  • Florida native McCoy Gibbs made the move to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 18 to pursue a Music Business degree at Belmont University. He not only earned that degree, but also made lifelong connections and friendships while falling in love with the city, energy, and opportunity that is Nashville. The crazy part is that Gibbs didn’t really learn to play drums until his college years. For this natural musician, drums and rhythm came naturally and he found his groove, literally.

After college, Gibbs emerged as a drummer while playing with pop/rock band Hot Celle Rae. He then went on to become an independent drummer to soak in all the music he could. During this time he met tons of musicians, bands and artists, cut his teeth on the grind of Broadway bars and “honky tonks,” and jumped in a van for a random show in Montana. He loved every minute of it.

In 2013, his hard work paid off when Gibbs successfully auditioned for CMA-nominated Duo of the Year, Love and Theft, and hit the road for the busiest year of his life thus far. It hasn’t slowed down for him since. From touring, live TV performances, music videos and award shows, Gibbs has kept himself quite busy.

Gibbs is currently playing with 2017 CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Lauren Alaina, and continues to find other ways to fill in the occasional off day with sessions, shows, and housework. If there is an example of hard work, passion, and preparation paying off, McCoy Gibbs is that example.

  • Kris Myers was born on April 5, 1977. Receiving a drum kit at the age of 8, he took an early interest in jazz, rock and punk music. During high school Myers co-started his first musical outfit, a ska/punk band called the Skalawags. The group received a decent amount of success but denied an offer to tour Japan to instead pursue college degrees.

Myers attended Elmhurst College from 1995 – 1999 where he was a music major and the drummer in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Under director Doug Beach, the Elmhurst College Jazz Band played gigs in the U.S. and Internationally at events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival.

In 2001 Myers enrolled in DePaul University where he earned his master’s degree in jazz drumming and was a member of the Rob Parton Orchestra. In addition to his involvement in school bands, Myers was playing in festivals with a variety of jazz artists such as Nicholas Payton, Diane Schuur, Randy Brecker, Dennis DiBlasio as well as local musicians Mark Colby and John McLean. Myers also was a member of Chicago jazz fusion band Kick the Cat.

Myers began playing drums for progressive-rock band Umphrey’s McGee in 2003 following the departure of original drummer Mike Mirro. With Myers at the helm, Umphrey’s has released ten albums and maintains a rigorous touring schedule of over 100 live shows per year. Umphrey’s has performed at legendary festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre and more.

With Umphrey’s, Myers has shared the stage with countless notable musicians such as Buddy Guy, Huey Lewis, Ivan Neville, Les Claypool, Stephen Perkins, Mike Keneally, Joshua Redman, Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Victor Wooten, Adrian Belew, Stanley Jordan, Gene Ween, Derek Trucks and Jason Bonham.

In 2011 Myers was honored with the title of Best Jam Band Drummer by DRUM Magazine, beating jamband stalwarts such as Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers) and Jon Fishman (Phish). In 2018, Myers was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer’s July issue. Myers placed second in the Experimental Rock category of the publication’s “Readers Poll Awards” behind St. Vincent drummer Matt Johnson.

  • Born and raised in Arkansas, Evan grew up playing drums at his dads church in Fort Smith. He was the kid that would sit behind the drummer during church and soak in every detail and nuance. Once church let out, he'd jump up on the kit and play, until the next church service started a few hours later. • Frenette's love of music started at the age of 5 while playing the bongos and listening to records with his parents. Artists like Perez Perado, Tito Puente, Herb Albert, Johnny Cash and Tom Jones were constantly spinning on the record player. By the age of 10, Matt was learning his rudiments in a marching and concert band. Some of Matt's early influences include Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, Michael Shrieve, Danny Seraphine,Billy Cobham, and later influences include Manu Katche, Steve Gadd, and Richard Bailey.

Frenette is a founding member of Streetheart and his legacy as the other half of one of rock’s greatest rhythm sections is still a part of Canadian rock legend. Matt’s fierce approach to every song and powerful grooves he created were a big part of the musical foundation that Streetheart built their unmistakable sound on in the early days.

In 1979 Matthew left Streetheart to join Paul Dean’s new band Loverboy. Originally, Matt Frenette played drums for a side-project band, Headpins while Bernie Aubin played drums for a fellow Vancouver band, the soon to be renamed Loverboy. But within months, Aubin and Frenette swapped bands, where each continues to play to the present

Alongside fellow Loverboy founding members Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Doug Johnson, with Ken "Spider" Sinnaeve, Matt Frenette has been "Working for the Weekend" since forming in Calgary, Alberta over 36 years ago. Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning four multi-platinum plaques, including the four-million-selling "Get Lucky."

In 1982, as a member of Loverboy, Frenette went on to win a "still-record" six Juno awards.

Matt's solid groove, versatile musicality and his visually exciting performance has created a demand for his appearance in many different artists' recordings, videos and tours, such as: Tom Cochrane, Bryan Adams, Kim Mitchell, Colin James and many other talented musicians.

  • Adam Gust was raised in the cold of Minnesota, studied music in the heat of the University of North Texas, and has enjoyed a diverse freelance musical career of world touring and session work and teaching in just-right Los Angeles since 2000. After a humbling decade of recovery from a career-threatening injury, Adam acquired a unique expertise, empathy, and voice that inform his lessons and masterclasses.

Adam's journey of relearning how to practice has helped him to stumble upon highly effective student based progressive learning strategies. Adam is excited to share his story of evolution from the ’back of beyond’ as he explains how he implements technology and new academic ideas while re-assessing traditional forms of drum instruction.

"You will only get as good as you feel"- Adam Gust

Especially for drummers, technique is about feeling music. It is a measure of how well your mind and body allow your heart to project out through the drums. Therefore, a student's focus is on sensation, posture, symmetrical rhythmic movement, and balance. Employing these systematic mindful practices nurtures our joy of playing and promotes our improvement as musicians and as humans.

  • In Lee’s own words:

I was born and raised in Concord, NC. Just Northeast of Charlottle, it was a town of 25,000 back then. As long as I can remember, music was around. Whether it be the turntables or 8 tracks; where my older brothers played rock and roll of the 60s & 70s, Dad listened to older country artists or Mom’s Pontiac Bonneville, which seemed to always have the hits playing through it’s car stereo from either 61AM Big Ways, 95FM WROQ or 1100 WBT-AM
Music was always a comforting companion.

Not coming from a particularly musical family other than them playing the radio, the drum bug came from the next door neighbor playing and then taking it from there. I was playing with records by 8-9 years old; began school band in 7th grade with the natural progression through high school playing in marching, jazz and symphonic bands throughout.

Since music was not viewed in my family as something you pursued as a career, I studied English Literature & Writing at Pfeiffer University until my senior year in 1990-91 when long time friend and a musical mentor, Rick Lee, called and said, "I'm forming a new band and you're the drummer." This was the beginnings of my music career and the 2019 Carolina Beach Music Hall Of Fame band, Too Much Sylvia.

After leaving TMS in 1994, I played with a few different bands out of Charlotte and all around the East Coast through 1996. In September 1996, a weeklong trip to Nashville, TN put the hook in and I moved to Music City on January 11, 1997. Fortunately, I got club and road work pretty quickly while learning constantly along the way. The idea was to make a living while seeing the world and that plan came to fruition over the years backing artists like Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Heidi Newfield, Kelly Pickler, Loverboy, Kendell Marvel and, now, Hank Williams Jr. Also, to be able to play and share time with some of the finest musicians & people along the way has just been magic. It's a ride I can't get off of...Nor do I want to.

Along with time on the road with Hank Jr., I offer drum/percussion tracks to any clients out of the "Boom Boom Drum Room", do club/showcase/session work around town and spend time caring for my family. It's never boring and music is STILL a comforting companion.

Hope to see y'all at a show sometime!!

  • Bill Gibson began playing music at the age of seven. He found his passion for music when his father Ed Gibson, an architect by trade but a jazz drummer in his own right, began taking him to see such greats as The Count Basie Orchestra, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, and The Buddy Rich Big Band. Inspired by big band jazz and rock & roll styles, Bill got his first drum kit at age fourteen, and began playing drums with local bands the following year. He soon became the drummer for Sound Hole and played his first tour in 1974 backing up Van Morrison.

Bill is a founding member of Huey Lewis and the News, which he and other members of Sound Hole and the band Clover formed in 1979. 33 years later, the band is still going strong and has enjoyed enormous success with over 30 million albums sold worldwide, 19 top ten hits including "The Power of Love", "Stuck With You", and "Hip To Be Square", and multiple awards and award nominations. Bill remains an integral part of the band, lending his writing and singing talents as well as providing drums and percussion.

  • Born in Brooklyn and raised in Massapequa, New York, Phantom grew up listening to his parents' jazz records and began playing drums by the age of ten. He took lessons with Mousie Alexander, who played with Benny Goodman, studying jazz and working through books by Jim Chapin and Ted Reed.

By the late 1970s, he was playing in bands with his childhood friend, bassist Lee Rocker. They soon joined forces with guitarist Brian Setzer to form Stray Cats.[ When performing with Stray Cats, Phantom did not sit behind a standard drum kit like most drummers, but instead opted to play in a standing position with a minimalist set-up of bass drum, snare drum, hi-hat, and crash cymbal.

During downtime from Stray Cats, Phantom played in swing, rockabilly, and jump blues combo The Swing Cats with Rocker and ex-Polecats guitarist Danny B. Harvey,[6] as well as rockabilly and glam rock project Phantom, Rocker & Slick with Rocker and guitarist Earl Slick. In 1985, he appeared with Carl Perkins and a host of other musicians including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Dave Edmunds and Rosanne Cash for Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session in London, England. Phantom also played with Jerry Lee Lewis.

He later formed Col. Parker with former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke, releasing the album Rock n Roll Music in 2001.[

Most recently, he has been involved in the eponymous roots-rock band Slim Jim's Phantom Trio; rock-and-roll supergroup Dead Men Walking with Kirk Brandon and Mike Peters, and Captain Sensible;[ and rockabilly supergroup The Head Cat with Danny B. Harvey and the late Motörhead vocalist and bassist Lemmy. He also hosts the Rockabilly Raveup show on Little Steven's Underground Garage.
