In a recent clubhouse conversation, I had the opportunity to explore the tension between personal and business branding. How do creators build personal brands while also working for businesses that are brand-minded? How do we share platforms and empower each other to celebrate our contributions to the work we do together?

In this episode of Valor. I recount a recent conversation I had with a client in the process of designing a one-pager. When was the last time that you held a piece of paper that had over $1 million of value? I think that if you really put your mind to it you'd realize that there are assets in your business that you hold every day that has that type of potential. The problem is we don't often think about it that way.

Our number one step for creating content?
Where in your day-to-day can you systematize and standardize content that can be used to demonstrate value to current and future clients?
Your content is a manifestation of your value. If you aren't creating content you aren't creating value. If you aren't creating value you aren't in business. The real question is are you being intentional with the content (read value) you are creating with your clients?

At Roar, much of our work is based on projects that help businesses reframe or support brand strategy and identity. Every time we encounter a new client we have a standard protocol of questions to pricing a project. This episode isn't about pricing... it's actually about how many of our clients struggle to place a value on their return of investment. How much does a logo cost? What do you charge for a name of a new product or software? In our process inspired by Chris Do and Blair Enns, we answer these questions with a question of our own: "What value do you expect this asset to generate for you?"
In this episode, we explore why businesses should approach designers and agencies with an answer to this question. Because as important it is from the creative perspective to charging a fair price, it's equally important to understand as a business how the asset will impact its revenue, awareness, or efficiencies.

Today we are taking a look at a Harvard Business Review article titled: A Study of 597 Logos Shows Which Kind Is Most Effective. Their study shows descriptive logos communicate and connect with consumers at a higher rate than non-descriptive ones. Does a descriptive logo fit your brand? Do you already have one? What if you don't? That's what we cover in this episode of Valor.

The messaging and communication of a company’s product should respond to the demographics of its customers. In marketing, this is known as differentiation. Organizations that do not differentiate the communication or messaging of their products risk being too broad or uninformed of their market needs.
Having a detailed description of your ideal client’s demographics will focus on your marketing and sales strategies. Your messaging and communication will be more effective because you deeply understand your ideal customer. It will also uncover necessary places for your brand to differentiate, allowing the successful expansion into new markets. Roar clarifies and focuses on an existing Target Market Profile’s demographics to better determine messaging and communication to ideal clients.

Your uniqueness is how your brand will drive its differentiation and segmentation strategies in a world constantly competing for your customers’ attention. Companies that find it challenging to communicate their value proposition to their ideal market risk only being average.
Businesses with a clear and focused Brand Positioning Statement can communicate their unique value proposition in their messaging, marketing, and retention strategy. Customers become raving fans because the business knew their needs and successfully provided them a solution. Roar guides businesses through the process of creating and evaluating their Brand Positioning statement.

Anyone can share in the experience of a pointless meeting. Unfortunately, leadership meeting agendas are rarely assessed for their effectiveness. At times they don’t seem necessary, nor do they focus on the business’s strategic initiatives.
Agendas communicate how organizations value the time of their leaders. When an organization chooses to gather its leadership, the time and effort to do so should honor the value the attendees create for the organization. Effective meetings are ones focused on strategic objectives while holding teams accountable for priority progress. Roar supports executive leaders to brand signature meeting processes that prioritize strategy and improvement.

With a good foundation built upon a compelling mission, inspiring vision, and strong cultural values, a business can really succeed, but without a solid strategic plan, companies will eventually experience organizational drift. Often strategic planning gets pushed to the side because of the day-to-day grind of making a business thrive.
A strategic plan is a sexton for navigating a business to achieve its goal. It is precise, clear and focused, and detailed enough to guide tactics. Companies with a regularly used strategic plan will be more agile and have a better sense of how to lead with the ‘right way’ seems challenging to see. Roar facilitates strategic agendas, conversations, and retreats to help leadership teams formalize a strategic plan and design the outcome to communicate it effectively across the organization.

Company values are used to create company culture. As businesses scale and bring on more employees or contractors, ‘fit’ has a lot to do with a new staff member’s growth and success. However, with scale, leaders can struggle to remember how influential company culture affects the bottom line.
Creating recruiting and onboarding opportunities for your staff centered around your values will set cultural expectations for employees and customers. These values can be huge drivers for making your brand relatable while offering a unique way to differentiate yourself from competitors.
Roar executes unique ways for brands to incorporate their values in recruiting and onboarding experiences.

Many companies define their values in their original business plan. But, unfortunately, sometimes the work of business distracts from the heart of its purpose. When core values aren’t defined, integrated, or visible, they can’t help your leadership create a culture that reflects your purpose to employees or customers.
Our recommendation is to assemble a focused team to assess your company’s culture based on your values. The best source of understanding how effective your values are in your business is to ask your employees and customers how they connect to them. Then, consider new ways to use your values in your office, presentations, company swag, proposals, and discovery sessions.
Roar has tools to help businesses refocus their values and create intentional ways for your employees and customers to engage with them through brand awareness, onboarding experiences, and collateral.

Being mission-driven is critical to a clear and focused business. If you are not using your mission to focus strategy or clarify priorities, it is possible you have outgrown your mission or your position has changed in the market.
