  • We are back with our next edition of the WCPE Book Club. This month, we are looking at Wonder Woman: Historia from DC Comics. Released in 2021 and 2022, the three-issue series was written by Kelly Sue DeConnick with art from Phil Jimenez, Gene Ha, and Nicola Scott. We are given a fresh take on the origin of the Amazons and how Hippolyta came to be the Queen. We also get a fresh take on the story, with friend of the show Bill Schmidt sitting in with us for this discussion. Jerry and John are recording this on the road this weekend from Tremendicon. Tune in next week to get all the details about the con and whether we were able to get any cashew chicken. Stick around to the very end to find out about next month's selection for WCPE Book Club. Jerry has a colorful pick that harkens back to Marvel's Silver Age.

Be sure to check out Tremendicon.com for directions and tickets. Be sure to look for Jerry and John on the con floor this weekend, as well as hosting panels throughout the weekend. We will be discussing Wonder Woman Historia from DC Comics for our WCPE Book Club next week. Start reading this now so you can join in on the conversation. • We are two weeks away from discussing our next WCPE Book Club selection, Wonder Woman Historia from DC Comics. If you want to join us for that discussion, send us a note. Last week saw a surprise announcement from Kickstarter's credit card processor, Stripe. Turns out they no longer want to process purchases for items in the NSFW category. This has been a huge discussion all week, and has led to some interesting pushback. HOWEVER, after we recorded this episode, Kickstarter issued an apology and said they would continue moving forward with the mature projects. John and Jerry are headed to Tremendicon in Springfield, MO, for the last weekend of May. We will do a live podcast recording, host some panels, and represent the Hero Initiative as we always do. Swing through Springfield, get some cashew chicken, and see the guys. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Plus, Cullen has a new trivia question, and John has a look at last week's top ten books.

  • We are getting caught up after last week's Book Club discussion, and we are already working on next month's selection of Wonder Woman Historia from DC Comics. If you want to join us for that discussion, send us a note. A day after we recorded episode 618, we learned of the passing of writer Gerry Conway. Conway was part of the wave of new creators joining comics in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He quickly made his mark, taking over writing chores on Amazing Spider-Man from Stan Lee. Along the way, he helped co-create characters like the Punisher, Firestorm, Power Girl, Ms. Marvel, and many others. Is anyone getting mixed messages from Marvel Comics? A while back, a message went out from senior editorial that they were scaling back events, yet all of last week's Comic Giveaway Day books were intros to upcoming events in Avengers, X-Men, Spider-Man and Hulk. Jerrry finished season 2 of Daredevil and John is keeping up with The Boys. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Plus, Cullen has a new trivia question, and John has a look at last week's top ten books.

  • Journey with us to the early days of the concept called a mini-series. With four issues, writers and artists had the opportunity to explore characters and concepts that might not easily fit into an ongoing monthly title. For example, our choice for this month's book club is Hercules, the 1982 series from creator Bob Layton and Marvel Comics. Taking place some time in the future, Hercules is sent to space by his father, Zeus, to find humility. He may not find the humility, but he does save a kidnapped maiden, protect a planet from going missing, and drops some drugs into Galactus's wine glass. Sounds like a good read to us! Joining us for the book club this month is friend-of-the-podcast Don Leibold. If you haven't joined already, take a look at Don's group on Facebook, The Comic Book Panel. Stick around to the very end to find out about next month's selection for WCPE Book Club. Cullen has a modern choice from DC Comics' Black Label line.

  • It's another busy week in WCPEver studios. Buckle in and enjoy the ride this week. We are just a few days away from the 2026 Free Comic Book Day (a.k.a. Comic Giveaway Day for books being shipped by Penguin Random House)! Stop into your local comic shop this Saturday to get some free books, but don't forget to support your retailer and buy some books, too! We've been watching Daredevil and The Boys over the last week. And did you catch the Clayface trailer for the movie coming out in October? Next week, we will be doing our next WCPE Book Club, reading the 1982 Hercules series from Marvel Comics. Give this a read and tune in next week to hear our discussion. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. • It's another one of those weeks where we think we have nothing to talk about, and then we talk and talk for more than an hour. You're welcome! First and foremost, our thoughts are with artist Adam Hughes this week. Get better, sir! You still have hundreds, if not thousands, of variant covers to do. A new biography is coming out this summer focusing on a creator billed as "the greatest living comic book writer and artist." We take a look at the creator, list some pros and cons for that choice, and offer up a few alternatives. It was a rough week to be an editor at Marvel. Disappointing but not unexpected. Have you made your Free Comic Book Day plans yet? Come out to Independence and see Jerry and John at Clint's. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Plus, Cullen is back with a brand new trivia question, and John has a look at last week's top ten books.

  • Welcome back! We are all in the studio this week for our Planet Comicon wrap-up. We discuss what we did at the Hero Initiative table, how the panels went for us, and all of the good memories from the weekend. We all got to stop in at a variety of stores over the last week, picking up new comics and old books along the way. Of course, with everything going on with Planet, we are behind on some of our TV viewing. New episodes are coming out left and right for Daredevil, The Boys, and Darth Maul, among others. Give us a week and we will be back with some viewing updates. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Plus, Cullen is back with a brand new trivia question.

  • We are still in recovery mode from Planet Comicon at the end of March. We promise to get back into the studio next week, but we still want to share something with you this week. John stayed busy on the show floor, conducting some interviews with some of the many guests. Wait, you want to know which guests you might hear before you press play? Well, we are a full-service show at a self-service price. Could we interest you in conversations with Dan Mora, G. Willow Wilson, Leah Williams, Megan Levens, and Jason Hurley? Yep, you're going to listen! We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. Come back next week for a new trivia question,

  • So, what did everyone do last weekend? For the guys of the Worst Comic Podcast Ever, well, we manned the Hero Initiative table at Planet Comicon. We set up at Boulevard Brewery for a drink and draw fundraiser. We hosted five panels with the likes of Dan Mora, Adam Kubert, Paul Dini, Chris Claremont, and many more. We did a live podcast panel complete with guest artists. And somehow, we even made time to record our next Book Club episode! This time, we are travelling back to the mid-1980s as we revisit the Teen Titans for The Judas Contract, where the Titans discovered a traitor on their team, Jericho signs up for the team (see what I did there!), and Dick Grayson finally decides on a new costumed identity. Written by Marv Wolfman with art by George Perez, this is THE Teen Titans story to read. Recorded on the con floor, Jerry, John, and Cullen are joined by loyal listener Eric Haar as we dissect this storyline. Stick around to the very end to find out about next month's selection for WCPE Book Club. We return to the MCU, and we stick with a story from the 1980s, but it's set in the far future.

Coming to us from Chip Zdarsky and his friends, are we ready for a new Wizard Magazine? We are just 10 days away from Planet Comicon. Who are we going to see there? Come see us at the Hero Initiative table (#139) or attend our panels on Friday and Saturday. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics. • Look what Wednesday has given you! A brand-spankin' new episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! It's going to be a great day, as new comics are out today and you have Cullen, Jerry, and John to talk nerdy with for the next hour. The big book of the week has to have been DC KO #5, wrapping up the battle between Luthor Superman and Darkseid. And as much as this was an ending to the mini-series, it serves as a teaser for what DC Comics has planned for the rest of 2026. Shocking news out of the Pacific Northwest this week, as Mike Richardson was let go from Dark Horse Comics. While, on the face of it, that was a shock to many people in the industry, reading between the lines shows that this move was bound to happen. We just were not expecting it this week in this manner. Did you see the trailer for Lanterns coming later this year on HBO? We cannot wait to hear Kyle Chandler's southern drawl reciting the Green Lantern oath. The Beauty wrapped up season 1 over at FX/Hulu. Will there be a season 2? We are just two weeks away from Planet Comicon. We got some panel news to share with you, and we expect you to attend all of them. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics.

  • Welcome back, our friends, to the show that never ends! It's time for another WCPE Book Club. This month, we are looking at Marvel's The X-Men Vs. The Avengers from 1987. Written by Roger Stern* and drawn by Marc Silvestri*, this is the first major match-up between the two powerhouse teams. Sit back and enjoy the musings of Cullen, Jerry, and Earth-2 John (a.k.a. John Hilderbrand) as we pick through the details of this four-issue series, and reveal the behind-the-scenes battle behind issue #4. Stick around to the very end to find out about next month's selection for WCPE Book Club. We're going back to DC Comics, but sticking in the 1980s. Have no fear, as we would never betray you. • ComicsPro, the comic shop retailer network, held its annual meeting last week in Los Angeles. Many of the publishers used the opportunity to showcase new projects and announcements. DC led the way with some absolute - or should we say ABSOLUTE - book news that has everyone ready for more. Speaking of DC Comics, does the publisher have a flagship team book right now? It's an interesting debate, and the answer might be no. Give us a listen and let us know your thoughts. WCPE Book Club is next week. Be sure to read Avengers vs. X-Men from 1987 before next week's show. Drop us a line if you would like to sit in on the recording this weekend. Don't panic, but Planet Comicon is coming up soon. You'll find us on the show floor staffing the Hero Initiative table. Be sure to make plans to attend our panel on Saturday night. • After last week's Book Club discussion on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, it's time to get back to talking about comics, TV shows, and the other nerdy topics our wives are tired of hearing us talk about. You're welcome! The new Wonder Man series dropped on Disney+ at the end of January. We have all watched it, mostly loved it, and have lots of thoughts to share on Simon and Trevor. John got caught up on The Beauty over on FX/Hulu. People, you need to be watching this show. Heck, you can get your significant others to watch it, too. Just don't mention right away that it's based on a comic book from friends Jeremy Haun and Jason Hurley. Kevin Maguire was in the news over at Bleeding Cool this past week. And then he was in the news again the next day. Listen in for the details! Don't panic, but Planet Comicon is coming up soon. • Every year, it feels like January is 45 days long - it just goes on and on and on, which means that you had plenty of time to read our selection for the WCPE Book Club. This month, we are looking at Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from 2022. Writer Tom King, artist Bilquis Evely, and colorist Matheus Lopes craft an amazing journey for Supergirl and her newfound companion, Ruthie, who is looking to avenge her father's death. For this discussion, we are joined by Eddie Iiams, who sat in with us last fall when we discussedThe Terrifics. Stick around to the very end to find out about next month's selection for WCPE Book Club. It's not exactly AvX, at least in terms of the number of issues, but you will get some fighting between the Avengers and the X-Men. We have our weekly Pick 3 choices, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics.
