Of all the health challenges people face one of the toughest is chronic pain.
It is a fact that if you have chronic pain, only another person with chronic pain can truly understand how it feels. For many of you, it is frustrating to know you have pain but have little hope of a diagnosis, let alone relief. Many chronic conditions such as tension headaches, fibromyalgia, IBS, migraines, and myofascial pain may be a result of CSS (Central sensitivity syndrome). It can also cause widespread and persistent pain and pain from touching (allodynia). This is one of many causes of pain. But there are numerous other causes that are often missed or mistreated. In an individual without chronic pain, receptors in our ligaments, muscles, skin, and joints detect tissue damage. This damage can be from inflammation, injury, or disease. Numerous neurotransmitters that exist in each cell send electrical impulses from the pain receptor, through the peripheral nerve, up the spinal cord, finally ending at your brain.
When you suffer an injury, you may develop acute or âshort-termâ pain from inflammation or damage. Eventually, the acute pain subsides though the length of time it takes to heal varies based on your injury. The cause of acute pain is known and, therefore, the course it will take is usually predictable. If you think about a needle pricking your finger, you can see that the sensation is always the same. The pain goes from your finger, up your arm, and to your brain in relatively the same way. This is not the case with chronic pain.
However, for many, the source of and answer too their chronic pain isnât known.
There are numerous causes of chronic pain. Many go unchecked and untreated.
If you have issues with chronic or acute pain please take time to watch my interview with pain specialist Leslie Parran. Leslie has an incredible medical background, one that allows her help those with chronic pain and inflammation find the source and appropriate treatment for their chronic pain.

Bloating, Gas, Constipation, Loose Bowel Movements, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Heartburn
One estimate is that 40% of the US population has some degree of esophageal reflux, with 20% of adults complaining of weekly episodes of heartburn and 7â10% complaining of daily symptoms. Esophageal reflux occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter malfunctions, allowing the backward flow of acid, bile, and other contents from the stomach into the esophagus.Fortunately there are some tried and true NATURAL remedies for heartburn.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Over 40 million Americans who have been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bowel movements are an important topic. Some experts report that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 10â20% of the general population. Irritable bowel syndrome is characterized by a group of symptoms in which abdominal pain or discomfort is associated with a change in bowel pattern, such as loose or more frequent bowel movements or diarrhea, and/or hard or less frequent bowel movements or constipation.Gender plays a clear role as more than 80 percent of IBS patients are women between 20 and 55 years old. The financial burden of IBS is high. In the United States IBS results in an estimated $8 billion in direct medical costs and $25 billion in indirect costs annually.
Again, fortunately there are some proven natural remedies for IBS. We discuss these in the podcast.

Could your chronic pain, fatigue, weight gain, headaches, anxiety, depression, IBS, brain fog, high cholesterol, and other symptoms be from low thyroid function?
The symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. How too properly diagnosis a problem with your thyroid. How you can self-test to uncover if you have a low thyroid function. And most importantly proven protocols for correcting low thyroid to boost your mental and physical energy, reduce or eliminate chronic pain, anxiety, depression, excess weight, headaches, high cholesterol, brain fog, IBS, and more.
In fact, low thyroid function is a common cause of theses numerous other unwanted symptoms.
And unfortunately conventional âstandardâ blood tests (TSH and Total T4) arenât thorough enough to catch low thyroid problems.
In this podcast, Iâm going to share the importance of optimal thyroid function.
Itâs estimated that 1% of the population is suffering from hypothyroidism. This number is widely disputed. *Many scientist, researchers and physicianâs believe as many as 40% of the population has hypothyroidism. Every cell in the body depends on having enough thyroid hormone. If your thyroid gland becomes dysfunctional, every cell in the body suffers.
About My Guest, Inna Topiler:
Inna is the Founder of Complete Nutrition and Wellness â an integrative nutrition practice â and the host of Health Mysteries Solved Podcast.
Inna is also the Co-Founder of Pregnaceuticals, a prenatal nutrition line and the Co-Founder of My Custom Cleanse. As a little girl, she remembers always being sick and not feeling well. By 20, she was diagnosed with Hashimotoâs, suffered from several digestive disorders, had major skin issues and was chronically exhausted. With all those issues though, doctors were not able to tell her where they came from or offer many treatments aside from heavy duty medications.
She did not want to commit to a lifetime of drugs only to treat her symptoms. After many stops to a myriad of specialists (who by the way never talked to each other) and several years of frustration and feeling like she was not any closer to discovering answers, she found a clinical nutritionist and a functional medicine practitioner that helped her figure out the root causes of her issues and how they were all interrelated. She learned she had major mercury toxicity (she has 16 amalgams and was vaccinated twice after moving to America at the age of 9), her adrenals were shot, her thyroid was not supported properly, she had parasites and candida, she was sensitive to gluten and dairy and had a multitude of vitamin and mineral deficiencies all leading to the health ailments she was experiencing.
She was so impacted by her recovery that she changed her career. After her original business degree, Inna completed a masterâs program in human nutrition at the University of Bridgeport and went on to complete a food based program at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She got certified as a nutrition specialist by the American College of Nutrition and constantly maintains her degree with various courses to stay current with the newest research and continually expands her knowledge.
Since starting her practice in 2006, she has helped thousands of patients get to the root of their underlying health issues and reclaim their health. Inna has been featured in various publications such as Fitness, Elle and the New York Times and is often referred by various medical doctors who seek her help. She is sought after not only in New York but also nationally and internationally. With the ease of phone consultations, Inna works with patients all over the globe.

Iâve said for years the key for life long good health is teaching our children what it means to be healthy. I canât think of a better podcast to start the year off right than with Dr. Madiha Saeed sharing her passion for helping families get healthy and stay healthy.
Madiha is a dynamo of positive energy. How refreshing to see a conventionally trained MD, be so passionate about holistic health. I wish Jill and I had had access to a holistic physician when my kids were younger. We had to educate ourselves and come up with strategies for raising our kids to be health oriented thinkers and eaters.
Our first born, Dakotah didnât have processed sugar until her fifth birthday. It must have been a treat since she face planted into her cake and emerged with a smile and a face full of cake.
My kids have grown up without ever eating at McDonaldâs or other fast food restaurants. They rarely if ever drink sodas.
None of us are perfect. Nor should we be. A treat here and there is fine. Harris loves sweets! Ridge loves ice cream and Jill loves but rarely eats baked goods (sheâs gluten intolerant).Weâve mellowed over the years. I think that happens when youâre on number three.
However, all my children understand the importance of eating healthy and making good choices. They arenât perfect but they get the big picture.
Being healthy and staying healthy is a real advantage in life, something not to be taken lightly. Eating healthy is an investment that repeatedly pays dividends over a lifetime. I enjoyed spending time with Dr. Saeed. I think you will too.About My Super Healthy Human Podcast, Guest Speaker: Dr. Madiha Saeed
Born and raised in Illinois, I completed my residency in South Bend, Indiana, after which, I joined an integrative medical practice. There, I witnessed firsthand the struggles each patient encountered, and their frustration in not knowing where to begin. With my team, which included a nutritionist, psychotherapist, exercise physiologist, chiropractor, acupuncturist and other physicians, I was determined to get to the root cause of disease for each patient and myself.
Not only did I have the joy of witnessing hundreds of success stories thanks to a holistic approach, I experienced firsthand the power of healing as I lost 50 pounds and beat hypothyroidism, eczema, sebhorrheic dermatitis, acne, fatigue, alopecia, joint pain, weight and digestive issues, all while balancing a growing family and work!
In 2015, I moved to my hometown and established my own practice. When I wasnât with patients, I was researching, pulling together the puzzle pieces of true holistic health care. If I as a physician was confused, how could those suffering all over the world find healing?
After four years of study, I took matters into my own hands and wrote The Holistic Rx: Your Guide to Healing Chronic Inflammation and Disease. It became a #1 best seller in multiple categories on Amazon, interpreting the best of holistic, functional and integrative medicine in ONE source for over 70 conditions across the lifespan.
My enthusiasm for holistic health only continues to grow. Years of study and interactions with patients have transformed my life as a doctor, coach, wife and mother. My crazy life at home is filled with five young, very active boys (four sons and a husband), a daily reminder of my passion: helping families heal and prevent disease, despite a crazy and busy schedule.

Most of us can handle the ups and downs of our daily lives, even the occasional catastrophe. We dig in our heels, persevere, and eventually learn to cope. âStressâ is experienced when a person perceives that the demands made upon her exceed the mental, physical, personal, or social resources she is able to mobilize.
Some individuals have an altered stress-coping system, which prevents them from managing daily stress. For example, studies suggest that cumulative effects of physical, mental, chemical, or emotional burdens in early childhood disrupt normal homeostatic stress-coping abilities, thus making them more susceptible to the effects of stress â and illness â later in life. (A possible reason for this is an overstimulation or dysfunction of the HPA axis in the brain, which is discussed in detail below.) In fact, retrospective studies show that people who have been emotionally, physically, or sexually abused as children are at great risk of developing certain symptoms, including many associated with FMS.As they get older, have more responsibilities, and experience an increase in their daily stress, they often find their health beginning to suffer. They may start to have bouts of anxiety and depression, or perhaps theyâre just tired all the time. They become extremely vulnerable to major stressors: going off to college, starting a new demanding job, the death of a loved one, chronic illness, invasive surgery, physical trauma, et cetera. Like a ticking time bomb, itâs only a matter of time before they explode. This is especially true for those who have a genetic predisposition to suffer the ill effects of daily stress, for example, reduced levels of serotonin â the hormone that regulates mood. Sadly, I find that many of my FMS patients have experienced at least one form of abuse as a child. Of course, the stress doesnât have to begin in childhood in order to seriously impact our health. For example, physical or emotional abuse from a partner or spouse creates a stressful situation that, over time, depletes their stress-coping chemicals and lead to a state of disease. The symptoms of fatigue, pain, poor sleep, poor digestion, irregular bowel movements, mental confusion, poor memory, anxiety, and depression are all warning signs that these chemicals (including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and hormones) have become deficient. These deficiencies then complicate one another until the bodyâs homeostatic mechanism and HPA axis become dysfunctional. The straw that breaks the camelâs back may come after years of a stressful marriage, work environment, illness, financial challenges, or from a sudden traumatic event like a surgery, death of a loved one, or physical and or mental trauma. Once broken, the body isnât able to right itself. Chronic poor health becomes the norm.

Symptoms of Hashimotoâs thyroiditis include anxiety, depression, fatigue, high cholesterol, weight gain, achy pain, brain fog, migraine headaches, chronic sinus infections, high cholesterol, poor immune function, hair loss, cold hands and feet, and constipation.
Often triggered by chronic stress, anemia, viruses, gluten intolerance, food allergies, low vitamin D, and immune system imbalance this thyroid condition can cause numerous unwanted symptoms including:
Hashimotoâs thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. It is named after the first doctor who described this condition, Dr. Hakaru Hashimoto, in 1912. Hashimotoâs thyroiditis is a condition caused by inflammation of the thyroid gland. It is an autoimmune disease, which means that the body inappropriately attacks the thyroid glandâas if it was foreign tissue.
