  • Rebecca M. Stahl is the interim Executive Director at SE® International and brings a unique blend of legal expertise and trauma-informed practice to their role. As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP™), Rebecca infuses the organization’s approach with a deep understanding of how trauma affects individuals, families, and systems.

    This perspective is particularly valuable given SEI’s work with vulnerable populations. A non-cishet Jewish person, Rebecca believes in the power of community as a focal point for growth and healing. This philosophy and their Somatic Experiencing® expertise underpin their leadership at SE™ International. They work tirelessly to create inclusive, supportive environments that recognize and address trauma, nurturing resilience in all individuals touched by the organization’s work.

    Rebecca's journey to Somatic Experiencing® was informed by their extensive child welfare and family law background. Rebecca leverages their Somatic Experiencing® training in their leadership role to guide SE™ International’s programs and initiatives. They emphasize the importance of addressing trauma at both individual and systemic levels. This trauma-informed lens shapes everything from program design to staff training, ensuring that SE™ International's work is effective and compassionate.

    As a former representative for children in child welfare cases in Los Angeles County, California, and Tucson, Arizona, they witnessed firsthand the impact of trauma on young lives. This experience, combined with their academic pursuits, including a Fulbright Scholarship in New Zealand, where they earned a Master of Law degree focusing on children’s legal representation, provides a solid foundation for their trauma-informed leadership approach. Before joining SEI, Rebecca served as the Executive Director of the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children, and the Courts at the University of Baltimore School of Law. In this role, they continued integrating their Somatic Experiencing® training with legal practice, recognizing the powerful potential for healing when these disciplines are combined.

    Rebecca is a respected voice in both legal and trauma-informed circles. They have presented at international conferences on children’s rights and family law, often focusing on the intersection of legal practice and trauma awareness. Their co-authored book, “Representing Children in Dependency and Family Law: Beyond the Law” reflects their commitment to holistic, trauma-informed representation of child clients. At SE™ International, Rebecca conducts worldwide trainings to help lawyers and other professionals navigate trauma manifestations in themselves and their clients. This work is central to their vision for the organization, as they believe that trauma-informed practices can revolutionize how we approach our communities and the world with more compassion.

He co-authored, with Michael Nichols, Family Therapy: Concepts and Methods, the most widely used family therapy text in the United States. Dr. Schwartz was Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute for Juvenile Research, and later at The Family Institute at Northwestern University.

  • Ruth Lanius, MD, PhD, is Professor of Psychiatry and the director of the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) research unit at the University of Western Ontario. She established the Traumatic Stress Service and the Traumatic Stress Service Workplace Program, both services that specialize in the treatment and research of PTSD and related comorbid disorders.

    Ruth currently holds the Harris-Woodman Chair in Mind-Body Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario. Her research interests focus on studying the neurobiology of PTSD and treatment outcome research examining various pharmacological and psychotherapeutic methods. She has authored more than 100 published papers and chapters in the field of traumatic stress and is currently funded by several federal funding agencies. She regularly lectures on the topic of PTSD nationally and internationally

  • Lisa Danylchuk, LMFT, E-RYT, is a licensed psychotherapist and founder of The Center for Yoga and Trauma Recovery.   • Myles leads the development of Confluence Retreats, which seeks to integrate nature-based, multi-day psilocybin retreat experiences into Oregon’s innovative legal framework, and in the process, collaborating with indigenous communities to restore ancient healing practices to the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument.

    Previously, Myles co-founded The Synthesis Institute, where he served as Director of Business Development, spearheading the development of one of the world's initial legal psychedelic service models. This groundbreaking initiative supported over 1,000 individuals in their mental health journeys until its closure in 2023.

  • Laura Brown is a feminist trauma psychologist who practices psychotherapy and forensic psychology in Seattle and has published extensively on topics related to trauma treatment, feminist practice, cultural competence, ethics, and LGBT concerns.

    Laura founded, and until June 2015, directed, the Fremont Community Therapy Project, a low-fee psychotherapy training clinic in Seattle. She has authored or edited fifteen professional books including the award-winning Subversive Dialogues: Theory in Feminist Therapy as well as more than 150 other professional publications, and have been featured in six psychotherapy training videos.

    Laura is also a late-in-life student of aikido, in which she holds the rank of Nidan, or 2nd degree black belt.

  • Julie Stevens grew up in Southern California and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at 13 to live with her two moms during a time of profound social change, marked by the Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, and LGBTQ movements. Amidst this vibrant atmosphere, Julie struggled with her identity and turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with early family turbulence. However, her community, including her moms, grandmother, and mentors, played a crucial role in helping her find confidence and purpose.

    This is what it’s about--passion, heart and helping others. And today, my guest exudes all of those elements. Today, I’m speaking with Juditta Ben-David, SEP M.A., founder of The Mindfulness in Arabic project (MiA).

    MiA has built a website that offers an eight-week Mindfulness course in Arabic, designed for refugees and people in transition. Any person with internet access may enter the website, free of charge, anywhere around the world. The course provides practical tools and exercises tailored specifically to support a shaken population that suffered traumas of fear, death and extreme violence.​ Juditta’s website also provides tools for therapists, social workers, welfare workers, and volunteers who are currently working with refugee populations, so that they may use mindfulness-based tools for their own needs in coping with work stress and related DP camp difficult experiences, as well as passing them on to their clients.

    MiA developed out of the work of our founder, Juditta Ben-David, SEP M.A, in refugee camps in Turkey. Working there with refugees and their supporters/counselors and social-workers the request for additional tools led to a crowdfunding campaign raising one-half of the funds needed to launch our 8-week course. MiA is thankful to be supported by leading Mindfulness instructors like Jon Kabat Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Christopher Titmuss and Patricia Genoud-Feldman as well as Mindfulness providers like Headspace and Mindful Magazine.

  • Akilah Riley-Richardson, MSW, CCTP is a published researcher, Relational Healing Facilitator, couples therapist and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She has been in clinical practice for sixteen years and has experience working with couples and persons practicing consensual non monogamy, both in the Caribbean and internationally. She has been a Social Work Educator at the University of the Southern Caribbean since 2012.
