rehab center that was wonderful. I lived through the 90s and 2000s as a young woman in a family of mostly women in the pre professional dance world. Luckily I didnt have a high level eating disorder but definitely learned some disordered eating patterns and body messages that Iâve healed through personal work, education, and the beautiful experience of helping and watching wonderful women also heal.

Grief is universal, yet most of the realities of what the experience feels and looks like remains shrouded in silence and stigma. In this heartfelt episode of the Motherhood Mentor Podcast, Becca sits down with one of her best friends Erica to explore the raw and often unspoken aspects of grief, particularly for mothers navigating profound loss. Erica shares her deeply personal journey of losing her mother to breast cancer in 2020, offering a candid look at both the sudden shock of loss and the slow, agonizing preemptive grief that accompanies knowing a loved oneâs passing is imminent. And then the âafterâ the after of grief while navigating young babies and building a business.
Through their conversation, Erica reveals the full spectrum of emotions that come with grief and deathâthose that society deems acceptable and those that are often ignored or no one names. She speaks about the delicate balance of holding space for grief while also being a pillar of strength for her children. This episode touches on the struggles of feeling isolated in grief, especially when friends and familyâs support fades after the funeral, and how important it is to cultivate spaces for ongoing grief-sharing.

She reflects on how sharing memories of her mother with her children has helped her heal and keep her motherâs spirit alive. In this deeply insightful episode of the Motherhood Mentor Podcast, Becca sits down with author and mental health expert David Bedrick to explore the complex emotions of shame, guilt, boundaries, and dealing with your inner critic. Drawing on his extensive experience, David offers a compassionate approach to understanding these emotions and experiencesânot as flaws to fix, but as meaningful messages and medicine that guide us toward healing.
David introduces the concept of the "Unshaming Way"âa paradigm shift that encourages us to embrace imperfections and release the self-criticism that often keeps us stuck. Together, they explore how shame isnât just an emotion but an internalized witness that distorts our reality, creating barriers to self-acceptance and healing. David and Becca discuss some of the highlights of David's new book âThe Unshaming Wayâ
In this episode, youâll learn:
Healing Shame and Guilt: How to break free from the cycle of mom guilt and self-blame, embracing a compassionate relationship with yourself.Perfectionism and Its Roots: How generational trauma and societal expectations fuel perfectionism in mothers, and how to release the pressure to be âperfect.âManaging Parental Anger: How anger in motherhood isnât a sign of failure but a signal of unmet needsâand how to express it in healthy ways.Generational Healing: How to break the cycle of intergenerational trauma and create a new legacy of self-acceptance, authentic connection, and empowerment.David emphasizes the importance of boundaries and self-compassion in healing, teaching us how to recognize the root of our anger and use it as a tool for reclaiming our voice and space. He shares powerful insights on how authentic relationshipsânot perfectionâare the key to healing past wounds and cultivating resilience as a mother.
If youâve ever struggled with the weight of perfectionism, the guilt of yelling at your kids, or the feeling that you're not enough, or the exhausting constant inner critic- this episode is a must-listen. Tune in to discover how to release shame, embrace your humanity, and step into a more empowered, compassionate version of yourself.
