What an absolutely crazy week in video games - and honestly, not really in a good way. Yes, we got Grand Theft Auto VI details, and the Steam Machine was finally dated, but everything else was not so great. Let's get into it in The DayOne Show Episode 320!
Jon, Jesse and even Nick - who tunes in to join us from his holiday in Greece - break down all this week's new, but before that as always, we dive into what we've been playing. Y'know, the fun thing that we're all here for.
We've got a review from Nick on Nintendo's Star Fox, available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 - and hey, it's pretty good if you like Star Fox 64! Fingers crossed we see more from the franchise. Elsewhere, Jon dived into a ton of new Steam Next Fest demos, and came away with some more games to play this year. Jesse has been on a run of different games this week across reviews and previews. From the brine-punk world of Abyssus, rebuilding houses in House Flipper Remastered, making the enemy pay in Devil May Cry 5 on Switch 2 or taking on the world in Dark Scrolls, there's sort of something for everyone.
On the preview front, Jesse checked out a couple of levels in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, amd the lovely Kat played an hour of Star Wars Galactic Racer - which is looking great!Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally fully locked in. Pre-orders are live and the two editions have been detailed, with Sony touting that the game plays best on PS5. Sony have finally begun what had long been rumored, with legendary development studio Bungie suffering huge layoffs and the studio head stepped down, per reports.
Xbox put their consoles on sale across the US, before announcing yet another price increase that shocked players. With this weekly likely bringing layoffs and potential studio closures across the Xbox organisation, it seems to have already begun in some form with Compulsion Games. Still, a relatively positive story dropped via Entertainment Weekly, as Xbox detailed their film and TV ambitions. Gears of War, Sea of Thieves and more are getting movies, and Kojima teased a little more from OD, so that's exciting!
And lastly, Steam Machines reviews have landed - alongside the final pricing for this compact PC - and surprise, it's pretty expensive. All this and more in the DayOne Show Episode 320 - available on demand in video and audio on all podcast platforms.

I think we're all experiencing a little whiplash. After an incredible Summer Game Fest full of fantastic gaming shows and reveals, we now have a week full of potential closures, companies potentially being spun off, and others looking to go indie again. Let's break it all down in The DayOne Show Episode 319!
This week, the lovely Nick is on holiday in Greece, so we're reinforced by the lovely Sam Tolbert from Campaign Mode (yes, you should go subscribe) to talk through all the going's on in gaming this week. Before we get into all the drama, we of course have to acknowledge all the games we've been playing or recently previewed.
From the surprisingly lovely Junkster to the horniness of Hellraiser Revival, there's probably a little something for everyone this week to check out. Jesse has reviews for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, Dave the Diver: In the Jungle and Thank You For Your Application as well previews for Erosion, Bad Magpie, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush and Join Us - suffice it to say, there's plenty to go watch and read!Beyond games of course, there's lots of news to dive into. Xbox and their big reset has been the leading topic of discussion on the internet this week, with lots of rumours of studio closures, and Xbox reportedly knowing they were looking to close or sell Ninja Theory even as they announced and revealed Senua during the showcase.
PlayStation has also been in the news, from updates on their new AI policies, layoffs coming in for Bungie and new ports of some Call of Duty Black Ops classics. In addition, there was heaps of drama around Halo Campaign Evolved, with a new FAQ seeming to indicate that PS+ would be required for split-screen play. Turns out, that it was just an error, so that was a whole heap of drama about nothing! -

We're back from Summer Game Fest, and have regrouped to gather once for another live show. Showcases, video games and terrible margins - we're going to cover it all in the DayOne Show Episode 318!
This week has of course been all about the big summer showcases. While Sony's State of Play broadcast sort of kicked us off, it was Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest live show that began an entire weekend of video gaming goodness. The SGF 2026 broadcast featured some serious fan-favourite heavy hitters like Resident Evil Veronica and the final part of the Final Fantasy Trilogy. The general consensus is that it was undoubtedly the best show Geoff has ever put on for the event.
Xbox followed up with a fantastic showcase, bringing us fresh looks at Fable, Gears of War: E-DAY and Halo Campaign Evolved, while also surprising fans with announcements like 'Hellblade 3', which is just called Senua, the return of Sega's Crazy Taxi and more. It also brought about the return of Xbox Console Exclusives to the joy of many fans in the audience, along with a nostalgic Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Xbox Series X in that gorgeous throwback translucent green. If you were in the audience of Fanfest that day, you got one for free. Pretty cool, Xbox - pretty cool.
Nintendo closed things off with a surprise Direct, which despite feeling sort of bland, contained a ton of really great announcements - including of course the one thing we were all waiting for - a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Despite the onslaught of gaming news, the majority of the team were actually on site for Summer Game Fest itself, and that means a couple of things. One, for our wonderful DayOne Members, we have an exclusive 45 minute video blog of our trip. If you have a current membership, you can watch it right now over here. It also means lots and lots of wonderful previews, which you can catch up on here. We've already got videos and write-ups for things like Minecraft Dungeons 2, Crimson Moon, Turok: Origins, Stuntman: Hollywood, Stranger Than Heaven, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, with even more to come this week. Phew!
In video game industry news, it is once again Xbox making all the noise - or rather, reports and speculation of the future of the platform that's generating the most conversation. Following a great show, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and CCO Matt Booty published an internal memo to Xbox Wire (as it was going to leak anyway) that talked openly about resetting the business, including the reveal that Xbox as an organisation was only achieving a mere 3% accountability margin. Oof.
Further external reports suggest Xbox are planning a major investment into key franchises like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, and even some suggestions that Microsoft are considering spinning Xbox off as it's own entity, in the same way that Linkedin and Github operate. We discuss all these goings on, including trying to understand just why the industry seems to get so "confused" at normal, video game company stuff.
As always, DayOne is only made possible by the people that watch and listen to our work, so big thank you to everyone that supports us directly. Want to get involved? Ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase, we got together for a special live show in Los Angeles to discuss the weeks gaming news and throw out our predictions, dreams and wishes for the big show from Xbox. It's the DayOne Show Episode 317!
There's plenty to talk about this week, from Aarsal's late review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, 007 First Light and of course, our recent preview of Exodus. Despite that, the majority of the show is rightly focused on all the big shows that we've enjoyed this week.
We kick things off with the most recent show, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, with the whole team in agreement that it was without a doubt the best show Geoff's ever done. From Resident Evil Veronica, Alien Isolation 2, a new Cuphead and big surprises like The Last Ronin and the conclusion of the trilogy with Final Fantasy VII Revelation, there were plenty of great games on show. Not to be outdone, we had to talk a little about Sony's State of Play, and the reactions to the big gameplay reveals of things like Marvel's Wolverine and God of War Laufey.
And lastly, it's the night before the big Xbox Game Showcase! Jon revealed a few things from his time at the Xbox Industry Mixer, and we get into all the expectations, hopes and wild dreams that will be possibly realised tomorrow.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is here, and we've played it. The SteamDeck's price is skyrocketing, and everyone is afraid of Asha Sharma's latest internal memos. Join Nick, Jesse, and Aarsal in The DayOne Show Episode 316!
It's been a busy week in games as well as news, so there's plenty to talk about on this episode. With Jon out at UK Games Expo for Console Wars the Card Game, Nick, Jesse and Aarsal get together to chat about the latest goings on.
First up it's Aarsal's time in the spotlight with his thoughts on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 after this time with Infinity Ward while out on assignment. You can read his thoughts on the campaign and the multiplayer. We've all been playing 007 First Light, and are having a thoroughly great time with what feels like a real Game of the Year contender!Jesse's also got a double bill of video game reviews this week, after tackling the excellent Mina the Hollower and the improved-on-the-original Echo Generation 2. Beyond that, Nick has been playing Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and shares his thoughts on the latest Nintendo Switch 2 release.
When it comes to news topics, we're not short on things to discuss this week on DayOne. Fable has been delayed to February 2027, and Xbox fans are up in arms when it comes to Xbox displaying their competitors logos on trailers at the Xbox Showcase next week.
Valve's SteamDeck handheld got a shocking price increase, and has many gamers questioning if the Steam Machine will even release considering the issues facing supply for memory and storage for these sorts of devices. All this and more in the DayOne Show Episode 316. -

From live Forza Shows to incredible video games, it's been another busy week, and the start of a marathon! Let's talk about all the weeks happenings in The DayOne Show Episode 315!
We've been enjoying Forza Horizon 6 along with everyone else this week in what has been a quieter week in terms of video games releases overall. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is out, and while a late review may be on the cards, we're all just enjoying the game - it's excellent. We do have a review of recent Game Pass addition Luna Abyss up on the site for folks that are interested - just head here.
Where the week hasn't been so quiet is in video game news! We divert off on to a tangent about stealth games and how the mechanics aren't really about realistic stealth before diving into the latest headlines.
Sony have announced a new State of Play, and they're inviting journalists and pundits to come and sit in a room to watch it, so it certainly sounds like it might be a big one. And thank goodness this positive news arrived when it did, because Bungie have announced the end of Destiny 2 support, with Bloomberg reporting that lay-offs at the legendary studio are imminent. Poor Bungie. Oh, and because there's never enough money to go around, the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions is going up. Oof.
Elsewhere, Xbox leadership changes continue with a couple of new hires, and a brand new Xbox Game Studios shop is now online. Following the capitlisation of XBOX, fans are now wondering what the next generation of Xbox hardware is going to be called. Will Asha ask the community to name it (We hope not)?
Lastly, we did see a surprising leak of some new Virtua Fighter footage which looks utterly fantastic, and SEGA even teased something for Crazy Taxi. With showcase season fast approaching, we can't wait to see all the new games over the next few weeks. All this, plus your community questions, so jump in! -

Two big games launched this week, and there's plenty of news to talk about. Let's get into things in The DayOne Show Episode 314!
We kick off the show talking about a bunch of the games we've been playing this week! The biggest of course is Forza Horizon 6, which is as incredible as you were probably hoping it to be. We've also been diving into titles like Directive 8020, Subnautica 2, Call of the Elder Gods, Outbound and the very surprisingly addictive Black Jacket - which we thoroughly recommend.
There's a bunch of news topics to dig into this week. We've attended a real life Forza Horizon festival, and we've seen Forza Horizon 6 already pull in over 1 Million Players in it's Premium Access Launch. Grand Theft Auto 6 has made headlines thanks to some pre-order affiliate emails going out from Best Buy, suggesting that pre-orders for the game will open on May 18th.
Xbox made a few headlines, with a disc-to-digital program on the cards and plenty of controller leaks from a new Cloud-gaming controller to the Elite Series 3. Loads more on this episode, so jump in! -
