Joxean Fernández, director de la Filmoteca Vasca y miembro de loscomités de dirección y selección del Festival de San Sebastián, es el anfitrión de este episodio especial de Zinemaldia Podcast dedicado a Klasikoak. Bajo esa nueva marca nace una especie de festival de cine clásico extendido en el tiempo y el espacio que agrupa tres programas que ya existían: el ciclo de primavera de la Filmoteca, la retrospectiva clásica del Festival y su sección Klasikoak. Las voces invitadas al podcast son Valeria Camporesi, directora de la FilmotecaEspañola; Quim Casas y Felipe Cabrerizo, coordinadores de la retrospectiva sobre el poliziesco, el cine policiaco italiano; y el cineasta Montxo Armendáriz, cuya película ‘Tasio’ (1984) acaba de ser restaurada por la Filmoteca Vasca 40 años después de su estreno y tras mostrarse en Cannes Classics inaugurará la sección Klasikoak del Festival.

Joxean Fernández, director of the Basque Film Archive and member of the San Sebastian Festival's management and selection committees, hosts this special episode of the Zinemaldia podcast dedicated to Klasikoak. Under this new brand, a kind of classical film festival was born, extended in time and space, bringing together three pre-existing programmes: the Basque Film Arcive’s Spring season, the Festival classic retrospective and its Klasikoak section. El 29 de septiembre de 2023, dentro de las Conversaciones de la 71ª edición del Festival de San Sebastián, Artur Tort charló en la sala de cine de Tabakalera sobre su labor como director de fotografía y montador. Tort trabaja habitualmente con el cineasta Albert Serra y su última colaboración, Tourment sur les îles / Pacifiction (2022), le valió el Premio César a la mejor fotografía.
2023ko irailaren 29an, Donostia Zinemaldiaren 71. edizioan antolatutako hizketaldien barruan, Artur Tort argazkigintza-eta muntaketa-lanari buruz mintzatu zen Tabakalerako zinema-aretoan. On 29 September 2023, as part of the film talks of the 71st San Sebastian Festival, Artur Tort spoke at the Tabakalera cinema about his work as a cinematographer and editor. Tort works regularly with filmmaker lbert Serra, and their last collaboration, Tourment sur les îles / Pacifiction (2022), earned him the César Award for Best Cinematography.

En el marco de la 71ª edición del Festival de San Sebastián, el 28 de septiembre de 2023 se realizó en la Sala Z de Tabakalera el encuentro Vestida de azul: Memoria y activismo trans en el Festival de 1983. Sirvió para celebrar, por un lado, el 40º aniversario del estreno en el Festival de Vestida de azul (1983), un documental de Antonio Giménez Rico que recoge las experiencias de mujeres trans durante la Transición, y por otro, el estreno de la segunda temporada de la serie Veneno, basada en aquel filme. En la cita participaron el activista Julen Zabala, el guionista Ian de la Rosa, la actriz Lola Rodríguez y Nacha, una de las seis mujeres trans que protagonizaron Vestida de azul.

As part of the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Festival, the meeting Vestida de azul: Trans Memory and activism at the 1983 Festival was held in the Tabakalera’s Z Room . The event celebrated, on the one hand, the 40th anniversary of the premiere at the San Sebastian Festival of Vestida de azul (1983), a documentary by Antonio Giménez Rico that follows the experiences of transgender women during the Spanish Transition and, on the other, the imminent arrival of the second season of the series Veneno, based on said film. The event was attended by activist Julen Zabala, screenwriter Ian de la Rosa, actress Lola Rodríguez and Nacha, one of the six trans women protagonists of Vestida de Azul.

El 26 de septiembre de 2023, en el marco de la 71ª edición del Festival de San Sebastián, la sala Z de Tabakalera albergó una conversación de Deborah Williams sobre el valor de la diversidad en el sector audiovisual. Williams es directora ejecutiva de Creative Diversity Network y lleva más de 30 años trabajando en televisión, cine y teatro, así como en el desarrollo de políticas en las industrias culturales y creativas en general; fue ella quien diseñó los estándares de diversidad del BFI y el proceso de análisis de igualdad del Arts Council England.

On 26 September, as part of the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Festival, Tabakalera’s Z Room hosted a film talk by Deborah Williams on the value of diversity in the audiovisual sector. Williams is Executive Director at Creative Diversity Network and has been working for more than 30 years in television, cinema and the theatre, as well as on policy design in the cultural and creative industries in general; she designed the BFI diversity standards and the equality analysis process at the Arts Council England.

El 25 de septiembre de 2023 tuvo lugar en la sala de cine de Tabakalera el encuentro de las y los estudiantes de Nest con Christian Petzold, el cineasta alemán que compitió en la Sección Oficial con Phoenix (2014) y logró el Premio FIPRESCI. En su regreso a San Sebastián en la 71ª edición, no sólo presentó en Perlak la película Roter Himmel / Afire (El cielo rojo) tras ganar el Gran Premio del Jurado en la Berlinale, sino que también ejerció de miembro del Jurado Oficial.
2023ko irailaren 25ean, Nesteko ikasleak Christian Petzoldekin elkartu ziren Tabakalerako zinema-aretoan. Zinemagile germaniarra Phoenix (2014) filmarekin lehiatu zen Sail Ofizialean eta FIPRESCI saria eskuratu zuen. 71. edizioan Donostiara itzuli zen eta Berlinalen Epaimahaiaren Sari Nagusia irabazi zuen Roter Himmel / Afire filma Perlak sailean aurkezteaz gain, epaimahai ofizialeko kide ere izan zen.
On 25 September 2023, the Nest students met at the Tabakalera cinema with Christian Petzold, the German filmmaker who was in the Official Selection with Phoenix (2014) and won the FIPRESCI Award. Returning to San Sebastian for the 71st edition, he not only presented his film Red Sky / Afire in the Perlak section, after winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlinale. He was also a member of the Official Jury.

El jueves 28 de septiembre de 2023 la cineasta mexicana Lila Avilés ofreció una clase magistral en la sala de cine de Tabakalera tras la proyección de su segundo largometraje, Tótem, incluido en la sección Horizontes Latinos tras haber competido en la pasada Berlinale. Avilés presentó en New Directors su primera película, La camarista / The Chambermaid (2018), y este año ha sido presidenta del jurado del Premio Nest The Mediapro Studio de la 71ª edición del Festival de San Sebastián.

On 28 September 2023, Mexican filmmaker Lila Avilés gave a masterclass at the Tabakalera cinema after the screening of her second feature film, Tótem, which was part of the Horizontes Latinos section after competing at the last Berlinale. La directora estadounidense, que en 2018 participó con el cortometraje Nettles en Nest, regresó a San Sebastián para presentar en la 71ª edición su debut en el largometraje, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt. La película tuvo su estreno mundial en la sección U.S. Dramatic Competition de Sundance y en su fase de proyecto formó parte del programa de residencias Ikusmira Berriak.

On 26 September 2023, the Tabakalera Cinema hosted a masterclass by Raven Jackson. The American director, whoparticipated in Nest in 2018 with her short film Nettles, returned to San Sebastian to present her feature film debut, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt at the 71st edition of the Festival. The film had its world premiere in the US Dramatic Competition section at Sundance and was part of the Ikusmira Berriak residency programme during its project phase.

Minerva Campos, Violeta Kovacsics y Aida Vallejo son las tres nuevas investigadoras que estos días han disfrutado de la segunda convocatoria de las becas José Ángel Herrero-Velarde. Por un lado, Campos investiga la relación del Festival con la Federación Internacional de Asociaciones de Productores de Cine, la FIAPF; por otro, Kovacsics explora el cine de la Transición y los retos y dificultades que atravesaba en aquellos años el certamen donostiarra; y finalmente, Vallejo se centra en la historia sociocultural del Festival a través del análisis de los espacios en los que se desarrolla.

Minerva Campos, Violeta Kovacsics and Aida Vallejo are the three new researchers who have recently benefited from the second call for José Ángel Herrero-Velarde grants. On the one hand, Campos is researching the Festival's relationship with the International Federation of Film Producers' Associations, the FIAPF; on the other, Kovacsics is exploring the cinema of the Transition and the challenges and difficulties faced by the event in those years; and finally, Vallejo is focusing on the socio-cultural history of the Festival by analysing the spaces in which it is held.

Endika Rey, Neus Sabaté y Felipe Cabrerizo han pasado dos semanas en ARTXIBOA, el archivo del Festival de San Sebastián, trabajando en sus investigaciones. Son las tres primeras personas en beneficiarse de las becas José Ángel Herrero-Velarde, organizadas por el Festival de San Sebastián y Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, y promovidas por la Diputación de Gipuzkoa. En la primera convocatoria de las becas están investigando los trabajos de los nuevos directores que han pasado por el Festival, el cine de los países de la órbita socialista y el reencuentro de Josefina Molina, Pilar Miró y Cecilia Bartolomé en San Sebastián.

Endika Rey, Neus Sabaté and Felipe Cabrerizo spent two weeks at ARTXIBOA, the San Sebastian Festival archive, working on their research. They are the first three people to benefit from the José Ángel Herrero-Velarde grants, organized by the San Sebastian Festival and the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, and promoted by Gipuzkoa Provincial Council. In the first call for submissions, they are researching the work of new directors who have taken part in the Festival, cinema in the sphere of socialist countries and the reunion between Josefina Molina, Pilar Miró and Cecilia Bartolomé in San Sebastian.

Antxon Eceiza fue crítico de cine e importante representante de la corriente Nuevo Cine Español; tuvo distintas responsabilidades en el Festival de San Sebastián; produjo la serie documental ‘Ikuska’ y dirigió, entre otras películas, ‘Ke arteko egunak’; fue pionero del cine hecho en euskera, director y activista al mismo tiempo… Pero doce años después de su muerte, el donostiarra continúa vinculado a la etiqueta de director ‘maldito’. ¿Por qué? En este episodio trataremos de dar respuesta a esa y otras cuestiones junto a Maialen Beloki, subdirectora del Festival; Irati Crespo, compañera del Archivo, y Beñat Sarasola, investigador y profesor. Para ello, han elegido tres objetos del archivo personal de Eceiza custodiado en la Filmoteca Vasca.
Antxon Eceiza was a film critic and an important representative of the New Spanish Cinema movement; he had different responsibilities at the San Sebastian Festival; he produced the documentary series 'Ikuska' and directed, among other films, 'Ke arteko egunak'; he was a pioneer of films made in Basque, director and activist at the same time... But twelve years after his death, the San Sebastian-born filmmaker is still linked to the label of 'cursed' director. Why? In this episode we will try to answer this and other questions with Maialen Beloki, deputy director of the Festival; Irati Crespo, a colleague from the Archive, and researcher and teacher Beñat Sarasola. To do so, they have chosen three objects from Eceiza's personal archive held at the Basque Film Archive.

Lucrecia Martel bezalako zuzendarien lanari lotuta egon den idazle eta gidoilari argentinarra New Directorseko epaimahaikide izan zen Donostia Zinemaldiaren 70. edizioan.
In collaboration with the Literaktum Festival of Donostia Kultura, the Okendo cultural centre hosted a conversation on 19 September 2022 on the relationship between film and literature with Selva Almada. The Argentinian writer and screenwriter, who has worked alongside directors such as Lucrecia Martel, was a member of the New Directors jury at the 70th San Sebastian Festival.

La creación sonora para el cine fue la protagonista de la charla que tuvo lugar en la sala de cine de Tabakalera el 22 de septiembre de 2022. La cita, organizada por Pensamiento y Debate en colaboración con BIME, consistió en una conversación entre el compositor, productor de música electrónica y cineasta Jean-Baptiste de Laubier (Para One) y la música y compositora Aránzazu Calleja, que ejerció de moderadora.
Zinemarako soinu-sorkuntza izan zen 2022ko irailaren 22an Tabakalerako zinema-aretoan egin zen saioko protagonista. Hitzordua Pentsamendua eta Eztabaidak antolatu zuen BIMErekin elkarlanean, eta Jean-Baptiste de Laubier (Para One) konpositore, musika elektronikoaren ekoizle eta zinemagilearen eta Aránzazu Calleja musikari eta konpositorearen arteko hizketaldia izan zen (Callejak moderatzaile lanak egin zituen).
The creation of sound for films was the subject of the session celebrated on 22 September 2022 at the Tabakalera cinema. The event, organised by the Thought and Discussion area in collaboration with BIME, consisted of a conversation between the composer, electronic music producer and filmmaker Jean-Baptiste de Laubier (Para One) and the musician and composer Aránzazu Calleja, who was the moderator.

The Austrian filmmaker Ruth Beckermann gave a masterclass at the 70th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival after the screening of her latest feature movie, Mutzenbacher, included in Zabaltagi-Tabakalera after winning the Encounters section at the Berlinale. La productora Ariadna Dot y Giovanni Pompili, productor y coordinador de Torino Green Lab, conversaron sobre la sostenibilidad medioambiental de los rodajes y la producción cinematográfica a partir del caso de una película que han producido juntos, Alcarràs, de Carla Simón, ganadora del Oso de Oro de la Berlinale y programada en Made in Spain. La conversación tuvo lugar en la sala de cine de Tabakalera el 20 de septiembre de 2022, dentro de las actividades de Pensamiento y Debate de la 70 edición del Festival de San Sebastián.

The producer Ariadna Dot and Giovanni Pompili, producer and coordinator of the Torino Green Lab, discussed the environmental sustainability of film shootings and production based on the case study of a film they co-produced, Carla Simón’s Alcarràs, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale and programmed in Made in Spain. The film talk took place at the Tabakalera cinema on September 20, 2022, as part of the Thought and Discussion activities of the 70th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Isabel Coixet presentó en la 70 edición del Festival de San Sebastián su película El sostre groc (El techo amarillo), incluida fuera de concurso dentro de las Proyecciones Especiales de la Sección Oficial. La cineasta catalana también protagonizó una conversación organizada por el área Pensamiento y Debate en colaboración con DAMA, un encuentro que tuvo lugar en la sala de cine de Tabakalera el 19 de septiembre de 2022.
Isabel Coixetek El sostre groc / The Yellow Ceiling filma lehiaketatik kanpo aurkeztu zuen Donostia Zinemaldiaren 70. edizioan, Sail Ofizialeko Emanaldi Berezien barruan. Zinemagile kataluniarra Pentsamendua eta Eztabaida arloak DAMArekin elkarlanean antolatutako hizketaldi batean ere izan zen. Topaketa Tabakalerako zinema aretoan izan zen, 2022ko irailaren 19an.

El 19 de septiembre de 2022, durante la celebración de la 70 edición del Festival de San Sebastián, la sala de cine de Tabakalera acogió una clase magistral de Elena López Riera dentro de las actividades del área Pensamiento y Debate. La cineasta española también presentó su debut en el largometraje, El agua / The Water, que en su fase de proyecto participó en el programa de residencias Ikusmira Berriak. La película, que se estrenó en la Quincena de Cineastas de Cannes, fue después incluida en la sección Zabaltegi-Tabakalera.
2022ko irailaren 19an, Donostia Zinemaldiaren 70. edizioan, Elena López Rierak eskola magistrala eman zuen Tabakalerako zinema aretoan, Pentsamendua eta Eztabaida arloko jardueren barruan. Zinemagile espainiarrak El agua / The Water bere estreinako film luzea ere aurkeztu zuen. Proiektu-fasean, Ikusmira Berriak egoitza-programan parte hartu zuen lanak. Filma Cannesko Errealizadoreen Hamabostaldian estreinatu zen, eta gero Zabaltegi-Tabakalera sailean sartu zen.
On September 19, 2022, during the celebration of the 70th edition of the San Sebastian Festival, the Tabakalera cinema hosted a master class by Elena López Riera as part of the activities of the Thought and Discussion area. The Spanish filmmaker also presented her feature debut, El agua / The Water, which participated in the Ikusmira Berriak residency program at its project stage. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight, was later included in the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section.

La directora afgana Shahrbanoo Sadat ofreció una clase magistral el 21 de septiembre de 2021 en la sala Z de Tabakalera en el marco de la 69 edición del Festival de San Sebastián. La conversación con la cineasta versó sobre los desafíos que afronta una directora en Afganistán y sobre el propio cine de su país. La película de debut de Sadat, Wolf and Sheep (2016), fue seleccionada y premiada en la Quincena de Realizadores de Cannes, al igual que su segundo filme, la secuela The Orphanage (2019), también galardonada.
Shahrbanoo Sadat zuzendari afganiarrak klase magistrala eman zuen 2021eko irailaren 21ean Tabakalerako Z aretoan, Donostia Zinemaldiaren 69. edizioaren baitan. Solasaldian, emakumezko zuzendari batek Afganistanen dituen erronkei buruz eta baita bere herrialdeko zinemagintzari buruz hitz egin zuen. Sadaten lehenbiziko filma, Wolf and Sheep (2016), Cannesko Quinzaine des Réalisateurs-en saritua izan zen, baita The Orphanage (2019) bere bigarren filma ere.
Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat gave a masterclass on 21 September 2021 in Tabakalera’s Z Room, as part of the 69th edition of the San Sebastian Festival. The conversation focused on the challenges faced by a female director in Afghanistan and on her country’s cinema. Wolf and Sheep (2016), Sadat’s debut film, was selected and awarded at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight. Its sequel, The Orphanage, was also an award winner (2019).
