This is a review of all dynamic microphones on the market as of February 2024, that have a built-in "booster" or "mic activator", so their own preamp built in, which - in exchange for supplying it with 48V (or in one case 24V) phantom power, can boost the mic signal by 18-50 decibel, depending on the model.

The RØDE NTH-Mic (or the RØDE NTH-100M if you buy it in a package with the RØDE NTH-100 headphones) is a smart addition to the NTH-100 headphones, as it turns them into a headset. While it is advertised to be plugged directly into your computer's 3.5mm port using the supplied new TRRS cable, I actually think there's a way better option to use it to its full potential. With Youtube's podcasting endeavours starting to bloom and Spotify allowing it's podcasters in certain countries to upload video podcast, it is increasingly becoming relevant to at least start thinking about making video podcasts. Doing so requires - first - a good camera. Recently, the best beginner camera is hyped to be the Sony ZV-E10, and for good reasons. It shoots in 4k (downsampled from 6k), it does not overheat, has no recording limit and offers a really snappy and reliable face/eye detection autofocus, which make it an ideal beginner's camera. However, the face/eye detection autofocus can in certain specific cases let you down: you have to make some sacrifices to use it. There are 6 cases, when you will not be able to use it: this podcast lists these cases and why they are important.

Starting a podcast is a lot of fun, however while many will tell you that you can do that just by grabbing your phone and a headset, I actually think it is slightly more complex - from researching to making your podcast discovered you will have 11 different jobs to accomplish before your podcast shows up on Spotify or on Apple Podcasts. Don't worry though, you will not have to excel in all of them (or in any of them in fact) but that does not save you from executing these roles. :)
