”The Big Thing” is a project funded by the European Union and developed by Asociacion Arkhe (Spain) in collaboration with Zavod ODTIZ (Slovenia) and VIEWS International. This project aims to promote greater inclusion of people with disabilities in youth work and non-formal education across Europe, particularly through the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programs. As part of this initiative, individuals with disabilities from Belgium, Slovenia, and Spain are taking part in a specialised training programme to become European trainers, following the ETS (European Training Strategy) competency model.

On this episode, we listen to the voices of Belgian participants. Two participants, Kinga and Ibrahim, alongside an accompanying person, Angélique, reflect on their experience with the project and recall their memories of the transnational training in Slovenia in July.
The three interviewees share their motivation to join “TheBig Thing”, what their favourite part was, what challenges they faced, the lessons learned, and what they will carry with them once the project is finished.

What is it like to be a European Solidarity Corps volunteer in Belgium? What are the challenges and what are the most rewarding experiences?
Jay and Mihai, who were with us in Liège, Belgium, between 2022 and 2023, guide us through their months as ESC volunteers, sharing info on their tasks and responsibilities, the main outtakes from their experience, and advice for those who would like to embark on this adventure.

Vreni is from Germany and she is 19 years old. She spent 9 month in Belgium volunteering in a school for blind and partially sighted. In this Episode she is unveiling her experience within the project.
