This episode features a conversation with my good friend and fellow photographer Gloria Caballero. Gloria is an independent artist focusing on portrait photography. She is originally from Mexico but she is based in Toronto, Canada. Gloria and I collaborated many times on each other’s photo shoots, which was very beneficial to keep the momentum going, especially on the beginning, or re-start of an artistic career.
In this episode we talked about balancing being a mother with pursuing a career in the arts, about getting inspiration from travel, about the role of graduate school for an artist, and setting up conditions where you just have to do the work.

The Wanderings Podcast is back! After a long hiatus, I am releasing a new episode featuring an interview with Iana Komarnytska. Iana is probably the most influential person on me becoming an artist and, maybe most importantly, choosing to keep being one. She also happens to be my wife, which gives a funny dynamic for this conversation.
We talked about her journey in the world of belly dance, folkloric dances of the Near east and the spread of these art forms through the West.

In this episode of The Wanderings Podcast, Pedro Bonatto talks to Viktoria Muzzatti about her art work.
Viktoria Muzzatti is a Canadian visual artist focusing on painting and drawing taking inspiration from nature, literature, fantasy and mythological stories.
In this episode we talk about the process of making art, balancing family and creativity and taking inspiration from mythological themes, from fairies in the woods to magical foxes. I highly recommend you check out her instagram @ladytor and see her artwork to put some visual context to what we talk about in this interview.
I met Viktoria about 5 years ago when I was going through a big transformation in my life, and she certainly helped me navigate those turbulent and exciting times, and her aesthetics and interests have influenced some of my current fine art photography projects.

In this episode of the Wanderings Podcast we will explore an ancient astronomical device called The Astrolabe. The astrolabe was used for centuries for navigation and as a way to tell the time, before watches, satellites and phones were invented. Astrolabes are objects of great beauty and craftsmanship, and they were the perfect combination of astronomical knowledge, artistic expression and practical application for everyday life. If you are familiar with my work, astrolabes were the inspiration for my first ever fine art photograph and you can hear more about that on episode 10 of the podcast and on my vlog on youtube.
To talk about this object that connected the earth and the sky, my guest is Pierre Paquette, an amateur astronomer with over 30 years of experience. He is an Astronomy Ambassador with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Editor of Astronomie-Québec magazine, and he works on a cool project with National Geographic ObservÉtoiles, the first-ever open-sky augmented-reality planetarium in the world, located close to Montreal. Paquette discovered his passion for ancient astronomical instruments in 2014, and since then has been making his own astrolabes.

In this episode of the Wanderings Podcast we’ll wander through forgotten traditions of Ukraine, and how one man is working to bring them back to life.
My guest is Jurij Fedynskyj, a musician, researcher and instrument maker, who for decades has been reviving the lost music and spiritual tradition of the Kobzar. The kobzar were traveling musicians, storytellers and spiritual leaders, who for centuries went all around Ukraine spreading their art and wisdom.
With the rise of Stalin and the Soviet Union control over Ukraine, the kobzar were killed, their instruments destroyed, and their traditions almost forgotten. Almost. Jurij and his colleagues work to recreate lost traditional instruments, including the kobza, the bandura and the torban. We had a fascinating talk about his life in a small village in Ukraine and how Jurij is, in a very real way, bringing the kobzar tradition to the modern era.
A special thanks to Kosa Kolektiv in Toronto, Matti Palonen and Olenka Kleban for arranging this interview.
