All you didn't know about Mikey, the behind the scenes video editor that went from delivering sausages around Yorkshire to becoming an extremely talented self taught Races to Places video producer. It wasn't all plain sailing though, it had it's ups and down and some of them very serious downs but Mikey recently agreed to open up about this in a podcast with me, not just to share what we went through working together but also to share his story and the seriousness of addiction and the support required from those around you. Watch or listen to the full episode to discover the story. A reminder that this can happen to anyone around you.

One of the nicest guys I have had the pleasure of meeting and I can now call my friend Joey Evans. The 'From Para to Dakar' legend recovered from a spinal cord injury that left him paraplegic to finishing the Dakar Rally on a motorcycle that was run over by a car just days from the finish. My team mate at Africa Eco Race in 2020, Joey continued his show of resilience after hitting a Camel on the penultimate liaison, being medical evacuated to hospital and still managing to ride into the finish.....last. With a 100% finish rate at Rallies (finishing 8 from 8) Joey chats to us about what it takes to finish races from the back with the physical challenges he faces while also bringing up 4 daughters and public speaking around the globe. I hope you enjoy watching or listening to this discussion, always something new pops up when talking to Joey.

Over the year, times have changed and things have happened that have influenced the location and the commercial feel of the rally. In more recent years, we have seem competition increase and just recently big rule changes in many areas of the rally and the sport that is changing it big time. Is it for the better or not? I had a call with Ned Suesse, the man the got me into desert racing and someone who has completed rally himself.
Enjoy and please don't forget to share your comments and let us know if you like this kind of stuff. Thanks for listening.

After travelling with Lukas for some 5 months from Europe across to Magadan in Eastern Russia, we parted company and our journeys went separate ways. We always kept in touch but Lukas left the grasps of social media when his trip came to a halt in 2016. So, what happened to Lukas M? In this episode I got Lukas back on the show to share his story and to have a good chat about the experiences we had together.
I'd like to thank Lukas for opening up publicly about his accident and sharing some details and thoughts, it might just help some of you one day.

In this episode we catch up with Walter Colebatch of Sibirsky Extreme and talk at length about the evolution of adventure motorcycles. We look at the history of adventure travel and the influence of the Dakar Rally on this and the design of adventure type motorcycles. The trend from the 90’s that swung towards larger adventure bikes through to the trend today where we see all the manufacturers starting to focus on smaller adventure bikes as the trend shifts. We talk about travels, riding experiences and techniques, social media influences on travel and the current covid situation and how it might influence travels in the near term. We even talk about the advantages of Polo shirts for travel and touch on electric bikes towards the end. It's 2 hours long so get the kettle on or have along journey planned!

In this episode myself and Llewelyn Pavey from Brake Magazine discuss the thinking behind Basil bike and what It took to build what I believed was the ultimate adventure bike for my specific purpose. Of course everyone has different needs and therefore we look at what is important when building a real adventure bike that will be used in remote location for long distances etc.
