Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón revealed his recommendation regarding the fate of Erik and Lyle Menendez, the brothers convicted of murdering their parents in 1989. Gascón suggested a commutation of their sentence to one that allows parole eligibility. His recommendation reportedly goes a step further, advocating that the Menendez brothers be granted immediate parole, however, a judge must approve once this is filed with the court. "I actually knew them [the Menendez brothers]. I lived at 806 North Elm growing up, which is only a block away. And they were 722. I was a tennis player, and you can fact check that, ha. I actually was friends with Erik. But we didn't go to the same school, I went to Hawthorne on Rexford, in Beverly Hills, but they went to private school. My older brother knew Lyle. And they knew my mom [Dionne Warwick]; they used to, actually, they both have been to my house, ate our cookies. I'm not joking. So the whole complete circle of this is just serendipitous. Here we are, right, I linked up with Fab [Morvan, Milli Vanilli], and I just happened to watch "Monsters". And I heard Blame It On The Rain. And I had already covered the song prior, about almost a year, maybe seven, eight months prior to "Monsters"... even before we even knew about "Monsters". I'm literally just pinching myself, because I'm like, wait a minute, the Menendez Brothers "Monsters" put this song back on the map, 30-something years later. In Part 3 of our Sarah Boone coverage, we dive back into the bizarre case of Boone, who faces second-degree murder charges in Florida for allegedly zipping her boyfriend, Jorge Torres, in a suitcase, leading to his tragic death. With trial updates unfolding, we discuss ridiculous courtroom happenings and witness testimonies from the first week of her trial.
*There was reportedly a text message on January 13th, 2020 ( from Boone to one of Torres' brothers stating that she would "get rid of him," (in all capital letters) referring to Torres. The prosecution read this text message in order to try and prove that Boone had pre-meditated the killing. This was not mentioned in this podcast episode, but is important to note.

On October 16, 2024, nearly two dozen relatives of Lyle and Erik Menendez will hold a press conference in Los Angeles to urge the DA to recommend resentencing in the brothers' case.
