What is it you need to get back to your ideal, abundant life? Pastor Jon takes us through the 4th chapter of Lamentations - arguably the most difficult part - to understand what Israel once had and lost because of God's judgement of their idolatry. But the Good News doesn't stop there. God provided a rescue from exile, back into abundant life, through Jesus's sacrifice that rescues us from the penalty of our sins because of the mercy of God.

What do you do when grief becomes cyclical, fear feels overwhelming, and God’s redemption feels distant? This message from Lamentations 3 explores how to grieve honestly with God instead of suffering alone.
-
Post-modern living can cause us to wonder what is real and what is just a passing fancy. What can we depend on that won't disappoint us? Pastor Jon examines how Lamentations demonstrates the eternal hope we have in God's love, God who loves us despite our brokenness. His love is not contingent on us, but it never fails because of his unstoppable faithfulness. Even in the midst of struggle and doubt, God remains the real, just, unshifting truth upon which we can build our lives.

Every one of us struggles through some really dark times. Pastor Angela works through the next chapter of Lamentations to remind us that God's people sometimes suffer because they walk away from him, but that through Jesus's sacrifice, we have a way back. It reminds us that honest prayer is key to suffering well, taking our pain and discouragement to Jesus, even as we are formed by the wait for his rescue.
-
Today's world is full of anxiety and hopelessness with seemingly no trustworthy source of comfort. In this new sermon series, Pastor Jon stars our look at Lamentations, one of the most overlooked books of the Bible, unpacking its historical context, and looking at how Christians can express an honest Kingdom form of grief, complaint, and hope in our unchanging, loving God. The first real step Jon counsels us through is the discipline of confession.

Sometimes it feels impossible to tell what is truly authentic and trustworthy these days. Who or what are we supposed to trust to help us make decisions? On this Easter Sunday, Pastor Jon looks at John 4 and Jesus's interaction with the woman at the well. As Jesus said to the woman, he has something for us we can't find elsewhere. He offers a loving and sustaining help that will meet us in all our struggles: the true healing of the gracious gift of Jesus's love and forgiveness.

Love them or hate them, your family is one of the biggest influences on your entire life. In a challenging and important sermon, Pastor Jon takes a careful look at how the expectations of your family - especially around their reputation - can take over your identity, instead of finding your identity in Christ as a member of his kingdom first.
-
Everyone looks for meaning and purpose in their lives, but we don't all find it. Pastor Jon looks examines Acts 17 and Paul's message in idolatrous Athens to explore how we can be seduced by false gospels, and what the real Gospel of Jesus Christ says. Like the Athenians, need to repent and turn from the ideas of appeasement, comfort, and self-sufficiency, to find our purpose in our loving creator God and know true rest and peace.

Sometimes something looks really attractive lures us in but turns out to be very bad for us. Pastor Jon looks at how pleasures that promise ungodly pleasure, attention, and illicit wisdom will distract us away from the truth of the Gospel that keeps us focused on Jesus. When we replace the true Gospel with self-gratification, we are headed for disaster; the good news is that when we repent and return to Christ, we find rescue and true satisfaction.

Are you good enough? Do you follow all the rules you feel will make you spiritual enough, holy enough, and Christian enough? To start the new mini-series, The Gospel According to Jesus's Enemies, Pastor Angela looks at Jesus's teaching in Mark 2 and unpacks how the Pharisees of Jesus's time believed that they were holy because they followed the rules - and the rules about the rules - better than anyone else. But Jesus taught that we are incapable of meeting God's standards on our own, and that it is only by receiving Jesus's loving sacrifice that we can be righteous. We must stop performing, stop judging ourselves according to human standards, and instead draw closer to our saviour to be able to co-labour with him in this kingdom-building exercise.

Prayer is talking to God, a conversation, between a loving God and his loving children. But how do we get started? Pastor Lucas takes us on the next step as we as a church cultivate a culture of prayer. We are invited to decide to pray, to make it a discipline, which creates a desire for a life of prayer, and that will lead us to the good gifts God has destined for us.
-
Do you find prayer difficult? You're not alone. Pastor Jon kicks off the first teaching of Plan 3 by looking at the existing culture of prayer in Sanctus Church, and outlining where we want to develop it next. He digs into what prayer itself can look like, and how we will develop our gifts and disciplines to become people who pray without ceasing in a Kingdom way.

We all feel it. The world these days feels shaky, scary, shifting, and uncertain. In this last week of our walk through Jesus's Sermon on the Mount, Pastor Jon explores the reassuring words of our Judge, Lord, and Saviour, who promises that no matter what storms we face, he is a firm and eternal foundation we can depend on without fail. Jesus' assurances don't just stand in this life, but he will stand as our advocate when we are ultimately judged by our Creator if we surrender our lives to his power and kingdom.
