The "Tarzan" radio show, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' popular character, first aired on September 12, 1932, and ran until December 26, 1953. The show starred several actors as Tarzan, including James H. Pierce, Lamont Johnson, and later, Clayton "Bud" Collyer. The show also featured Joan Burroughs, the daughter of Edgar Rice Burroughs, as Jane.
The show followed Tarzan's adventures in the jungle, where he was raised by apes and learned to survive in the wild. Tarzan encountered various dangers, including dangerous animals, hostile tribes, and greedy poachers. Along with his friends Tantor the elephant and N'kima the monkey, Tarzan fought against those who threatened the peace of the jungle.
The show's popularity led to various spin-offs, including "Tarzan and the Diamond of Asher," "Tarzan and the Fires of Tohr," and "Tarzan and the Vengeance of Dombie." The show also inspired a comic strip, comic book, and numerous films.The "Tarzan" radio show was one of the longest-running adventure shows on radio and helped popularize the character in popular culture. The show's legacy can still be seen in various adaptations of the character in film, television, and literature.
