Dragging Twin Peaks a Season Three Podcast back from the wilderness with all the requisite care and respect, is Deputy Andy Brennan. The man behind the icon, Harry Goaz, joins us to talk about his new role in the Eddie Alcazar film The Vandal. Fresh from winning new fans at the Cannes Film Festival, The Vandal (executive produced by Darren Aronofsky, and starring Bill Duke) is already being tipped to be an Oscar contender. Harry also shares his thoughts about his book Ballroom Harry Volume II, and of course, Twin Peaks, in all its forms. All this, and a wrap up of what we know, and what we can surmise, about David Lynch's new television series 'Unrecorded Night'.

The four-and-a-half-hour YouTube video 'Twin Peaks ACTUALLY EXPLAINED (No, Really)' has inspired more theorising and critiquing that almost any piece of criticism since the end of Season 3. The brain behind it, a YouTuber named Rosseter, has divided fans with his bold claims and authoritative approach, but received widespread acclaim from many who've watched his video. While he admits he might change its name in the future, once the SEO has done its work, Rosseter won't be changing his mind about his conclusions that will, regardless of what you think of them, make you want to rewatch Twin Peaks.

For the final episode of 2018 we'll share an interview with casting director Johanna Ray. Johanna has worked with David Lynch on all of his projects since the filming of Blue Velvet, in 1985, including Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks Season 3. In the interview, Johanna is very forthcoming about her fascinating career and about the 2019 film The Happy Worker, directed by Twin Peaks editor and sometime director Duwayne Dunham, and executive produced by David Lynch.

We're back with a discussion of the Conversation With the Stars event that took place across Australia and New Zealand in August and September. Andy finally got author Brad Dukes to sit down for a chat about his book Reflections: An Oral History of Twin Peaks, what life was like inside the hothouse of secrecy and leaks during the production of Season 3, and how despite knowing more than almost anyone, Season 3 defied Brad's expectations.
During the interview, Brad mentions Greil Marcus's mention of his book on Pitchfork: https://pitchfork.com/features/greil-marcus-real-life-rock-top-10/9895-i-need-to-scream-what-it-means-to-be-a-fan/
Brad also mentions the Washington Post article that samples heavily from an early chapter of his book: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/10/07/twin-peaks-is-back-but-its-a-miracle-the-show-made-it-to-tv-in-the-first-place/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.1b8443888ad7
And, in case you missed it, the TMZ leak that confused and excited everyone for two years, including Brad: http://www.tmz.com/2015/10/10/twin-peaks-leak-video-laura-palmer/

It's weaponised nostalgia.
You wouldn't do this to Barbara Streisand. -
In our final episode (for the foreseeable future), we focus on the journey of Dale Cooper. “The core of it is Agent Cooper’s odyssey back to Twin Peaks,” said Showtime president David Nevins. Who are we to argue?
To follow this faint and complex path Andy is joined by screenwriter, director and Twin Peaks nerd Keith Gow, author of the much shared and cited article "You Are Far Away: Agent Cooper and His Troubling Return to Twin Peaks" to discuss the origins, journey and possible futures of Agent Cooper.
You can find Keith's article here: http://www.keithgow.com/2017/09/you-are-far-away-agent-cooper-and-his.html.

For our second roundtable discussion of The Return we take a final lap through the characters and places before dropping in for a chat with long-time David Lynch sound collaborator John Neff, John talks about their song No Stars, their band Bluebob and why he thinks he's seen The Return before. Special guests this week include film theorist Eloise Ross, composer and music therapist Bec Blakeney and Christian McCrae, writer of the forthcoming book 'Dune'. All this and analysis that has listeners saying "more please", and friends saying "you're STILL doing that?"

This week we bring back some of the guests we've had in earlier episodes to talk about Twin Peaks The Return, as a finished entity. We open with a rant from Andy, have a freewheeling discussion that returns to the topic of Twin Peaks as a trauma narrative, what to make of Cooper's journey and Bis finishes with an extremely powerful and satisfying theory about Part 18. Finally, we have an interview with Damian Lund, set dresser and recurring extra in the show in which he shares some insights into the production and tells us what it was like to be the first person to eat cherry pie at the Double R (you can get some idea by looking at the picture above). Damian was walking the streets of Brooklyn during our interview so the audio quality isn't great, but his enthusiasm more than makes up for it.

Our discussion the final two parts of Twin Peaks the Return concludes with a profound mix of satisfaction, joy and sadness. Thomas Caldwell helps us come to terms with the realities, resolutions and reinterpretations.
This episode ends with an interview with Twin Peaks The Return's producer Sabrina Sutherland who talks about her long journey before and during production, and what's next.
All this and analysis that's been described as "rich" from the podcast that someone on Reddit said was "probably in my top 10 Twin Peaks podcasts".

Our discussion of Parts 17 and 18 have been divided into two episodes. Part 18 will be out on Thursday AEST (Wednesday in the US and UK) with an interview with Twin Peaks The Return producer Sabrina Sutherland.
Joining us to discuss the extremely bold turns the show is taking in its final hours is film reviewer, actual David Lynch scholar and film festival programmer Thomas Caldwell.
Who'll cry during the podcast? Who'll reference Lacan? Who'll request essays about Asian bodies being used as literal shells for caucasity? Who'll do a shockingly bad East London accent? All this and analysis that's been described as "brilliant" spoken by people who have "nice accents".

Is Part 16 the first installment of The Return that gives us more answers than questions? Bismuth Hoban joins us on the journey from a highway to a dancefloor for a narrative that goes into hyperdrive. The son goes into the trap, the tulpa goes out the window and more than one person wakes up after a long time away. All this and commentary that's been described as “stellar” and “great”.
During TheoryFish Andy mentions a very interesting theory written by Eileen G. Mykkels entitled 'Laura Palmer is Dale Cooper’s Mother and Here’s Why". You can find it here: https://25yearslatersite.com/2017/08/24/laura-palmer-is-dale-coopers-mother-and-heres-why/

ZZ Top and Sunset Blvd. together at last! David Bowie in a diving bell, Ed and Norma in love, Richard in trouble, and Dougie and Margaret in states of change, it’s Part 15 and it’s got it all. We open with a discussion about sound and dissociation in Twin Peaks before we dive into the episode and finish with an interview with Jake Wardle, actual Freddie Sykes himself! All this an commentary that has been described as "detailed".
Halfway through the episode Andy refers to the origins of Judy and refers to this very interesting 2009 article from John Thorne: https://abovethestore.blogspot.com.au/2009/04/judy-judy-judy.html
Finally, Andy is TOTALLY WRONG when he says that he remembers Leland Palmer referring to The Robertson's living above a convenience store at Pearl Lakes. Andy got confused with MIKE'S story about the convenience store and Leland's reference to the Robertsons living in a cabin. He apologises for any trouble caused by this.

Starting positions listeners. Join us as we unravel timelines and reflect the reflections for Part 13 of Twin Peaks the Return, with help from special guest Brisbanian film critic and long-term Peaks fan Sarah Ward. Time loops, Peaks fracture, frames straighten and a pattern emerges, from a joyous conga line to an empty gas station. All this an commentary that has been described as both "thoroughly enjoyable" and "unwholesome".
Toward the end of the episode Andy refers to the scene in which Ed Hurley stares out of the window and his reflection doesn't stare back. He thinks it's chilling, other people just say "hmmm". Audrey's out of detention, Jerry's out of the woods, and Sarah's convenience store is out of Smirnoff. It's Part 12 of Twin Peaks the Return and all bets are off. This week, sound scholars and long-term Lynch nerds Thembi Soddell and Jess Pinney join Andy and Hayley to discuss one of the most divisive installments yet. Talk turns to Twin Peaks and trauma, Lynch and Hurley's sound design and what's really going on with Charlie and Audrey. All this and solid, and now award-winning, Peaks discussion that some listeners are calling "really good, actually."

Lay out the chevron tablecloth, set your ovens to 'Moderate' and sharpen your Instagram filters, it's time for another slice of Twin Peaks The Return. All this and solid, and now award-winning, Peaks discussion that some listeners are calling "decent" and "ace!".
During the podcast, Andy mentions THIS photograph that compares Gordon Cole's vision of the Woodsmen on the staircase with the picture that Mrs Tremond gave Laura in Fire Walk With Me. It's worth a look: https://imgur.com/a/XeptA

This week we round out our discussion about Part 10 with an interview with the actor who plays its most potent protagonist Richard Horne, the surprisingly forthcoming and very non-American Eamon Farren.
Our guest this week is Anders Furze, he's a journalist at The Citizen, co-host the podcast Cultural Capital, a freelance film critic who engages in mad Twitter lolz at andersfurze.
Andy mentions a spreadsheet listing all the inconsistencies between Season 1 and 2 canon and Mark Frost's book The Secret History of Twin Peaks. You can find that here (and it's best done while keeping in mind Mark's favourite quote "the truth is a pathless land"): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XEvoZzu9XUU13cWcELbJ3vQ2M--lnnGowrElBTRec8M/edit#gid=0

We open our recap of Part 9 with a short discussion about giving up on TV shows and how the new season is broaching new ground in regard to its depiction of Dougie and mental illness with this week’s guest Stephanie Lai.
Early on Hayley mention's Mr Roque’s article The Pain and Sorrow of Convenience: Oil and Corn, Avatars of Atomic-Age Suffering in Twin Peaks. You can find it here: http://exploretheglassbox.weebly.com/non-exist-ent/the-pain-and-sorrow-of-convenience-oil-and-corn-as-avatars-of-atomic-age-suffering-in-twin-peaks
Later in the episode we discuss the hum in the Great Northern and Andy mentions an article about the un-filmed and unscripted future for Josie that makes him think she is connected: https://twinpeaksarchive.blogspot.com.au/2011/07/between-two-worlds-josies-fate.html?m=1

With The Return paying a respectful silence to July 4 it seemed like a good time to share an interview with Mark Frost recorded earlier this year. While wandering around his place in California, Mark Frost talks about his book The Secret History of Twin Peaks, creating the new season and, being a sentient human living in the United States, his take on its political fortunes.

Take a deep breath, bring your zippo and remember to blink, it’s time to strap in and set the controls for Part 8...
First, meet your copilot Clare Nina Norelli. Clare was already an accomplished writer about film sound, music and David Lynch before she wrote the book Soundtrack to Twin Peaks in which she tackles Lynch and Badalamenti's use of music in the first two seasons. All this, and analysis critics describe as being "from the heart" and "surprisingly decent."
Shownotes:
On this episode we mention Herk Harvey’s 1962 film Carnival of Souls and Gene Moore’s organ-heavy score. Like any self-respecting Lynch academic, Clare wrote about this film years ago and you can find her essay on the film and its soundtrack, which many attentive Twin Peaks viewers have mentioned influenced some scenes in Part 8, here - https://cinemaandsong.wordpress.com/2015/08/07/carnival-of-souls/
If you don’t already own a copy of Clare’s book, you can find out more about it and source a copy here - http://www.bloomsbury.com/au/angelo-badalamentis-soundtrack-from-twin-peaks-9781501323010/
The two sound nerds who carry around frequency analysers on a daily basis that Andy mentions are future guest of the show Jessica Pinney and Thembi Soddell, both currently engaged in researching sound and emotion at Melbourne's RMIT University.
