  • Back for an extra-special, extra pride episode. You can listen to this complete Eva Le Gallienne deep dive with author and actor Barrie Kreinik on the You Might Know Her From Patreon. You’re gonna love this dig into backstage lore and OG celesbian gossip as we explore the oeuvre of American theatre icon Eva Le Gallienne. Here to break it down with us is Barrie Kreinik, whose new audio drama, The Queen of Fourteenth Street, digs into Le G’s robust stage credits, her dedication to creating an artistic institution of and for the people (the Civic Repertory Theatre), and her storied relationships with many an actor and socialite.

We originally discovered Le Gallienne when interviewing Kate Burton, who appeared in Le G’s ‘80s revival of Alice in Wonderland. We are so grateful for connecting with Barrie so we could explore American theatrical history through the lens of this queer trailblazer.

Happy Pride from an OG theatre queer. We love YOU and we love Le G!

  • I wasn’t in Speed! It’s Pride and we’re proud to be here with Veronica Cartwright. You Might Know Her From Alien, The Witches of Eastwick, The Birds, The Children's Hour, Will & Grace, The Right Stuff, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Inserts, and The X-Files. Veronica talked to us about her proper role in the queer canon byway of the Scissor Sisters, Jerry Herman, and StraightJacket; the trans retcon via James Cameron of Lambert in Alien; and her performance in the old Hollywood lesbian film The Children’s House opposite Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. And that’s just the beginning! We also got to dig into her iconic roles on The X-Files as an abductee in one of the scariest arcs of all time, her rubber-faced scene-stealing scenes in The Witches of Eastwick, working with Alfred Hitchock...multiple times, and her criminally underseen performance in Inserts. What a goddamn treat. And no, she wasn’t in Speed. Happy Pride, queerdos, we love you!

You Might Know Her From Palm Royale; Designing Women; Newhart; Looking; Baby Talk; The Mommie; Intolerable Cruelty; and Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker. She also gave us the scoop on playing Patrick’s mom on Looking (and the importance of playing mom to a queer person), her iconic run on Newhart (7 Emmy nominations!), and her ‘90s run as “Julia Duffy, sitcom saver” including joining the powerhouse female ensemble of Designing Women. We also got to chat about Julia’s book Bad Auditions, who was in those rooms with her, and what it was like playing a high school student at 30. Truly a treat!

  • This month we’re just wild about Siobhan Fallon Hogan. You Might Know Her From Men In Black, Forrest Gump, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, The House That Jack Built, Shelter in Solitude, Rushed, Holes, Seinfeld, and Saturday Night Live.

Siobhan gave us all the goods: from iconic dialect work in your favorite movies to her years-long collaborations with Lars von Trier. Siobhan spilled on doing bits while performing in Shakespeare in the Park, having fart competitions with Ben Gazzara on the set of Dogville, and getting horrifically killed by Matt Dillon in The House That Jack Built. We also got to talk about her turn as a screenwriter of two indie films: Rushed and Shelter in Solitude (both avail to stream now), and how her Catholic values inform all her work. A true delight from start to finish! Just feel better knowing that Lauren Bacall once asked, “Will we ever work again?” and know you are not alone! Love you mean it!

Also, please note we recorded this before we both texted each other “O.J. Simpson is dead!” so yeah, O.J. Simpson is dead and maybe we conjured it by talking about his acting and prison work.

  • Judy, Judy, Judy! We’re just mad about Judy Reyes. You Might Know Her From Birth/Rebirth, Claws, Scrubs, The Horror of Dolores Roach, Smile, Bringing out the Dead, One Day at a Time, and Devious Maids. We talk to Judy all about her Indie Spirit-nominated turn in the indie horror Birth/Rebirth which is a little Frankenstein, a little Thelma & Louise, a little Whatever Happened to Baby Jane–we highly recommend it! Judy takes us through the psychology of playing a grieving mother, acting opposite a child and a pig, and grounding the horror elements. Then, we dig deep into her oeuvre from playing Carla Espinosa for eight seasons on Scrubs to playing gay as Quiet Ann (no -e) in one of the best female ensembles on television on Claws. All that plus, coming in to elevate a horror flick like Smile, headlining the candy-coated Marc Cherry/Eva Longoria dark comedy Devious Maids, and forming a community with other Latina actors in this horrific (we hate but love it) industry. We love you.

  • Hello Therese, we’re back for our annual holiday extravaganza. This year we’re movie-clubbing Todd Haynes’ very luscious and very gay Carol (2015), starring Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, and Sarah Paulson. We discuss the erotic imagery of merely a glove, lesbian sex scenes through the lens of a gay man, and the joy in watching flat male characters (what even IS Jake Lacy’s character’s name?). All that Carol talk for you plus our reactions to the Golden Globe nominations, our dream casting of Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone as Pearl Bailey and Carol Channing in a future film, and some Muppet talk. And then…we give you a solid ten minutes on our theory that gay men hate all gay male things while lesbians are much more accepting, our trip down memory lane to remember “lesbian kiss episodes” during November sweeps, the legacy of Roseanne, and Natalie Zea hunting down Kimberly Pierce for the Boys Don’t Cry short she starred in! Anyway, happy holidays! Do you think Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert watched Carol together?

  • And we’re back! Folks, after over 5 months of actress-less episodes, we are finally back with the iconic Lea Salonga. You Might Know Her From Aladdin, Mulan, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, and Broadway productions of Here Lies Love, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, and Flower Drum Song. Lea was the coolest and gave us all the behind-the-scenes scoop on her Tony-winning turn as Kim in Miss Saigon, Madame Thenardier and the Broadway hat trick we hope to live to see, and whether playing Mouse’s mom is a play on her legend status with the House of Mouse. All that plus, auditioning as both Jasmine and Fa Mulan, the secret Les Mis chorus track (and did Patti Lupone do it?), and her favorite drag queens. Anne and Damian, we twin flames writing this, are just pleased as ever to be back and interviewing actresses. Thanks for being along for the ride and please know that glycolic acid can also be applied under the armpits to stop odor and it works.

  • Hooray! SAG has come to a tentative agreement and the strike has finally ended! We are celebrating by answering listener-submitted questions! But first, we talk about Barbra Streisand’s new memoir, her sister Roslyn Kind, and what it must be like to be related to such an otherworldly entertainer. Then, we dig into your questions and we get into it all from the Mount Rushmore of past guests to the love triangle between Ashlyn Harris, Ali Krieger, and Sophia Bush to our educated guess on the vibe of the Desperate Housewives set from all the “research” we’ve conducted. This was just a total pleasure so we hope you’ll sit your sassy and strong-willed selves down and listen with us! Next episode we’re back with an actress!

  • What if we had a Patreon? That’s what we’re exploring this week as we continue to stand in solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. In lieu of a new actor interview we’re book clubbing 1979’s Norma Rae starring Sally Field, Beau Bridges, and Ron Leibman. Norma Rae is inspired by the real story of mill workers unionizing in rural North Carolina. We get into all the important parts: Ron Leibman being hot, Burt Reynolds advising Sally not to do the film, and the beautiful appearance of legendary character actress Grace Zabriskie in a small role. The film is a small quiet human story about the importance of labor unions and it felt like the right time to correct our blindspot and screen it. Also discussed this episode: the Debra Winger-Barbra Hershey led film A Dangerous Woman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mandy Patinkin vs. Toni Collette.

  • We are back and still holding strong with SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, so no new actress interview, but we are joined by Emmy-winning actor and President of the Los Angeles Local branch of SAG-AFTRA, Jodi Long. You Might Know Her From Shang-Chi, Dash & Lily, All-American Girl, and season 4 of this podcast! Jodi breaks down the SAG strike and spells out what the union is fighting for, the threat to the working class, and what she'll treat herself to when this is all over. Why are screen actors (SAG-AFTRA) and screen writers (WGA) striking?

AMPTP is the negotiating organization for the Hollywood studios

Jodi Long was full-body scanned on Shang Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings. They own that image in perpetuity.

Reality shows are a different contract and not part of the current SAG-AFTRA

CEO salaries in 2022 for huge networks averaged $32M for 13 CEOas across 12 companies

Actors have to make $26k+ in order to qualify for health insurance (only 12% of SAG-AFTRA actors make that every year)

Hollywood studio CEOS are tonedeaf: Disney CEO Bob Iger / Warner Brothers CEO, David Zaslav

AMPTP hired a new PR person to change the public narrative

Movie studio A24 has agreed to all of SAG-AFTRA’s terms, so they are currently in production while other studios are not

Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey and others are working on waivers because their production companies have met SAG-AFTRA’s demands

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher’s call to arms

We love pie: ALR-key lime, cherry, blueberry / DB-Banana cream, strawberry rhubarb, pumpkin

    Domino’s song “Sweet Potato Pie”
