We really got into the nitty gritty this week as we looked back on the season as a whole and the way the story came together over 8 episodes. We talked about the way the story develops the characters and allows them to grow, the excellent use of tropes to create real depth in the characters writing, the connection between toxic masculinity & homophobia presented, our hopes for Season 2, and so much more!

This week we discussed the Deadloch Season 1 Finale!
We discussed the search for the missing men and Skye, and how Dulcie and Eddie followed the evidence, while Commissioner Hastings and his men went off on a wild goose chase based on their hunches. We talked about the confrontation among the women and the way they're all finally forced to deal with some hard truths about their own selfishness and biases.
We had a great time talking about the reveal of Ray as the killer and his turn at the end. We also talked more about the consequences of what Ray did and Eddie and Dulcie were affected by his actions.

We talked about the reveal of Jimmy Cook’s murder and the ongoing investigation into the women of the town. We got into how Mike Nugent became a suspect and the reveal he wears dresses & is in love with Michele, two characters who are clearly in their own little rom-com world in the midst of our murder mystery!
We also talked about James, who is back, and the relationships between him & the rest of the crew. We talked about Sven’s growing role, how Eddie is proving her capability as a cop, and the themes about colonialism and police bias in this episode.

We talked about how Eddie & Dulcie are finally working together in this episode, and pursuing different female leads in the town. We discussed our continued frustration at the lack of Kevin and celebrated the lack of James and the introduction of a new forensics staff member, Kate.
We talked about how terrible Claire is at therapy and the shit show that is Dulcie's surprise birthday party! We discussed the developing themes about colonialism and the way power dynamics are paralleled between Phil McGangus and Margaret Carouthers.

This week we discussed Deadloch S1, Episode 3.
We discussed the developing relationship between Eddie and Dulcie, and the different reveals about each character, including the death of Eddie's partner Bushy and the fact that Dulcie has no idea what a sloop is.
We also talked more about Cath's lack of boundaries and the issues in James and Abby's relationship. We discussed the way food is woven into the show as a means of storytelling, and our feelings about the different ways Sam O'Dwyer's body was described. Overall, we agreed it was a great episode!

In this episode, we discussed Deadloch Season 1, Episode 2!
We talked about stereotypes about serial killers and the way our killer is being presented, the different suspects, and their victims. We talked about how Dulcie is hitting some major stumbling blocks in the incompetence of the Deadloch residents, and how Eddie’s desperation to leave is making her aggressive with the townsfolk. We also discussed our feelings about the other town members, including our love for Abby, our continued irritation with Cath and our ongoing disdain for James.

In this episode, we are kicking things off with a discussion of Season 1, Episode 1!
This week we are introduced to the people of Deadloch. We meet Senior Sargent Dulcie Collins, the head of police for this small town in Tasmania. Dulcie finds herself as part of an unlikely duo with Detective Eddie Redcliffe, who is called in from Darwin to help investigate the murder of Deadloch local, Trent Latham.
We had a great time talking about the wildly different approaches that Dulcie and Eddie take to this case, as well as their relationships with the various people in the town. We shared our frustration with some of the recurring characters, and our thoughts about the messages of the episode. We can't wait to continue this investigation!
