Noah, Eliza, and Anthony create the ultimate dream-team of towering performances from within the horror genre, from the most loveable and awesome final girls, to hauntingly believable possessions, to transformative villain roles. The gang takes some time to shiver in admiration - and fear!! eeeeeee - at the double header of Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, Bruce Campbell's terrific clowning, and Barbara Hershey's harrowing work in 'The Entity'.

  • finally it's happened to me (getting Molly on the podcast)

Life was a drag until we got Molly Ward in the studio, to talk about a pair of twin films that see straight actors dragging it up in mirroring road-trip comedies. A longtime listener with a deep love of all things drag, Molly is here to help Noah and Eliza enthuse over the still-legendary and empathetic Aussie classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Then the gang discusses their first time watching To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar, an Americanised take on a very similar story of queer city-slicker fabulosity stuck in a remote backwater town.

Why is one film so beloved, 'daggily Australian', and perhaps before its time (with a few notable scenes as exceptions), and the other feels somewhat static, with Swayze, Snipes and Leguizamo just as stranded as their admittedly very entertained viewers? it's time to make your choice, and DO fuck it up

it's our first time tackling films with exactly the same title: Disney's world-conquering, kids'-party-inspiring, show-tune-infested Frozen, and an earlier horror film Frozen, about a trio of skiers stranded on a chair lift. In tone and subject matter, these movies couldn't be more different, catering to totally separate audiences but somehow both involving some silly wolf chase-scenes.

Noah and Eliza start discussing their movie opinions in order to keep body temps up n stay alive, branching out into arguments about survival cinema in general and the state of post-Pixar, post-Lego-Movie animated film. Less is NOT more in this chick-lit showdown, where one of our favourite recurring guests Ivana Brehas (https://ivanabrehas.com/) makes the discussion bigger, better, and more dramatique. We watched two confessional tales of aspirational femininity, in which two redheaded pathological liars strive towards the glam jobs/high school musical roles of their dreams whilst casually stringing a fantasy brunette along.

So who has the better confession, our queen Lindsay Lohan in the Disney tween flick 'Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen'? Or Isla Fisher's debt-plagued financial advice columnist in 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'? Who IS the real mary/lola/rebecca etc etc

  • i just want to touch/eat lava okay. tastes like burning :)

The studio is HEATING up this week in more ways than one - Noah and Eliza genuinely get quite fiery at each other over their differing takes on two 1997 cinematic eruptions. 'Dante's Peak' and 'Volcano' came out only months apart in the same year, with plenty of the same lava-and-ash-filled setpieces, and dashing scientists trying not to get sizzled like a sausage in the Bunnings car park.

But the siblings cannot agree on whether Tommy Lee Jones' asshole emergency strategist is enough of a winner!! And we have to hear Noah's 'grandma dying in acid' impression yet AGAIN!! They're our closest genetic relatives but YIKES are they creepy: this week we checked out two films about evil murderous primate, both awesome 80's horror flicks that reckon with the not-so-slight difference between man and MONQUE. George Romero's "Monkey Shines" focuses on a protective capuchin helper monkey, whose quadriplegic owner finds himself living out the creature's animalistic rage. And "Link" traps Elisabeth Shue in an olde English manor with some nice monkeys and one very naughty, cigar-smoking, INCREDIBLY talented orangutan.

  • with a half-century worth of episodes we r officially going through a MID-LIFE CRISIS

On this celebratory 50th Golden Episode, Noah and Eliza show what their mama gave em - some strongly held OPINIONS on boomer cinema!! Joined by legal legend and Janssen family matriarch Leanne Bartram, it's a battle of the generations, centred around two movies that depict and challenge the lofty values and culture of the 1960s, especially when compared to the excess and ruin of the 1980s.

Leanne still loves Forrest Gump, Robert Zemeckis' Oscar-sweeping tear-jerking story of a simple man happening upon American history. Ensemble comedy The Big Chill is a bit more specific, following a weekend of reunion between some hippies-turned-yuppies after a close friend's death. But both have soundtracks that put the BOOM in baby boom, and the discussion may just see a small family get torn apart :O

We're fangirling over the guest appearance of musical star Karis Oka (@karisoka), who brings us two movies about animated dads trying to relive their glory days. Pixar's The Incredibles definitely comes in hot with Noah, Anthony, and Eliza all scrambling to quote their favourite iconic bits, but don't discount the pure whimsy and surprisingly emotional character storytelling of stop-motion sensation Fantastic Mr Fox.

  • you either BURN baby BURN, or you DROWN baby DROWN : (

Eliza, Noah, and Anthony return to the 1970s glory days of the disaster genre, big destructive movies in which an ensemble cast of the era's stars dodge debris, rising waters, and some matching schlocky theme songs by Maureen McGovern.

The real life-threatening dilemma is this: which movie actually wins?? We've got a tie for the ages, with the team having mixed feelings on both the sizzling, broader-in-scope star vehicle The Towering Inferno and the splashy religious epic of an upturned boat The Poseidon Adventure. The former has a nice big spread of characters facing a multitude of mini-disasters, plus it's a rare example of a pair of twin films being knitted together. But the latter has Gene Hackman as an angry new age priest in a skivvy, so audience; you gotta help us out!!

Going from category to category, the gang analyses the meaning of Nomadland's win, the completely awkward Best Actor presentation, and whether Promising Young Woman is feminist film gold or a piece o shit. ’Razzle Dazzle’ is a true underdog story, being about an unconventional children’s dance troupe AND being a little-seen Australian mockumentary that Eliza, Noah, and Meg have randomly championed since age 8. ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’, on the other hand, stars Hollywood comedic talent like Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Alley, Allison Janney, and even Brittany Murphy and Amy Adams in supporting roles!! In commiseration with Eliza, who is TRAPPED in a CRUEL government's nationally mandated quarantine system (actually an extremely comfy and manageable hotel stay), the gang locks the doors and settles in for a claustrophobic double feature. Or is that 'caustrophobic'?? whatever

David Fincher's potboiler 'Panic Room' and Lenny Abrahamson's novel adaptation 'Room' are both stories of motherhood in captivity, taking place over one tense night for the former and the entire process of imprisonment and escape for the latter. But like, did Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart even need to go in that room? And does Brie Larson's Best Actress-winning performance as a kidnapped teen-turned-bitter-single-mom stand above the original novel's gimmick of seeing it all through a child's eyes?

This week the Janssens get seduced by the enduring baby-boomer magic of 'The Graduate', but also Hal Ashby's less successful 1971 cult hit 'Harold and Maude'. Both films take a darkly comedic look at romance, you see, focusing on a lost young guy and his more senior love interest, all soundtracked to the music of a folk-pop troubadour (Simon & Garfunkel in the former, Cat Stevens in the latter).
