  • For anyone who has watched, heard about, or read about the Golden Bachelor, one statement is true: you likely fell in love with Leslie Fhima. Leslie is a Minnesota born and raised, 65-year-old woman who has always been willing to try something new to explore where it may take her. As a young figure skater, it was her dream to be a part of the Ice Follies, a touring ice show with elaborate productions, which she auditioned for and joined for 2 years following high school. In the 80s, she opened up Leslie’s Shape Shop, an aerobics studio, after training with Jane Fonda, and continued her journey as a personal trainer and fitness instructor with LifeTime. Leslie Fhima and co-host, Lisa Rubin, have been extremely close friends since high school. As Lisa would say, “Leslie is always reinventing herself and ahead of her time”.

In this episode, we hear more about Leslie’s upbringing and her past that brought her to the person we were introduced to on national television. We learn about the friendships fostered from the Golden Bachelor, her feelings today towards Gerry, the behind the scenes of the clothing, hair and makeup on the show, and what is next for Leslie. She is authentically and truly herself (Lisa can attest to that).

  • A Minnesota-born artist and author, Jodi Hills now lives, loves and creates in the south of France. Jodi started writing and painting when she was five years old. No matter what she was feeling, she would go into her room and put it down on paper. As Jodi says, “I guess it's not just what I do. It's who I am! C'est moi!” A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Jodi went into advertising for her first job. She wondered: if she could write about something she didn’t care about, like toilet paper, what would it be like to write about something she really DID care about? The first show she ever had was at an art fair with a few framed originals, a few prints, and some cards. It was surprising to her when she sold the original paintings, but the pure joy came from the woman who bought a single card – a single card that cost one dollar. Jodi believes, no matter the budget every person should have the same opportunity to buy a piece of art that moves them. From originals, to prints, to cards, to home goods, to coffee table books, Jodi Hills makes something for everyone. Every word or piece of art is an expression of what she experiences or sees in the world: it’s all personal. After a gallery show in Chicago, she accidentally fell in love with a French man; then, got married on purpose and moved to the south of France. In this episode, we not only hear more details of her love story, but we learn what motivates and inspires Jodi. We learn about her daily routine, and the importance of saying “yes”.

  • Sally Mixon, the founder of Abijah’s on the Backside, has a passion for horses, horse racing, and mental health. With her Masters in Professional Counseling and certification in the ARCH framework, Sally has founded an organization that uses retired race horses to serve and help military, first responders and stable workers with trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more. As a young woman, Sally struggled with severe anorexia; she went into rehab, hating every second of it, and moved to East Texas to work at a semi-locked-down facility for youth to run their horse program. It was through her work there, that her idea for Abjiah's was born. Growing up in Wisconsin, in a military family, Sally knows firsthand what it's like to be a part of a veteran and first responder community.

In this episode, you will learn more about the vision and execution of Abijah on the Backside, hear stories of the impact this organization has had for veterans and first responders, how to access and utilize this organization’s services, and more about Sally as a woman in a predominantly male dominated industry.
