By the Summer of 2021, Bart and Krista Halderson were living the quintessential Midwestern life. They owned a beautiful home in Windsor, Wisconsin, and a rustic family cabin up north in White Lake, where they loved spending time together. They were also preparing to cross the finish line of parenting. Their oldest son Mitchell was a successful tech professional, engaged and in the process of buying a house. Their youngest son Chandler was days away from moving to Florida to work for SpaceX. But on July 7th, 2021, the dream shattered. Chandler went to the police station to report his parents missing. On July 1, 1980, a young mother stood on the side of a remote road in northern San Diego County and watched a stranger drive away with her newborn son. The baby was only 17 days old. His name was Kevin Art Verville Jr., and more than 46 years later, he has never been found. But investigators believe there is a very real possibility that Kevin is still alive, and that he has spent his entire life unaware that the woman who raised him may not have been his biological mother.
Now, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the FBI are asking the public to take another look at Kevinâs case, including a new age-progression image showing what he may look like as an adult. Because somewhere, there may be a 46-year-old man whose entire identity began with a lie.
We're taking a look into Kevin's case this week to spread the word about his disappearance, and hopefully help find him.

In October of 2021, the body of five-year-old Elijah Lewis was found buried in a Massachusetts park. And when Crystal Sorey heard what had happened to that little boy, something inside her panicked- because she had been trying, for months, to get people to listen to her about her own missing child. Her daughter, Harmony Montgomery. Harmony was supposed to be in first grade. She was supposed to be wearing her glasses. She was supposed to be getting medical care for the condition that left her blind in one eye. She was supposed to be protected. Instead, by the time anyone officially started looking for her, Harmony had not been seen in two years. Harmony did not disappear from a life where everything seemed fine. She disappeared after years of warning signs, reports, custody battles, missed appointments, police calls, allegations of abuse, unstable homes, substance abuse, homelessness, and adults pointing fingers at every other adult in the room. Her mother failed her. Her father failed her. Her stepmother failed her. The courts failed her. Child protective services failed her. The systems built specifically to catch a little girl before she fell through the cracks watched those cracks open wider and wider. This was a child who had already spent so much of her tiny life being moved from place to place, plan to plan, home to home. A child with medical needs. A child with a little brother who loved her, missed her, and kept looking for her at playgrounds because he believed, the way children do, that if he looked hard enough, maybe she would just be there. But Harmony wasnât there. And for years, the people responsible for knowing where she was, and making sure she was safe and cared for, simply didnât.

On July 4, 2026, 18-year-old Nolan Wells went missing during a boat trip to Horn Island, Mississippi with a group of friends, but was found dead two days later. Authorities suspect drowning, but the case remains under investigation amid unresolved questions about his final hours, including conflicting statements from his friends. The family, represented by attorney Ben Crump, has called for a thorough investigation and an independent autopsy.

Victoria Castle, a 25-year-old Stony Brook University Ph.D. student, was found dead on June 29, 2026, in the North Massapequa home she shared a building with family. Her brother-in-law, music teacher Joseph Horner, has been charged with second-degree murder after prosecutors alleged a years-long obsession with her. The case remains pending in Nassau County.

On June 23, 2026, six members of a family were found dead inside a Mechanicville, New York apartment during a welfare check. Grandmother Amy Steadman, her daughter Sarah Myers, and Myers' four children, were found poisoned, and a handwritten note and medications strongly suggest Steadman was involved in the deaths, with investigators exploring a possible link to a recent custody decision involving the children's father.

In November 2025, 18-year-old Anna Kepner was found dead aboard the Carnival Horizon, hidden beneath a bed in the cabin she shared with her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, with an autopsy later determining she died of mechanical asphyxiation. Hudson, now being charged as an adult for homicide and aggravated sexual abuse, has pleaded not guilty, and a judge ruled that he will be held in custody before and during his trial. Adam Montgomery's second-degree murder conviction in the death of five-year-old Harmony Montgomery has been overturned by the New Hampshire Supreme Court, which ruled that trying the murder and assault charges together jeopardized his right to a fair trial.
Harmony was believed to have been killed by her father, Adam, in December 2019, but her disappearance wasn't reported until nearly two years later. Her body has never been found.

On November 16, 2012, 37-year-old Cari Farver was reported missing by her mother, Nancy, after she suddenly stopped showing up for work and answering calls. No one had seen Cari since the morning of November 13, but her phone was active, sending messages and posting online, making it seem like she hadnât disappeared at all. Still, Nancy was adamant something was wrong. The messages didnât sound like Cari.
As detectives began looking into Cariâs disappearance, they started receiving reports that she was stalking and threatening multiple people. For more than two years, the behavior continued, growing more intense and dangerous than anyone could have imagined. And by the time detectives finally uncovered what was really going on, they were left trying to untangle a case so complicated, and so bizarre, that prosecutors worried a jury wouldnât believe it was true.

On July 9, 1993, Stephanie Wasilishin, a mother of two, was shot in Sedona, Arizona, with her boyfriend present as the only other adult in the home. Prosecutors ultimately declined to file charges, citing insufficient evidence and conflicting accounts from the suspect. Ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, the case has remained unresolved for over three decades, with Stephanie's daughter Nikki continuing to fight for answers into her mother's death.

On November 16, 2012, 37-year-old Cari Farver was reported missing by her mother, Nancy, after she suddenly stopped showing up for work and answering calls. No one had seen Cari since the morning of November 13, but her phone was active, sending messages and posting online, making it seem like she hadnât disappeared at all. Still, Nancy was adamant something was wrong. The messages didnât sound like Cari.
As detectives began looking into Cariâs disappearance, they started receiving reports that she was stalking and threatening multiple people. For more than two years, the behavior continued, growing more intense and dangerous than anyone could have imagined. And by the time detectives finally uncovered what was really going on, they were left trying to untangle a case so complicated, and so bizarre, that prosecutors worried a jury wouldnât believe it was true.

On July 31, 2022, Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan were killed in Strongsville, Ohio, when Mackenzie Shirilla intentionally drove her car into a brick wall at over 100 mph. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Judge Nancy Margaret Russo found Shirilla guilty of 12 felony counts and sentenced her to two concurrent life sentences with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
