Today we are travelling into one of the most extreme working environments ever created by human beings, a place where men voluntarily lived under immense pressure, worked hundreds of feet beneath the surface of the sea, and trusted their lives to a system that had to function perfectly every single day.
I have to put a disclaimer: if you suffer from Thalassophobia, submechanophobia (like me), or Claustrophobia, be aware that this episode can trigger you.
The story we are covering today is disturbing because every part of it is real, documented, investigated, and understood.
This will be a very long episode, so make sure you bring your drinks and snacks while we dive in… literally.

In the southern region of Venezuela, deep within the vast wilderness of Canaima National Park, there are landscapes with Tepuis.
A Tepui, or tepuy, is a table-top mountain, or mesas, because of its flat surface. They can be found in northern South America, especially in Venezuela, western Guyana, and northern Brazil.
The word tepui means "house of the gods" in the native tongue of the Pemon, the indigenous people who inhabit the Gran Sabana.
Come hike today with Juan Pablo and his experience in the jungle.

This is the story of The Vampire Panic of New England, a time when grief, superstition, and desperation drove people to open graves and search the bodies of their own loved ones for signs that the dead had returned to feed on the living.

Tonight’s story takes us to the Gulf of Mexico, a vast stretch of water surrounded by the United States, Mexico, and Cuba, an area that has been explored, mapped, and traveled by sailors for hundreds of years... but the reality is that it disappeared.

Today, we are stepping into the tense and mysterious world of the Cold War, a time when the entire planet seemed to live in a quiet shadow of suspicion, secrecy, and hidden dangers that could appear in the most ordinary places.
During those decades, governments on both sides of the political divide were constantly trying to outsmart each other, using spies, secret technology, coded messages, and elaborate schemes that often sounded more like fiction than reality.

The Lead Masks Case is unsettling not because of its visible brutality, but because of its precision, its preparation, and the unanswered question of its intention.
Two men walked up a hill in Brazil in 1966. They brought raincoats, a notebook, water bottles, and carefully crafted lead masks to cover their eyes. Days later, they were found dead, lying side by side, with no visible injuries and no clear explanation.
What happened on that hill remains one of Brazil’s most perplexing unsolved cases.

Submechanophobia is the fear of submerged man-made objects. It is not simply fear of deep water, and it is not just fear of drowning. It is the anxiety triggered by artificial structures resting underwater.
Ships, statues, anchors, ladders, buildings, playground equipment, oil rigs. It is about scale and silence and distortion. It is about seeing evidence of human creation where your brain expects coral, sand, and fish.
