  • In this shorty episode, I am sharing a thought that has been incredibly impactful for me as of late– something that I believe can transform how you approach your day and week. You've probably heard me (or others) talk about time management and planning, but I want to dive into the concept of a “top three” and a “big one.”

Your daily top three are the tasks that, if accomplished, would make you feel like you’ve moved the needle in your business, but there’s also value in identifying your “big one” for the week—the one thing that, when done, makes you feel truly accomplished!

Listen in as I explore how this focus can make a huge difference, especially for creatives who juggle multiple projects. I also share how it’s been working for me in my own product development and invite you to reflect on what your big one is this week. Let me know what you are working on yourself, and as always, remember that there's room for you!

  • I hope that you will join me for this episode as I discuss what I call “the gift of going second.” It all started with a trip to Dollywood’s Splash Country for my son Bear’s birthday. I’m not much of a thrill-seeker, but I’ll tackle most water slides – but not without someone going ahead of me first to give a little feedback!

This got me thinking about how much we rely on social proof in our businesses, whether it’s reviews, testimonials, or case studies. We want to see that someone like us has already gone before and found success, right?

Listen in as I explore the importance of showcasing a diverse range of people who have benefited from your offers - whether they be young, older, hobbyists, or total pros. I also share insights into how to use social proof to build trust and grow your audience authentically!

Let's chat about how to give your customers that reassuring “gift of going second." Let's go, and remember - there’s room for you!

  • This episode is for all you entrepreneurs out there with a team, whether it be a virtual assistant or a whole crew of twelve! If, like me, you are managing a remote team, then you know the challenges of keeping everyone connected and engaged when you’re not physically together.

I have definitely dreamt about having an in-person studio, but with where I live, it’s simply not happening, so I have had to get creative in making our virtual environment feel close-knit, collaborative, and, perhaps most importantly, fun!

Listen in as I share some of the little things that we do as a team that make a big difference. We have a “watercooler” Slack channel where we chat about anything and everything non-work-related, and a “watch list” channel where we bond over our latest TV obsessions. We even celebrate our side hustles together! I am also all about giving my team permission to take it easy when they need to!

I also talk about how taking a step back as the boss can actually empower your team and why a little flex time can go a long way in creating a strong company culture, even when you’re all miles apart! Tune in for tips on fostering connection in your virtual team and making work feel a little less like, well, work!

  • Do you ever feel like you're juggling too many tasks at once? Trust me, I have been there, and it’s why today’s episode is so close to my heart!

I have had people ask me, “Bonnie, how do you do it all? Do you even sleep?” While that might sound like a compliment, it actually makes me cringe a bit because here's the truth: I don’t do it all, and you shouldn’t expect yourself to either!

This episode is all about normalizing getting help, whether it's in your business or at home. Listen in as I share my own journey of learning (the hard way) that it’s completely okay to ask for help and how it has transformed my life and business. I dive into the things that I have decided to keep in my “zone of genius” and the tasks that I have happily handed off to others.

Plus, I have a special freebie for you: my Task Tending Guide! It’s a simple but powerful tool to help you audit your time and decide what you should keep, prune, pull, or transplant!

  • As creatives, most of us eventually have to face the scary task of pitching or presenting our work, whether it be in trying to sell our work to a client, get it published, get it licensed, etc. It can be, as I said, scary, but it definitely doesn’t have to be! Listen in today as I guide you through mastering the art of the pitch!

I discuss the common fears that tend to hold us back, such as self-doubt, fear of rejection, imposter syndrome, and more. I share some personal stories that help exemplify how I overcame some of these fears and reach out with my pitches.

Learn some practical strategies such as thorough preparation, pitching in tiers, and fine-tuning your portfolio so that it reflects the work that you truly want to be doing. I also emphasize why it’s important to create a routine around pitching so that it becomes a basic part of your workflow rather than something that you dread.

Plus, stay tuned for a reminder about my new Ultimate Art Licensing Handbook, a treasure trove of insights that will save you countless hours and help you find the perfect art licensing partners for your work!

I also dive into answering the many questions that you have sent in. Why did we choose Iceland? How did we cope with the harsh weather? What activities should be on your must-do list? From hiking the dramatic landscapes to soaking in the soothing waters of the Blue Lagoon and venturing inside a dormant volcano, listen in for the inside scoop on what made this trip truly special!

  • A big part of where worry comes from is our focus on the absolute worst case scenario that our minds can imagine. I know that I am guilty of being a worrier, a habit that has led me to experience significant anxiety, especially back in 2020.

Over the years, I have been working hard on personal development and strengthening my mental pathways to better manage these thoughts, and in this episode of The Professional Creative, I share a simple yet powerful tool that has made a huge difference for me: balancing worst-case scenarios with best-case scenarios!

Whether you're making personal decisions or navigating business challenges, I encourage you to weigh the risks against the potential rewards. • Mental triggers essentially affect all of us. Founded from psychological and behavioral economics, they are psychological drivers that influence our behavior and the decisions that we make. They can take on many different forms, but join me today as I focus particularly on one that has become entwined with my own business - rituals!

Rituals in business can create a profound bond between you and your audience, turning your interactions into something more meaningful and expected. These aren't just habits; they’re things that your audience would notice if they went missing. For instance, I always have a specific way of signing off at the end of this podcast that has become a signature of mine. If I skipped it, you would notice! Similarly, in my membership, content is consistently delivered at 11 a.m. every Friday. If that changed, it would undoubtedly be missed.

I invite you to think about the rituals that you can establish within your own business, whether it be an annual event like a year-end review, a monthly Q&A, or even something as simple as a consistent sign-off. Rituals help build a sense of community and connection. I also touch upon how I use a fantastic tool called Searchie to keep my content organized and searchable, which has been an absolute game-changer for my workflow!

I am also thrilled to announce my new bi-weekly newsletters tailored for surface pattern designers and creative entrepreneurs. These newsletters, Secrets of the Studio and Beneath the Surface, are packed with resources and insights to fuel your creativity and business growth.

I hope that you will listen in as we explore the power of rituals and how they can transform your business. I promise you that you will walk away with actionable ideas to deepen your audience connection!

  • If you've ever thought about adding teaching to your repertoire, you're in the right place. Today, we're diving into how to narrow down the topics you can teach, a crucial step if you're looking to diversify your revenue streams. Often, the decision to start teaching comes before you're entirely sure what you'll teach. It's an exciting journey, and once you take the plunge, you'll likely find that you love sharing your knowledge with others.

Teaching can be incredibly rewarding, but it all starts with ideation. This episode will guide you through a vision-storming session with five essential questions to help you pinpoint exactly what you should teach. We'll explore what makes your craft unique, those informal moments where you naturally fall into a teaching role, and what people are most curious about when they ask you about your work.

Firstly, consider what is unique about what you want to teach. Think about the distinctive aspects of your craft—those elements that set your work apart. Reflect on your informal teaching moments; these are the times when you've naturally found yourself explaining or demonstrating your process to others. These moments can provide valuable insights into what you're naturally inclined to teach.

Additionally, research market needs and gaps. While it's unlikely you'll find something completely untapped, teaching from your unique perspective can fill a niche and offer something fresh. Pause and assess your personal passion. Ideating can be exhilarating, but slow down to ensure the topic you choose is something you're deeply passionate about. Once you start teaching, it may become a significant part of your career, so it's vital to choose a subject you can talk about for a long time without losing interest.

And last but definitely not least, consider how you can make this uniquely you. Brainstorm the specific ways you approach your craft and create a mind map of your process. This personal touch will not only make your teaching more engaging but also distinguish your offerings from others in the market.

By the end of this episode, I hope you'll have a clearer vision of what you can teach and how to transform your passion into a fulfilling new aspect of your creative business.
