Willy Braun is one of the most respected singer-songwriters in Americana, Red Dirt, and Texas Country music. As the founding frontman, lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter for Reckless Kelly, Braun has spent nearly three decades crafting songs that blend country, rock, folk, and Americana into a sound that has influenced an entire generation of independent artists. His honest storytelling, unmistakable voice, and unwavering commitment to authenticity have made him one of the genre's most admired creative forces.

Raised in the mountains of central Idaho, Willy grew up in one of America's most celebrated musical families. Alongside his brother Cody Braun, he performed from an early age in Muzzie Braun & The Boys, learning the craft of live performance while touring throughout the West. The brothers eventually relocated to Austin, Texas, in 1996, where they formed Reckless Kelly and quickly became pioneers of the modern Red Dirt and Americana movement.

Since the release of the band's debut album Millican in 1998, Willy has written many of Reckless Kelly's signature songs, earning a reputation as one of independent country's finest lyricists. His songwriting ranges from deeply personal ballads to socially conscious anthems, with songs such as "Ragged As The Road," "Seven Nights in Eire," "Wicked Twisted Road," "Pennsylvania Avenue," "American Blood," and "Nobody's Girl" becoming fan favorites and staples of the band's live performances.

Under Willy's leadership, Reckless Kelly has released an acclaimed catalog of albums including Under the Table & Above the Sun, Wicked Twisted Road, Bulletproof, Somewhere in Time, Good Luck & True Love, Long Night Moon, Sunset Motel, American Jackpot/American Girls, and 2024's The Last Frontier. The band has consistently topped Americana and Texas music charts while earning widespread critical acclaim for both their studio recordings and legendary live performances.

Among the band's many accomplishments are a Grammy Award, 2024 Ameripolitan Outlaw Group of the Year, and 2025 Texas Music Chart Awards Entertainer of the Year, cementing Reckless Kelly's place as one of the most influential independent bands of the past three decades.

Beyond recording and touring, Willy remains deeply connected to his Idaho roots through the Braun Brothers Reunion, one of the country's longest-running Americana and country music festivals. Founded by the Braun family more than four decades ago, the annual event in Challis, Idaho has become a beloved gathering that celebrates independent music while giving back to the local community.

Known for his thoughtful songwriting, authenticity, and fiercely independent spirit, Willy Braun continues to be one of Americana's most respected voices. Whether writing deeply personal stories or delivering high-energy performances with Reckless Kelly, his music reflects a lifetime spent honoring tradition while pushing the genre forward. Even as Reckless Kelly transitions away from full-time touring, Willy and the band plan to continue writing, recording, and performing select shows, ensuring their legacy will continue for years to come.

For Texas singer-songwriter Vaughn Segers, country music wasn't just something he discovered—it was part of his identity from the very beginning. In fact, his parents named him after legendary Texas blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, setting the stage for a life deeply rooted in music long before he ever picked up a guitar.

Raised in the heart of Texas, Segers has developed into one of the state's promising independent country artists, blending traditional country, Red Dirt grit, and authentic singer-songwriter storytelling. His music reflects the people, places, and experiences that define Texas life, delivering songs that are honest, heartfelt, and unmistakably country.

Now based in Dripping Springs, Texas, Vaughn has built a growing following through relentless touring, memorable live performances, and a songwriting style that connects with audiences on a personal level. Whether performing solo in an intimate songwriter round or entertaining festival crowds, his warm stage presence and genuine personality make every performance feel like a conversation with old friends.

His debut project, Stone Cold Country Gold, showcases his love for classic country while introducing listeners to a fresh voice with timeless influences. His songs explore themes of family, faith, hard work, heartbreak, and the everyday stories that make country music so relatable.

Vaughn has become a regular performer across Texas and beyond, earning invitations to respected songwriter events, including the 30th Annual Key West Songwriters Festival, where he joined some of Nashville's finest writers in celebrating the craft of songwriting. Those appearances continue to cement his reputation as one of the rising talents in today's Texas country scene.

Although his career is still in its early chapters, Vaughn Segers is proving that authenticity never goes out of style. Inspired by the musical legacy that gave him his name, he is creating a legacy of his own—one song, one stage, and one unforgettable performance at a time.

When he sat down with Byron Duffin on the Musical Miles Podcast, Vaughn shared the stories behind his music, the influence of his Texas roots, and the journey of building a career while honoring the traditions of the artists who inspired him. It's a conversation country music fans won't want to miss.

Country music artist Eli Mosley has built his career on authenticity, grit, and a genuine connection to the western way of life. Born and raised in Central Florida, Mosley wears more than one hat—he's a singer-songwriter, United States Marine veteran, and working cattle ranch manager. Rather than simply singing about country life, he lives it every day, and those real-life experiences shape the stories found throughout his music.

Inspired as a child after seeing Tracy Byrd perform live, Mosley pursued music while remaining deeply rooted in the values of hard work, faith, and family. After serving in the Marine Corps, he began recording in Nashville, producing multiple studio albums at legendary studios including Ocean Way, Sound Emporium, and Studio West. His blend of traditional country storytelling with modern production has earned him a growing national audience.

Mosley's original music has received national radio airplay and streaming success. His patriotic ballad "Soldier's Wife" has surpassed 140,000 streams, while his single "Doin' Alright" reached No. 77 on the MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart, marking an important milestone for the independent artist.

A relentless touring performer, Eli has shared the stage with country favorites including Tracy Byrd, Tracy Lawrence, Joe Nichols, Tyler Farr, Jana Kramer, Parmalee, Jake Owen, and Maren Morris. His live shows combine high-energy country music with the authenticity of someone who spends as much time working cattle as he does performing under stage lights.

As a songwriter, Mosley collaborates with some of Nashville's most respected writers, including Steve Dean ("Watching You" – Rodney Atkins) and Frank Myers, whose catalog includes classics like "I Swear," "I'm Already There," and "My Front Porch Looking In." These collaborations have helped sharpen Mosley's songwriting while allowing him to maintain his unmistakable voice and perspective.

Whether he's touring the country with his band, writing songs in Nashville, or managing a Florida cattle ranch, Eli Mosley represents the modern cowboy—grounded, hardworking, and committed to preserving the traditions of country music while carving out his own path. His music resonates with fans who appreciate honest storytelling, patriotic values, and songs that reflect the everyday lives of hardworking Americans.

Few artists can claim a musical heritage as deep as Matt Axton. As the son of legendary singer-songwriter and actor Hoyt Axton and the grandson of Mae Boren Axton—the celebrated songwriter who co-wrote Elvis Presley's first No. 1 hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," and became known as the "Queen Mother of Nashville"—Matt was born into one of America's most influential songwriting families.

Growing up in Lake Tahoe, Matt spent much of his childhood on tour buses, backstage at concerts, and surrounded by some of the greatest musicians and storytellers of their generation. Music wasn't simply a career in the Axton household—it was a way of life. Those experiences helped shape Matt into an accomplished singer-songwriter whose music blends Americana, country, roots rock, blues, and soul while honoring his family's extraordinary legacy without living in its shadow.

Today, Matt has carved out an identity all his own. A prolific songwriter with more than 300 original songs, he has earned a reputation as an engaging performer whose concerts mix powerful storytelling, heartfelt songwriting, humor, and exceptional musicianship. His music reflects the influence of the American West while embracing the timeless traditions of folk, country, and rock 'n' roll.

Throughout his career, Matt has recorded with acclaimed musicians including Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) and Hal Cragin, collaborated on tribute projects such as Abbey Road Reimagined, and shared stages with artists including Midland, Paul Cauthen, Jim Lauderdale, and Nikki Lane. His performances have taken him to major festivals, historic venues, and listening rooms across the United States, where audiences quickly discover that while the Axton name opens the door, Matt's talent keeps people coming back.

The Axton family legacy is woven into the fabric of American music. Matt's grandmother, Mae Boren Axton, helped launch Elvis Presley's career with "Heartbreak Hotel," while his father, Hoyt Axton, wrote enduring classics including "Joy to the World," "Never Been to Spain," "The Pusher," "Greenback Dollar," and "The No No Song," songs that became hits for artists such as Three Dog Night, Steppenwolf, The Kingston Trio, Elvis Presley, and Ringo Starr.

On this episode of the Musical Miles Podcast, Byron Duffin sits down with Matt Axton to explore one of country music's most remarkable family legacies. Matt shares stories of growing up with his legendary father, the influence of his grandmother's groundbreaking career in Nashville, life on the road, the responsibility of carrying an iconic family name, and how he has forged his own path as one of today's most authentic Americana troubadours. It's an unforgettable conversation about family, songwriting, legacy, and the enduring power of great music.

The Hurdy Gurdy Girls are an all-female roots music trio from Hailey, Idaho, known for blending old-time string band traditions with the grit and spirit of outlaw country. Drawing inspiration from the mountains, mining history, and rural culture of the American West, the band has become one of Idaho's most beloved Americana acts, delivering heartfelt songwriting, rich harmonies, and energetic live performances. Their music combines traditional fiddle tunes, bluegrass influences, classic country, and folk storytelling into a sound that feels both timeless and distinctly Idaho.

The band was formed in 2012 after the members met through the vibrant Wood River Valley music scene. Their name pays tribute to the original "Hurdy Gurdy Girls"—women musicians who traveled through Idaho's mining camps in the late 1800s, entertaining miners with music and dancing.

    Band Members
Joy Lee Spencer – Lead Vocals & Guitar
Founder of the band, Joy Lee brings her Tennessee roots and songwriting talent to the group. She serves as the primary vocalist and rhythm guitarist, helping shape the band's signature blend of old-time music and Americana storytelling.
Annie Maude Bradish – Fiddle, Mandolin & Vocals
Annie Maude provides the driving fiddle melodies and mandolin textures that give the band its traditional mountain sound. Her love of old-time and bluegrass music is a cornerstone of the group's musical identity.
Natalie Rose Ertz – Upright Bass & Vocals
Natalie anchors the band's rhythm section with her stand-up bass playing, providing the heartbeat behind the Hurdy Gurdy Girls' porch-swinging, honky-tonk groove.

Over the years, The Hurdy Gurdy Girls have become festival favorites throughout Idaho and the Northwest, performing multiple times at the Treefort Music Fest, the Yellow Pine Music & Harmonica Festival, the Sawtooth Gathering, and numerous community festivals across the Mountain West. Their original songs explore themes of family, resilience, adventure, love, heartbreak, and life in the mountains they call home.

Whether performing an old fiddle tune, a foot-stomping outlaw anthem, or one of their own original compositions, The Hurdy Gurdy Girls continue to preserve the spirit of traditional American roots music while bringing a fresh, modern voice to audiences throughout the West.

Raised in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, Kaden Minor is part of a new generation of Western artists dedicated to preserving the authentic stories, values, and traditions of the American West. A singer-songwriter, horseman, and working cowboy, Kaden writes and performs songs inspired by the people who make their living from the land, drawing from his own experiences on ranches and in the saddle.

Influenced by legendary Western artists such as Ian Tyson, Brenn Hill, and Chris LeDoux, Kaden's music reflects the grit, honesty, and independence that define ranch life. His songwriting paints vivid pictures of the challenges and rewards of life in the West, earning him recognition at cowboy poetry gatherings, Western music festivals, and ranch-country stages throughout the region.

Unlike many artists who sing about cowboy life from afar, Kaden lives it every day. He and his wife, Lindsay, call the Circle H Ranch in Woodruff, Utah home, where ranch work and horsemanship continue to shape the stories behind his songs. His firsthand experience breaking horses and working cattle gives his music a level of authenticity that resonates deeply with audiences who appreciate real Western culture.

Whether he's performing an original song about ranch life, sharing stories from the trail, or keeping the spirit of the cowboy alive through music, Kaden Minor represents the future of Western music while honoring its rich traditions. For him, the dream was never fame—it was living the cowboy life he always imagined and sharing those experiences through song.
