The global surgical robotics market is ~$15B, and is still just getting started (it has been mainly a single-player market for the past two decades). SSII's combination of ~30% price differentiation, multispecialty capabilities (including cardiac), telesurgery enablement, and efficient manufacturing positions it to capture incremental TAM in ambulatory centers and smaller U.S./EU hospitals, as well as the 7B+ patients around the world who don't have access to the Intuitive system.

Intel surged in late trading after the chipmaker’s revenue forecast shattered estimates, indicating that booming data center spending is helping fuel a long-awaited turnaround. Sales will be $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion in the third quarter, the company said Thursday in a statement. Even the low end of that range would easily clear the $15.1 billion average analyst estimate.

The Magnificent Seven group of megacap technology stocks is on track for its biggest one-day drop since the tariff tantrum in April 2025 due to results from Alphabet Inc. and Tesla Inc. The Bloomberg Magnificent 7 Index was down 4.8% midway through Thursday’s session, wiping out roughly $767 billion in market valuation, with declines led by Tesla and Alphabet. Investors are growing cautious about the massive sums that Big Tech firms are spending to build out their AI infrastructure, with the index now down 11% from a record hit in late May, erasing $2 trillion in market value.

Alphabet reported second-quarter cloud revenue that far surpassed Wall Street’s expectations and said the division’s backlog of contracted business ballooned to more than $500 billion, offering fresh evidence that the company’s massive AI investments are paying off.
Meanwhile, Tesla missed Wall Street’s profit expectations even after a strong quarter of auto sales, a setback for the electric-vehicle maker as it looks to build out new lines of business in robotics, autonomy and AI.

America is at risk of relinquishing its global leadership in biopharmaceuticals. Haphazard cuts to funding academic research, political attacks on science and misguided threats to the risk-reward calculus that buttresses innovation undermine our strategic preeminence in healthcare and medicines. At the same time, China is advancing its own agenda. If the United States’ biotech strategy is not acutely resuscitated, we risk depriving our nation of the oxygen that fuels biomedical entrepreneurship, economic vitality, and ultimately national security.

US President Donald Trump minimized the prospect of immediate talks with Iran as the two sides exchanged strikes and Houthi militants in Yemen threatened shipping in the Red Sea.
Trump vowed on Tuesday to respond if the Iran-backed group disrupted that waterway, but didn’t specify how.His comments came after the 10th day of US and Iranian attacks and as mediators continued efforts to restart negotiations. Oil prices ticked higher amid the threats to key routes for global energy supplies.

A federal judge temporarily paused Paramount Skydance Corp.’s $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. saying it “likely” violates antitrust law.
US District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín in Oakland on Monday ordered the companies to hold off on consummating the deal for 14 days. Paramount and Warner Bros. hoped to close as soon as July 22.California and 11 other states sued to block the Hollywood mega-merger on July 13. The states allege the deal, which seeks to combine two of the five largest studios, would harm competition for film and cable TV distribution.Paramount said it will continue to vigorously defend against the suit.
“We are confident the evidence will demonstrate that the state AGs’ antitrust arguments are without merit as their alleged markets and claims of anticompetitive effects are without any basis in modern market realities,” the company said in a statement. “This merger is lawful, pro-competitive, and will benefit consumers, creators, workers, and the entertainment industry.”
The judge scheduled an Aug. 3 hearing on whether to extend the hold for longer. The judge will decide whether to pause completion of the deal until after a trial to decide whether it is illegal under federal antitrust law.

Food-safety experts warned that plans to shutter a US Department of Agriculture research facility will hinder efforts to protect consumers from the foodborne cyclospora parasite — a risk that’s underscored by the outbreak that’s spreading across the country. The agency is in the process of closing the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center just north of Washington, DC, and relocating its programs to facilities across the country under a restructuring plan announced last year. The center has two laboratories that play a significant role in investigating cyclospora as well as coordinating research with other federal agencies.

Chinese AI pioneer Moonshot unveiled a new model that it claims performs on par with some of the top-tier platforms from OpenAI and Anthropic PBC, the latest sign that the Asian country’s artificial intelligence labs are closing a technology gap with the US.
Moonshot released Kimi K3 Friday, touting benchmarks comparable to some of the US labs’ best offerings. The model is open weight, meaning its parameters are available for users to download and customize, and outperforms all rivals except Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 on overall capability, it said.
Moonshot’s latest platform underscores how rapidly China’s AI race is evolving beyond a competition on price alone. Moonshot priced Kimi K3 at roughly Anthropic Sonnet levels, showing the company believes it can charge a premium to other Chinese models given its capabilities.

Shares in Netflix have declined more than 40% over the last year, as the company’s pursuit of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and subsequent financial results have caused investors to worry that the leader in streaming has lost momentum.
