  • This week, we're featuring a replay episode in loving memory of Leanna Maksymiuk.

I interviewed Leanna at the end of 2021 and she was one of those guests that I instantly connected with. The joy and light in her voice when she spoke about the love she had for her family, animals, and land is why I do what I do. Staying connected with her over the last few years and watching her grow was an honour and privilege.

Hearing of her passing in July was shocking and heartbreaking. Replaying her episode is my way of keeping her memory alive and allowing listeners, and loved ones, to keep sharing Leanna's story.

We have linked the GoFundMe link started by a family friend in the show notes. If you're able to contribute please do.

  • On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Courtney Witt.

Courtney is a wife, mom of 3, plant nursery owner, and flower farmer! Courtney and her husband, Andrew moved to small town, rural Arkansas shortly after getting married 10 years ago to follow their farming dreams!

Andrew and Courtney found themselves holding regular, off farm jobs while hobby farming.  They knew God had more in store and took another leap of faith when they sold their beloved farm and bought a 40+ year old plant nursery.  They converted the old barn into their shop and home and turned the unused land into a u-cut flower farm.  While they will always have farm animals, floriculture has opened up a new world of farming for them, flower farming!

  • On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, join me for a special, solo show to celebrate the stories being shared on The Rural Woman Podcast. For this episode, we are talking about Resilience and rural women.

The last solo episode I recorded was 100 episodes ago on the show, and it was about the things that I had learned from rural women from the first 100 episodes. Well, now that we're at 200 episodes, I've learned a whole lot more, but the one topic I want to focus on today is resilience, because I know there are a lot of feelings that come up when we hear the word resilience.

  • On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Victoria Lee.

Basil Ranch has been providing fresh herbs and produce to restaurants and grocers since 1996. Victoria took over the reigns in 2015 and saw an opportunity to grow the produce we were providing using hydroponics as a solution to food security in our northern climate. Their indoor hydroponic farm ran year round in the heart of Inglewood, providing fresh greens and mushrooms to local restaurants and grocers. Basil Ranch's goal was to contribute to the city's food security by using low tech, highly sustainable hydroponic food systems.

In November of 2023, Victoria decided to scale back to the things that are near and dear to her heart and closed down the hydroponic farm to focus on the edible flower farm located in the heart of Highfield, on a City of Calgary Urban Farm Project.

  • On this week's episode of The Rural Woman Podcast™, you'll meet Paige Stewart.

As of Spring 2023, Paige farms full time with her husband and the crew at Four Mile Partnership in Fillmore, SK. After a 15-year career on the "other side of the desk" as an Account Manager for multiple companies, lastly in a National role with a small-medium size crop protection company.

Paige’s primary passions are building strong, 2-way relationships with their farm network (i.e Account Managers, farmers, industry contacts), working on their farm succession and sharing those learnings and support with peers and empowering the amazing ag-women she’s collected over her career…which she believes are all divinely interconnected.
