Martin McDonagh teams up again with the acclaimed acting duo of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason for his 2022 period piece, The Banshees of Inisherin. Set during the Irish Civil War on the tiny fictional island of Inisherin off the coast of Ireland, the film depicts two friends who appear to be rowin’. Well, they might be rowin’. One of them is not quite sure if they are rowin’. Regardless, the film is a masterclass in acting and writing as the cast, lead or supporting, shows that they are at the top of their game and McDonagh continues to show why his screenplays are always worthy of accolades. You don’t want to sleep on this one!

Often known for his original concepts or groundbreaking adaptations, 2017 saw Christopher Nolan make his first entry into historical dramas with Dunkirk. At the time, many wondered how the filmmaker would make this well known story of the rescue of hundreds of thousands of soldiers his own. And he didn’t disappoint. Nolan once again used the plot device of time, but not in the way that many came to expect. Telling the story from land, air, and sea, Nolan wove together the harrowing tale with respect to all involved in this nearly impossible mission.

In 2017, Jordan Peele shocked the world with his first feature film, the brilliantly written and directed Get Out. Known to that point only for his comedic prowess from the sketch show Key and Peele, the rookie filmmaker won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2018. A standout, Oscar-nominated performance from Daniel Kaluuya helps bring the script to life in this tense and sometimes uncomfortable horror/thriller. Join us as two white guys completely unqualified to speak on the black experience in America do their best to express their appreciation for this unforgettable, original tale.

"Hello... I'm Johnny Cash." Those four words were once enough to send concert goers wild. And it's no wonder. Cash was a force to be reckoned with when he came on the scene. But his life was far from glamorous. As James Mangold's 2005 biopic shows, Cash wrestled with many demons throughout his life. Through the spot-on portrayals of Joaquin Phoenix as Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter, we get an award worthy glimpse into the story of their life and love. Even if you are not a fan of the music, this film isn't one you want to skip.

While critically acclaimed in 2003, this naval war epic still seemed to fly under the radar of most audiences due to the accomplishments of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Despite the lack of attention from general audiences, the film still holds up extremely well. From the thrilling musical choices to the non-stop swashbuckling adventures, Russell Crowe aptly leads this crew through a tale that you won't want to miss!

How far should a teacher go to ensure that a student becomes great? If you were to ask Terence Fletcher, he would tell you that you can never go too far. In 2014, Damien Chazelle broke onto the scene with the Oscar nominated hit, Whiplash. However, the film would not be what it is without the life that J.K. Simmons breathed into the role of a music instructor/conductor teacher who demands nothing but absolute greatness from his students. Sean and Brendan breakdown the wonder of seeing an actor truly inhabiting a role.

The cast and crew of this sci-fi cinematic experience bring the desolate red planet to the screen in masterful form and ask the question, ‘How far would you go to save one person’s life?’
