Guest - Katelyn Pankhurst
In this beautiful episode, Katelyn shares briefly her experience birthing her first baby in hospital through the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Birth Center with care from the Young Parents Program. Katelyn touches on some negative aspects of her experience including mistreatment from staff. She then shares her journey, deciding to have a home birth and navigating dual living and other issues that arose in making the decision. Again, her second birth was very speedy, the midwife very near missed it! She had a very empowering experience which led to her full support of home births.
Finally, Katelyn opens up and shares the surprise pregnancy with her third, very wanted, little boy. She knew immediately that her choice for birthing this time would be at home again, but without the care of a private midwife.
Hearing the ups and downs of Katelyns journey through all of her pregnancies and births will surely have you engaged and full of oxytocin.
I've also kept a little "break" in the poddy where Katelyn tends to her child, happily playing around her, because this is real life and the little voices are so sweet! Most women that I have on the podcast are breastfeeding while chatting or have their little ones around them. I love it!
Enjoy! D x

In this last episode of a solo Dear Dayna (before the new co-host joins us next week!) a listener writes in to ask a few questions about what she's been seeing on social media lately. That is, more birth workers speaking up about their opinions on women having a plethora of information about (more specifically but not limited to) birth positions.
Can't wait for you to have a listen to this one!
Let us know what you think and your opinion.

In this solo episode Dayna talks about a theme showing up in the inbox, a hot topic at the moment, and that's having another baby and what that dynamic is like emotionally.
'How could I possibly love another child as much as I love THIS one?!" A question on many mothers minds, far more common than we realise..
Dayna gives her 2 cents. What does she think? Well, you'll just have to listen. <3

*Warning* this whirlwind episode has it all!
Dayna retells her experience birthing her third, but her husbands' first, baby. She firstly gives a background and insight into what was happening in their lives at that point in time, including fleeing a DV situation, studying midwifery, meeting Beau, a flooded house, surgery, sleeping in a car, a proposal and so much more.
This episode contains topics such as breech and other presentations, spinning babies, cholestasis, decision making around induction and precipitous labour.
Keeping the episode to under an hour Dayna feels she could have expanded on everything so much more, and kept it more streamlined, but staying true to the labour and birth, things got hectic!
Enjoy! x

A longer form episode with an expert on Matrescence will be released at a later date. For now, enjoy this little snippet.

Dayna shares the 5 feeding journeys she has had with her 5 children.
Spoiler alert, it's not ALL easy, in fact it gets a little shakey in parts, but ultimately it's a great listen to understand the complexities and nuances of the same mother but 5 different babies and how each and every feeding journey can be oh so different.
14+ year of breastfeeding - and Dayna hasn't gotten into the nitty gritty of the individual experiences but they will be explored in depth in later episodes (we're talking feeding after breast augmentation, milk donation for various reasons, breastfeeding children that aren't yours!)
But for now, you can hear about them all briefly and gain a general understanding before hear about the more complex experiences.

Dear Dayna - Guest Beau.
Dayna sits down with Beau to chat about the listeners question, "how do I convince my partner to agree to a home birth.." and "how did you convince Beau?'
Like all Dear Dayna's it's not a simple answer, and they both delve into possible reasons one might have reservations, other underlying issues within the relationship, and, pose another question, "do you even need to convince someone?'
They revisit reasons for choosing free birth and home birth and how they drew those conclusions, and, give some handy opinions for the listener or any other woman in the same position.
Listen as Beau, a qualified electrician, gives his two cents on a delicate subject around birth and relationship issues.

Guest Nicole - Giddy up! This is the first episode that we have a caesarean birth Mum on, let alone a Mother that's experienced both vaginal and caesarean births! Nicole candidly shares her 5 birth experiences and shines a refreshing light on what it is like to birth in both the public and private sectors as well as why she feels that her decision to have 2 elective caesareans following 3 vaginal births was just as empowering as the first 3 births.
There're many giggles, hilarious anecdotes and wise words shared.
An episode not to be missed. This is Nicole's story...
