The Alabama Freshwater Fishing report is your best resource for the Lake Guntersville Fishing Report, Weiss Lake Fishing Report, Lake Eufaula Fishing Report, Mobile Tensaw Delta Fishing Report, and all the creeks, rivers, and reservoirs in between.
This week we’re checking in first with Lee Pitts to hear how the crappie are biting on the Coosa River lake chain. Lee is reporting rapidly warming conditions, and as fish begin to move to spring patterns it seems “everything works.” Lee reports they’re catching them all the way from 30 to 4 feet deep, and that the shallows are already hitting 65 degrees in some places.
Next up we have Tina Morrison from the Gadsden here to let us know that the Rainbow Trout put-n-take fishery below Noccalula Falls on Black Creek is looking great this year. The pool below the falls has been stocked with 2,000 lbs of fish, and Tina reports that many of them were in the 10-12” range.
After that, we’ve got Clayton Batts reporting in from the Lake Eufaula area. Clayton reports hot bass action, and is staying busy putting clients on big fish and gearing up for the 2025 tournaments. He reports 25+lbs bags coming in off of the lake, meaning we’re already off to a hot start this year!
Finally, we have Andre Davis here to let us know that the creeks are already firing up, and that fly anglers can anticipate chilly wading conditions still, but hot topwater action as winter thaws and fish begin looking up.

This week we’re checking in with Dip McMillian to talk about how to use forward-facing sonar to locate roving schools of wintertime crappie. Host Nick Williams got to sit in the passenger seat with Dip on a recent trip where Dip put on a masterclass in cold water sonar usage and boat handling skills. Tune in to learn how to sweep large areas with sidescan, how to know when to leave uncooperative fish alone, and how to juggle fishing, livescoping, and boat positioning all at the same time. Stick around to hear Dippi Outdoors’ plans for the 2025 year.
Next up we have a special flyway report from Mobile Baykeeper’s Executive Director, Will Strickland. While waterfowl season has been rough across much of Alabama this year, Will and his Boykin, Lilly, were able to end the season with a “bang” and take home some Mobile-Tensaw wood ducks after the “snowpacolypse” thawed. Will also has good news to report regarding the federal mud dumping in Mobile Bay, reporting that commercial fishermen, recreational anglers, local conservation groups, and a key politician are all uniting in an effort to keep the bay clean and clear for generations to come.
Finally, we have Steve “the Graz” Graziano reporting in on bass activity on Lake Eufaula. With the wild temperature swings we’ve been experiencing, fishing has been challenging, but Graz has the tips you need to think on your feet and be adaptable as we finish out our fickle winter and move into an early, southern spring.

This is a special rebroadcast of the Alabama Freshwater Fishing Report. The report that is your best resource for the Lake Guntersville Fishing Report, Weiss Lake Fishing Report, Lake Eufaula Fishing Report, Mobile Tensaw Delta Fishing Report, and all the creeks, rivers, and reservoirs in between.
This episode Nick Williams is joined by Anthony Rabern with Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Earlier in the year we talked about Georgia’s Black Bass Slam, and this week Anthony is here to discuss their Trout Slam. Join us as we talk about the state’s efforts to stock brown and rainbow trout, and to hear about the wild brook trout populations in the Chattahoochee National forest. If you’re looking for a good excuse to find yourself “cloud hidden, whereabouts unknown” in Georgia’s mountains, you won’t want to miss this segment
Next, Nick talks with Norm Latona with Southeastern Pond Management, about pond fountains and pond aeration systems. Now is a great time to start thinking about getting ahead of the stratification that warm weather can bring to a pond, and today Norm talks about what aerators, fountains, and destratifiers will and won’t do for your private pond.

This week we’ve got two awesome deep-dives into winter fishing from Peter John Cole and Peter Jordan.
First up we have Peter John Cole reporting in from the Cahaba River. If you enjoyed our recent Big Bass Special with Steve Graziano (where we discussed how to find big winter bass holed up in large reservoirs) but you fish free-flowing rivers, then you’ll love this section. Join us as Peter gives us the skinny on deep water river lunkers. Where to find them, how to tempt them, and how to wrangle them all the way to your landing net.
Next up we have Peter “The Lost Angler” Jordan to give us a really thorough breakdown of typical winter fishing conditions in lower Alabama. Winter brings cold, muddy water, and this week Peter gives us a detailed breakdown of what exactly that does to the fishing. Join us as we discuss how vegetation die-off shifts forage and therefore bass movement in watersheds, the importance of scent and motion when targeting fish in muddy waters, and the importance of a little-known but widely-spread forage species that you’ve probably imitated a thousand times without ever actually seeing in-the-flesh.

This week we’re starting off in the Tennessee River area with Jason Whitehead reporting on the bass situation on Lake Guntersville. Chilly weekend forecast aside, the winter has been unusually mild this year, and Jason reports that the action is strong.Tune in to hear how Jason is filling the boat with hungry bass pulled out of the grass.
Next up we have Justin Dunnam, our resident kayak angling expert. Justin is happy to report that he was able to make excellent use of his holiday time off; catching specks, reds, bass, and crappie throughout South Alabama and the Milton, FL area. Join us as he shares some secrets to success, and stick around to hear the upcoming tournament schedules for the Mobile Bay area.
Last we have Dip McMillian to talk about winter floods, the importance of keeping a good fishing journal, the Mobile-Tensaw Delta crappie forecast, and the importance of taking a kid hunting or fishing. As always, we’re thrilled to hear about the work Dippie Outdoors is doing to connect kids to the outdoors.

To ring in the New Year, we’re revisiting a conversation we had with Bryant Bowden about the Georgia Black Bass Slam. If you’re looking to make a fun and challenging New Year’s Resolution, the Slam offers a great opportunity to get out and explore the astonishing biodiversity typical of the southeast. Georgia is home to no fewer than 10 distinct species of Black Bass, and the Slam is a fun and unique challenge that can take anglers from the Appalachian headwaters all the way down to the coastal wetlands in pursuit of these aggressive and sporty fish. Join us for tips on completing the slam, as well as a primer on the unique conservation challenges such astonishing biodiversity brings.

In this special Christmas episode, we welcome show regular Steve Graziano ("Graz") back for a deep dive on how to catch big bass during the coldest months of the year. Graz emphasizes that the colder months of December through February are ideal for targeting trophy bass as they actively feed in preparation for the pre-spawn. Early mornings are the most productive time to catch these giants, and key areas to focus on include creek mouths, ditches, and spots near deeper water. Jigs, Carolina rigs, blade baits, and tail spinners are among the baits he finds most effective in winter conditions.
Graz highlights the importance of using good electronics to locate fish and adapting to conditions such as water clarity and temperature. He encourages anglers to embrace winter fishing, noting the predictability of bass behavior during this time of year. Patience and persistence are crucial, as is staying safe and comfortable by wearing life jackets and dressing appropriately for the cold. Graz’s stories of double-digit bass and lessons learned from years on the water are sure to inspire listeners to brave the chill and get out there.

First up this week we have Dr. Matthew Lewis (AKA, Dr. Redeye) joining us to talk about…trash.
Yep, “trash” fish are growing in popularity with anglers, and this week we have the good doctor here to tell us more about some of Alabama’s hardest-hitting, strongest-fighting fish that you may not know that much about. Join us to learn about gar, grinnell, buffalo, carp, pickerel, and other nongame fish. We’ll discuss where the unfortunate term “trash fish” came from, explore the vital roles these fish play in maintaining the health of our waterways, and chat about our experiences fishing for them.
Next up we’ll talk with our friend Melissa Williams over at Bucks Island to talk with us about the latest phenomenon on the lakes…fishing pontoon boats. Join us as we talk about how more and more anglers are mixing fixing with family leisure and buying do-all boats that can cruise, ski, and provide stable fishing platforms.

In this episode, Nick welcomes Steve Graziano ("Graz") from Lake Eufaula, who shares that the bass fishing has been outstanding due to rising water levels after recent storms. Graz mentions that, although the water got muddy, things have settled, and the shad and bass have moved back into predictable patterns. He describes recent trips where they caught nearly 75 bass in a day, including a mix of largemouth and spotted bass. He shares tips for fishing during these peak conditions, including using a spinning setup, casting techniques, and teaching clients how to hold rods correctly for more accurate casts. Graz emphasizes that the fish are moving in groups, staying shallow as the baitfish have stayed in clearer, shallower waters. He also highlights the importance of experimenting with bait, including a new favorite, the "Jelly Bean" finesse worm from Zoom, which has been producing great results.
Next, Peter Jordan from the Mobile-Tensaw Delta joins the show. He talks about the excellent conditions for both fly and conventional fishing, with creeks like Tensaw, Escatawpa, and Perdido showing strong bites, particularly for Choctaw bass. Peter shares his go-to tactics, including using topwater flies in the morning and switching to streamers later in the day. For conventional tackle, he’s had success with redfish magics and paddle tail grubs. Peter also updates listeners on the delta’s fishing action, mentioning that redfish, bass, and specs are all biting well, and he’s been enjoying some family fishing adventures too.
Lastly, Jimmy Stiles, a PhD student at Auburn University specializing in human-snake conflict, joins to provide essential tips on venomous snake safety for anglers. Jimmy emphasizes the importance of learning how to identify Alabama’s six venomous snake species and offers practical advice to reduce dangerous encounters. He stresses the importance of watching where you place your hands and feet, particularly around boat ramps, banks, or when flipping over boats. He also discusses what to do if bitten—highlighting the importance of staying calm, removing constrictive clothing, and getting to a hospital for anti-venom treatment. Jimmy dispels common myths about snake bites and reinforces that prevention and awareness are key to staying safe while enjoying the outdoors.

First up we have Peter John Cole reporting in from the Cahaba River. Peter reports that fishing is hot despite the low, clear water conditions on the Cahaba River, particularly in Bibb and Shelby counties. The topwater bite is still strong, with the Ribbit Rhol and double-barrel poppers being effective. He highlights the challenge of fishing in low water and emphasizes the importance of adjusting presentation to suit the conditions. Right now, Peter recommends fishing with smaller topwater flies, like the No. 4 Ribbit Rhol, to catch bigger Alabama bass in this clear water. Anglers can expect fish to be concentrated around shoals where oxygen levels are higher. Additionally, Peter shares some tips on reading the water and using slower, less aggressive approaches when necessary to entice fish.
Next up we have Dip McMillan from the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Dip discusses an upcoming squirrel hunt event on the Upper Delta WMA, focusing on getting kids involved in small-game hunting. Scheduled for December 7th at Hubbard’s Landing, the event will offer gun safety instruction, hunting with dogs, free food, and camaraderie. Dip also provides a brief fishing update for the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, noting that the crappie are moving into their fall pattern, with good bites reported in 6-10 feet of water on structure. He suggests targeting crappie using minnows and jigs, particularly as the fish are becoming more aggressive ahead of the colder months.

With Hurricane Helene bearing down on the Gulf Coast and throwing off storms, we’re changing pace this week to revisit some old episodes we’ve recorded with our friends at the various Waterkeepers organizations.
First up, we have Justinn Overton with Coosa Riverkeepers reporting on the Coosa RIver. Justinn monitors the waterways around Weiss Lake, Logan Martin Lake, Lake Jordan, Lay Lake, and Neely-Henry. She’s an avid outdoorswoman and environmentalist that has the information you need to know to keep you and your family safe while you’re out on the Coosa Lake Systems this weekend.
Next up, we have Will Strickland, Executive Director of Mobile Baykeeper. Will is an avid fisherman, a competent wing shot, and a passionate defender of our state’s waterways. Catch-and-eat anglers will definitely want to listen until the end to learn about local fish consumption advisories and where you can find information on them in order to keep you and your family safe and healthy
Finally, we talk with Cahaba Riverkeeper David Butler. While we talk a good bit on this show about the Chattahoochee, Tennessee, and Coosa Rivers, but the Cahaba is very much a “forgotten gem” of a river that every fisherman should get out on at least once to experience some truly wild fishing.
