In this gripping conclusion, we delve deeper into the tragic story of Roxanne Hayes, a devoted mother whose life was cut short by a system that failed to protect her. We explore her beautiful, full life, her unwavering devotion to her children, and the choices she made, refusing to let her work define her.
This episode also examines the wider legal and societal context, including “Aimee’s Law”, enacted in 2000 after the brutal murder of college student Aimee Willard by a man previously convicted of murder. We discuss how this law, aimed at protecting victims from repeat offenders, relates to Roxanne’s case and the shocking lapses that allowed her killer, Larry Singleton, to remain free.
We also take an in-depth look at Singleton himself; his history, possible diminished capacities, and even the unsettling speculation around the possibility of him being a serial predator. With our candid Armchair Speculation, we piece together the patterns, behaviors, and theories that haunt those who study his crimes.
Roxanne Hayes’s story is more than tragedy; it’s a window into systemic failure, a testament to a life lived fully despite adversity, and a reminder of the lives lost when warning signs go ignored.

This is one of the most brutal cases we have covered!!! Do we have your attention now? On June 7, 1998, James Byrd, Jr. was walking home and was spotted by a truck full of white supremacists in Jasper County, Texas. What followed was fueled entirely by racial hatred and involved some of the most unspeakable and gruesome details you've ever heard.

Happy Pride Everyone!!! We hope that you all feel loved and proud all month, and all year long. For the third and final case of our 2023 Pride Special, Emilio and Brooke cover a lot of queer history, stretching all the way back to the American 1940s, and crossing coast to coast, hitting its apex with the Stonewall Riots in 1969 New York City (did you also hear that in Angel's voice from Rent? Center of the universe!). This one highlights many vital people to the movement and some of the physical landmarks associated with gay rights! We had a ton of fun researching and recording this one, and we hope you loved it too!

Happy Pride Everyone!!! We hope that you all feel loved and proud all month and all year long. For the second case of our Pride Month special, Brooke and Emilio cover the life and mysterious death of Marsha P. Johnson (she said the P stood for "pay it no mind", and we absolutely stan that). We cover a little bit of old New York history, the history of the gay rights movement, and an essential WOMAN (because transwomen are women) who helped elevate the lives of queers everywhere. We hope this case reminds you just how important it is to be yourself and allow everyone around you to do the same!

Happy Pride Everyone!!! We hope that you all feel loved and proud all month and all year long. In this episode, listen to Emilio and Brooke tell the story of Matthew Shepard, a young man who was murdered in Laramie, Wyoming, by acquaintances because he was gay and they were hateful. In the second and final episode of our series on Matthew Shepard, Emilio Ybarra, and Brooke Bovier will take you through the trial and aftermath of Matthew's murder. We truly admire the strength and perseverance of Matthew's parents, Dennis and Judy, for turning their son's horrific murder into an opportunity to protect those who could also be targeted for their sexuality or gender identity.

Happy Pride Everyone!!! We hope that you all feel loved and proud all month, and all year long. In this episode, listen to Emilio Ybarra and Brooke Bovier tell the story of Matthew Shepard, a young man who was murdered in Laramie, Wyoming by acquaintances simply because he was gay and they were hateful. This first episode in a two-part series tells of Matthew's life, how he came to know his attackers and the night of his murder. It is a heartbreaking tale that shows us why it is so important to raise our kids in the right way so that they are not hateful towards people different from them.

Ok... we LOVE Chicago! But we don't love fires in Chicago! In this episode, Emilio Ybarra and Brooke Bovier discuss an arson-for-profit case that tragically took the lives of three firefighters and just so happened in Brooke's neighborhood, but long before either of your hosts was born. Our advice after this case: don't keep the extra bottles of accelerant when you commit arson.

All we're saying is that we have many questions and no one is willing to answer them. Except for Lana. Which is why we love her. Listen to Emilio Ybarra and Brooke Bovier discuss the facts and theories of the Natalie Wood case and her illustrious career that led her to be on that yacht, The Splendour, that night. Christopher Walken, we'd really like to talk to you, sir.

Surprise! To prevent our episodes from reaching gargantuan proportions (over 2 hours), we decided to siphon off this extra discussion of Casey Anthony's "documentary" Where the Truth Lies on Peacock into a separate episode! Listen to Brooke Bovier and Emilio Ybarra discuss the issues they found with Casey's stories and get very upset. We are not endorsing her, but as this release has propelled a lot of discussions, and is the inspiration for covering this case at this time, we thought it was important to cover the 3-episode series. But we promise we're done talking about Caylee and Casey... for now!

It's all too uncommon that tragedy takes place, but when legislators pass a bill aimed at protecting those affected by similar future disasters, a more significant impact is made on the world. In our first BONUS EPISODE, Emilio Ybarra and Brooke Bovier discuss HB (House Bill) 37, which originated from a petition by Michelle Crowder on Change.org and caught the attention of legislators within 24 hours. "Caylee's Law would make it a felony for guardians who make delays in reporting the death or disappearance of a child." (Change.org)
