  • Nature is medicine, and is a deep and wise teacher for each of us, no matter who and where we are, or what stage of our journey we are in. Through our perpetual transitions, metamorphoses, awakenings, and healing processes, nature is there as a steady guide and witness for us.

Our guest on the podcast today, the incredible Willow Defebaugh of Atmos, has dedicated their life to exploring and unpacking these themes, which we dive into in our beautiful conversation today. Together, Willow dives into how they came to this path in life, how nature has been a teacher and guide for her, how grief is the key to being the stewards and caretakers that the Earth is longing for us to be, and so, so much more.

    About Willow

Willow Defebaugh is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Atmos, an award-winning multimedia platform that seeks to re-enchant people with the Earth. She is the author of The Overview, a deep ecology newsletter and book, and host of The Nature Of podcast, named best of 2025 by Apple. She is a lifelong student of nature and graduated with a degree in creative writing from the University of Michigan. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Teen Vogue, V Magazine, Interview, i-D, BBC, The Guardian, Them, New York Magazine, and more. She lives in Brooklyn on unceded Lenape territory with her dog Max Moon.

  • June is tricky and interesting, in terms of energetic invitation. The medicine and balm is clear: rest where you can, reach for pleasure, joy, deep nourishment and laughs where you can, but there is so much more going on under the surface of the month, in terms of invitation. So much process, tons of invitations to dive into deep healing and clearing, likely with some foundations under us feeling like they are more shaky than usual. No matter what life might bring, we are encouraged to stay firmly planted in the realm of what sustains and pours back into our well (this month and beyond).

    Reading for the month ahead:

Card for the month ahead: Eight of Pentacles, Queen of Swords, The Star

Feel/vibe of the month ahead: The Tower/The Tethered One

How can we best work with it?: Four of Swords

What is calling for our attention: Ten of Cups

Aligned action we are invited to take, if any: Knight of Wands

A message from our Guides: Ten of Pentacles

Asia Suler's work has always reminded me of the Beltane/Samhain portal.

It is so lush, rich, and fragrant, such a celebration of the beauty and magic of life, while holding clear and reverent space for the unseen, unknown, and otherworldly realms. It it so fitting that I had the pleasure of having a lovely conversation with Asia for the podcast around this time on the wheel of the year, speaking about everything from parenthood to neurodivergence to magic to healing and so much more.

Asia Suler is a writer, teacher, earth intuitive, the author of Mirrors in the Earth and the host of Remember Why You Are Here. Asia began her journey after early years of chronic pain and illness. The experience— which pushed her into a deep search for healing, both within and without— led her to the altar of the green world and the creation of her online sanctuary, which offers educational experiences in herbalism, animism, and earth-centered personal growth. Asia has guided over 100,000 students in 70+ countries through her immersive online programs. Through her work, Asia helps people embrace their own unique medicine through a joyful engagement with the natural world.

  • How devoted to life are we willing and available to be? How much pleasure are we willing to embrace? It’s a BIG month, filled with lots of birth/bloom energy, while simultaneously holding a lot of space for ease, joy, and non-doing.

I know I have spoken ad nauseam about my adoration of lilacs in various places in my work (see above for one of many), but they really are so special to me. They come and go so quickly, and I really do love to drink them in while I can. It feels like a death meditation that I am very devoted to: drink in the flowers while they are in bloom, show up and live while you can, as you can. This is very similar to what we will be experiencing and invited into in the month of May.

    Reading for the month ahead:

Card for the month ahead: King of Wands

Feel/vibe of the month ahead: Two of Pentacles

How can we best work with it?: Seven of Wands

What is calling for our attention: Nine of Pentacles

  • Pisces season is such a powerful time to examine the material we carry that lives under the surface, under the waves, and outside of the realm of the unseen. It also could not be a more perfect time to dive into a rich conversation with the brilliant and beautiful Lisa Olivera -- it is such an honor to have her on the podcast today!

Lisa Olivera is a writer, therapist, and creative who shares work centered around radical acceptance, cultivating compassion, and integrating our stories and full humanity. Her work has been featured in many publications including The New York Times, Good Morning America, The Guardian, and The Huffington Post. Her first book, Already Enough, was published by Simon and Schuster in early 2022; her forthcoming book, When the Ache Remains, will be released in 2026.

Today on TFTWS, Lisa and I discuss:

Finding the both/and in horrifying times -- how might we be more available to joy amid sorrow, and keep our heart open in unthinkable times? How we can tend to the aches that don't go away, don't resolve, or don't wrap themselves up neatlyLisa's origin story, and how she came to the helping work she so brilliantly offersHer forthcoming book, When the Ache Remains!

  • March wants us to remember that things are not always as they seem. It is so important in these moments to remember that nothing is permanent; nothing is forever.

Our theme for the month ahead is Take Heart. This month, it will be so important to take heart, to stay closely tethered and connected to that deep, wise part of us. It will be so important to retreat, take space for ourselves, get regular reminders of the truths that we need reflected back to us. It will be so important to reach and make space for friends, belly laughs, communal dinners, peaceful moments.

This particular month is a very strong cycle of deep night, and in that night, we are going to be called to be persistent about regularly lighting the candles, torches, hearth fires, and lanterns that warm and help us to see more clearly. What makes you feel comforted and soothed? What helps you to be peaceful? What helps you to remember truth when things feel full of illusion and permanence in ways we don’t prefer?

  • February is a beautiful, transformative portal, one that has the capacity to truly change and alter aspects of our lives that have been stuck and unyielding for so long.

The theme for our month ahead is From Knot to Straight Rope. In February, we will likely be confronted with some of our deep "knots," ones that have felt perpetually twisted, confused, and tricky. We actually have the potential to unknot them this month, and smooth them into something new. Once that has shifted, what could be possible for us? The options are endless.

Between the cards for our month ahead, the energy of the upcoming Eclipses, and the full might of this 1/10/19 year going into full effect, February is gearing up to be a truly profound experience of deep change for us, personally and collectively.

  • 2026 is finally here! We made it 🙌

Our theme for January of 2026 is Brand New Day.

That's an incredibly accurate way to frame this cycle. With the dawning of this new year, it is truly a paradigm shift, and a pivot into a whole host of newfound energies and invitations. This is largely true of all new year thresholds, but it is especially true in 2026.

We're working with some powerhouse energies this month, all to support our shift into this new paradigm. What cannot come with us into 2026? January will be the time to really evaluate that, and to trust the process as new doors open, and old ones close.

  • Want a full deep dive on 2026? Check out Lindsay's offering, The Threshold, a channeled download for 2026 and your year ahead!

In this Year Ahead episode, Lindsay Mack and Jeff Hinshaw explore 2026 as a powerful turning point after several liminal years. They reflect on 2025 as deeply Piscean, shaped by Neptune’s long journey through Pisces since 2011 and marked by the year of the Hermit and themes of grief, waiting, and dissolution. In contrast, 2026 emerges as a universal 1 year, aligned with the Magician, Wheel of Fortune, and Sun in the Tarot, signaling initiation, clarity, momentum, and a return to spiritual authority.

Astrologically, the conversation centers on a major generational shift as both Neptune and Saturn leave Pisces and enter Aries, ushering in a fire-driven era focused on action, identity, and leadership. A pivotal week in February sets the tone, with Saturn entering Aries, an Aquarius New Moon solar eclipse aligned with the Chinese New Year, Year of the Fire Horse, and the rare Saturn–Neptune conjunction at 0° Aries. Lindsay and Jeff frame this as the birth of a new cycle around imaginative leadership and embodied spiritual presence. Jupiter’s move into Leo later in the year further amplifies themes of creativity, joy, and heart-led visibility.

Through looking at Tarot themes, the hosts contrast 2025’s archetypes of patience and preparation (the Hermit and Knight of Pentacles) with 2026’s initiators: the Knight of Wands, Magician, Wheel, and Sun. Drawing on personal reflections from a previous Magician/Sun year in 2017, they explore how these cycles often launch projects and identities that shape an entire nine-year arc. The episode weaves in the importance of working with grief—rather than bypassing it—by transforming it into tools, talismans, and creative practices.

Ultimately, this episode positions 2026 as a year of reclaiming agency and consciously redefining relationships to spirit, community, and collaboration. With the reminder to “allow your mind to be the wand,” listeners are invited to stay discerning, clear unhelpful patterns, and choose collaborations that honor mutual sovereignty and growth. Rather than waiting for permission, 2026 is offered as a true “choose your own adventure” year, one that asks: what is your tool, what is your name, and who are you ready to become?

  • We made it! The last month of 2025 is here!

We are already on that sacred energetic bridge, one that guides us from one year to another -- this particular December is giving us so much to play and work with in order to be ready to greet 2026 with open arms.

The theme of the month ahead is Compost.

What unfinished business remains active and present in your life? What old cords need to be cut? What have you been hanging onto, or dragging your feet on for fear of messing up, making a mistake, or making the wrong choice? This month will be here to help you to clear the deck and start anew, and move into the new year with a clean and ready slate.

  • How can we wisely, tenderly, and radically care for ourselves in vulnerable, challenging moments? How can we show up for others when they are in the same state? This is (just) one of the big questions that this very big and significant month will be posing to us.

November really has the capacity to reorient us, in terms of our work in this world, our purpose, and call to service. It has the ability to really shift the ways in which we habitually respond to ourselves and others.

May we show up in radical, tender care in all moments, joyous, challenging, and everything in between.

Card for the month ahead: King of Pentacles

Feel/vibe of the month ahead: Queen of Pentacles Rx

  • The water is flowing, the metaphorical arrow is flying through the air -- finally, with the month of October comes the movement, clarity, and expansion we've been waiting for. The theme of the month ahead is Create, and if we're willing to work with it, we can make extraordinary moves in our lives.

The big work we will be doing this month isn't actually in the act of creating itself, but the resistance and inner protection that lies between us and this proverbial river, or arrow. The key for us will be to hold the aspects of us that have misgivings and doubts about this process, while taking those longed for leaps into creation and movement at the same time.

Our Soul Tarot Reading for October

Card for the month ahead: Knight of Swords, King of Wands, Wheel of Fortune

Feel/vibe of the month ahead: Four of Cups

How can we best work with it?: Ace of Pentacles and The Fool
