We had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with debut author L. Costevelos. Known for her imaginative blend of psychological thrillers, romance, and fantasy, L has captured readersâ hearts and minds with her first novel Wanderlust, a haunting, twisting story that challenges the very nature of reality itself. And what a conversation it was.For those of you who joined us live (thank you, paid subscribers!), you already know how deeply inspiring and refreshingly honest L was. From Dreams to DebutL. Costevelos has been a storyteller since childhood, always imagining the mystery hiding around every corner. During the interview, she shared how her sense of adventure, from solo backpacking trips across the world to living with a cat who thinks heâs a dog, shaped the writer she is today. Her path to publishing Wanderlust wasn't without its challenges. L spoke openly about the doubts she faced while writing her first novel, the moments of fear, the bouts of imposter syndrome, and the question every writer wrestles with: "Am I good enough?"Inside the World of WanderlustWe dove deep into Wanderlust, a novel that begins with Raine Black holding a knife and no memory of the crime sheâs accused of.L explained that she wanted to write a story where reality wasnât fixed, where readers would constantly question whether what they were reading was truly happening or just a fractured, desperate version of the truth. She revealed that mental health was a natural part of the story's evolution:âI didnât set out to write a book about mental health, but as Raineâs story unfolded, it became clear that the lines between trauma, fantasy, and survival were impossible to ignore.âOne of the most interesting behind-the-scenes details? The character of Nicholas, the creature who guides Raine into the parallel world of Wanderlust, came to her in a dream during a particularly stressful time. She wrote the first scene with him almost immediately after waking up, and he never left the story. The Creative Process and What's NextWhen it comes to writing, L described herself as a "plantser" â someone who plans just enough to get started but loves discovering the story as she writes. She also shared how important it is to embrace mistakes along the way:âYour first draft isn't meant to be perfect. It's meant to be passionate. Trust that you can fix it later.âAs for whatâs next?L teased that she is working on a brand-new psychological thriller, darker and even twistier than Wanderlust, but sheâs taking her time, making sure the story lives up to the standard sheâs now set for herself. She also hinted (with a knowing smile) that she may return to the world of Wanderlust one day.Final ThoughtsL. Costevelos is the kind of writer, and person, who makes you believe in the power of stories all over again. Her journey to Wanderlust, filled with resilience, creativity, and raw honesty, is a reminder that every great book starts with someone daring to say yes to their wildest ideas. We are so excited to see what comes next for her. If you havenât yet picked up Wanderlust, now is the time, trust us, you won't want to miss the ride.Thank you again to all our paid subscribers who joined us live and got early access to this incredible conversation. Keep an eye out for the public release of the interview in two weeks!Until then, keep writing, keep dreaming, and keep chasing those stories.CJ & Chris

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of sitting down with the incredible Daniel Hurst, an Amazon #1 bestselling author known for his gripping psychological thrillers. Now, weâre excited to make the full interview available to everyone! If you havenât already, you can watch the full conversation on YouTube or listen to it on our podcast.Danielâs journey from a passionate storyteller to a full-time bestselling author is nothing short of inspiring. In our interview, he shared insights into his writing process, the challenges he faced breaking into the industry, and his thoughts on the evolving landscape of publishing. From Early Struggles to Full-Time WritingHurstâs love for storytelling began in childhood. Growing up in the northwest of England, he enjoyed creating stories and always had a vivid imagination. However, like many aspiring writers, he struggled to see a viable career path in writing and spent years working a âsensibleâ job while writing in his spare time.Eventually, his persistence paid off. By 2021, he transitioned into full-time writingâa decision that led to a string of bestsellers, including The Doctorâs Wife, The Passenger, and The Coupleâs Revenge. His ability to craft fast-paced, unputdownable thrillers has earned him a loyal readership and significant success in the publishing world. The Writing Process and Keeping the MomentumOne of the most fascinating parts of our discussion was Danielâs approach to writing. Unlike many writers who spend years perfecting a single manuscript, Hurst thrives on momentum. He emphasized the importance of consistency, treating writing like a full-time job, and producing stories efficiently without overcomplicating the process. His advice to aspiring authors? Donât wait for the perfect momentâjust start writing. Discipline and routine play a crucial role in staying productive, and he believes that overthinking often kills creativity. The Publishing Journey: Self-Publishing vs. Independent PublishingInitially, Daniel took the self-publishing route, a decision driven by impatience with traditional publishingâs lengthy timelines. By doing so, he gained valuable experience in marketing, reader engagement, and rapid storytelling. His self-published success eventually led to partnerships with independent publishers, allowing him to reach an even wider audience.Hurst believes that while traditional publishing still holds prestige, the accessibility of self-publishing has made it an excellent path for writers willing to learn the business side of the industry.Engaging with Readers and Whatâs NextOne of Danielâs biggest strengths is his ability to connect with readers. He frequently interacts with fans on social media and values their feedback. This direct engagement, he says, has shaped his storytelling and made him a better writer. As for whatâs next, Daniel has multiple books in the pipeline with Bookouture, with more thrilling stories set to hit the shelves in the coming months. His ability to consistently deliver compelling narratives ensures that his readers always have something to look forward to.Watch or Listen to the Full InterviewThis conversation was filled with inspiration, advice, and behind-the-scenes insights into the life of a bestselling thriller author. If youâre a writer, a reader, or just someone who loves a good success story, you wonât want to miss it!đ Watch the full interview on YouTube: Weâd love to hear your thoughts! Itâs the sworn enemy of every writerâfrom seasoned novelists to first-time scribblersâand yet, itâs where every masterpiece begins. How cruel. If youâve ever stared at an empty page and felt a mix of dread and frustration, youâre not alone. Every writer, no matter how experienced, has faced the suffocating silence of the blank page. But hereâs the good news: the blank page isnât invincible. In fact, itâs just waiting for you to take the first step. And thatâs what weâre here to talk about today.Recently, we released something very different: a mini-episode video called âThe Blank Page: Enemy of the Creative Soul.â Itâs a funny, relatable take on the eternal battle between writers and their greatest nemesis. If you havenât seen it yet, weâve brought it to life with humor, a touch of drama, and some surprisingly practical advice. (Check it out and let us know what you think!)But for those of you who prefer the written word, letâs dive deeper into how you can tackle the blank page and start turning your ideas into words.1. Why Is the Blank Page So Scary? The blank page can feel like a mirror for all our fears as writers:* What if my idea isnât good enough?* What if Iâm not good enough?* What if I write 3,000 words only to realize itâs utter rubbish?Itâs easy to feel overwhelmed by the weight of expectation, but hereâs the truth: the blank page doesnât care about perfection. In fact, its job is to be filledâwith anything. Your job is to give it something to hold, no matter how messy, silly, or imperfect.2. The Secret to Conquering the Blank PageThereâs no single magic formula to overcome the fear of starting, but here are some tried-and-true strategies that work for us:Start Small and SillyNot every word you write has to be gold. In fact, most first drafts are pure chaosâand thatâs okay. Write something ridiculous if you need to. For example:The avocado king declared war on the banana republic. It was a battle no one saw coming.See? Itâs silly, but itâs writing! Sometimes the act of putting any words on the page is enough to break through the fear.Lower the StakesStop thinking about writing as âcreating a masterpiece.â Think of it as an experiment, a doodle, a rough sketch. Give yourself permission to write badly. Itâs easier to edit a terrible sentence than to edit nothing at all.Set a TimerUse the Pomodoro Technique or set a timer for 10 minutes. Tell yourself, âI only have to write for this long.â Often, youâll find that starting is the hardest part, and once youâre rolling, the words come more easily.Ask QuestionsWhen youâre stuck, start by asking questions about your story. What does your character want? Whatâs the worst thing that could happen to them today? If youâre not writing fiction, ask yourself what problem youâre trying to solve for your reader.3. A Writerâs Pep TalkIf youâre feeling overwhelmed, remember this: Every writer you admire has felt exactly how you feel right now. Even the greats have stared at the blank page and thought, I have no idea what Iâm doing. But they pushed through. They started with one messy sentence, then another, and another. Thatâs all writing isâa series of imperfect sentences that somehow come together to make something meaningful. You donât have to write a masterpiece today. You donât even have to write well. You just have to write.4. What Did You Think? This mini-episode was a bit of an experiment for us, blending humor with advice to tackle one of the most universal struggles writers face. Did it resonate with you? Did it make you laugh? Did it help you stare down your blank page with a little more courage?Weâd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. Should we create more of these mini-episodes? What other writing challenges would you like us to tackle (with a bit of humor, of course)? As always, thank you for being part of our writing community. Now go forth and fill that blank pageâeven if itâs just with your grocery list. Itâs a start.Happy writing!Subscribe for More Fun and Advice:

Beginning as a journalist for niche trade magazines, she brought stories to life on topics ranging from accounting to port logistics. But it was the birth of her third child and a life-changing decision to leave London for Brighton that marked the first major shift in her path. As a freelance PR and founder of Magenta Associates, Cathy thrived, but her creativity truly blossomed when she embarked on a two-year creative writing course in 2016. In her own words, this course transformed ârandom thoughts and scribblesâ into what would eventually become her debut novel, The Girl in the Maze. Spurred on by the 2020 lockdown, Cathy finished the novel, submitted it to the Agora Books Lost the Plot Work in Progress prizeâand won.
Now, with a reissued version titled The Girl in the Midnight Maze and multiple new works underway, Cathy has fully embraced a life immersed in books and storytelling.

This deeply moving tale explores three generations of women entangled in family trauma and the struggle to connect across time and tragedy. Cathy shared the inspirations behind the book and the challenges she faced in bringing Emma Bowenâs story to life.
Part 3 - Community Questions As always, we brought our community into the conversation. Alongside our staple questions, Cathy answered burning queries submitted during the live show.
A Glimpse Into The Girl in the Midnight Maze Hereâs a preview of Cathyâs newest release: Emma Bowen has never had a close relationship with her mother. After her motherâs death, a series of letters reveals secrets spanning generationsâsecrets that may explain the emotional distance between them. Emmaâs journey to uncover her familyâs past is as haunting as it is enlightening. Traversing time and tragedy, The Girl in the Midnight Maze is a story of motherhood, legacy, and the search for understanding.
