Last year Annelle Sheline resigned from Biden's State Department in protest of the administration's support for Israel's genocide in Gaza. She returns to Bad Faith podcast to provide new insight into how the State Department routinely deprioritized or flat out ignored reports about human rights abuses so that it would not have to contend with domestic laws prohibiting weapons sales to countries that failed to meet human rights standards. In her new piece for the Quincy Institute she breaks down the mythology around America's role as global peacekeeper, and exposes how weapons sales drive US foreign policy.

Civil rights lawyer and social justice advocate Alec Karatkatsanis returns to Bad Faith to talk about his new book Copaganda: How Police & The Media Manipulate Our News. Alec zeroes in on the liberal media and political sphere to explain the establishment left's role in pushing the mythologies that fund the police, defund social services, and make the world less safe. Alec responds to growing pro-police arguments on the left, in particular the claim that the left needs to take crime more seriously if we want to win. Is Ana Kasparian right? Or does funding the police have no relationship to public safety?

National Co-Director of feminist anti-war group Code Pink Danaka Katovitch joins Bad Faith to discuss Sen. Tom Cotton's attacks on their group and Sen. Jim Banks' allegation that Code Pink is in violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. Since October 7th, establishment politicians have been cracking down on protests. In the wake of April 5th's huge anti-Trump protests, we ask, what is the future of civil disobedience and direct action? Are they effective politcal tools, or just outlets for the managed release of public discontent? Does Code Pink have insights and/or strategies to maximize this moment?

He assesses Elon's discovery of "magic money machines" -- confirming that the government doesn't need to tax to spend, and breaks down what Democrats should (but won't) say to exploit mass frustration with Trump's economic policy.

In a conversation that's immediately so rich Briahna forgets to introduce him, preeminent Gaza scholar, author, and professor Norman Finkelstein addresses how the crusade against wokeness is being weaponized by some, like Columbia Professor John McWhorter, to justify pro-Zionist free speech crackdowns on campus, and whether left-critics of woke excesses have any responsibility to adjust their critiques as a response. He also debates the utility of the term "Zionism" versus "Jewish Supremacy," and offers Brie a hilarious bit of dating advice. It's a sprawling, intimate conversation you wont want to miss.

Friend of the show and People's Policy Project wonk Matt Bruenig returns to Bad Faith to give the insider perspective on the lawsuits against health tech CEO Bryan Johnson. You may know Johnson as the guy who used his kid as a "blood bag" (i.e., injected himself with his son's plasma) and who goes to great lengths to "live forever." As it turns out, he has also gone to great lengths to prevent his employees from talking about the hostile work environment they allegedly worked under. Matt represents several former employees in their labor lawsuit contesting the confidentiality agreements they were made to sign. Come for tech guru gossip, stay for some preliminary thoughts on the Abundance discourse that has recently taken over left media.

Former United Nations human rights official Craig Mokhiber returns to Bad Faith to weigh in on recent developments in Palestine, including Israel's choice to end the ceasefire, the catastrophic Israeli strikes resulting in the death of about 400 Palestinians, nearly half children, the recent U.N. report on Israel's use of sexual violence against Palestinians, and the state of international law as it attempts to hold Israel accountable. It's an expansive, philosophical conversation that probes the possibility of U.N. reform in light of American funding and veto power, and the declining utility of "international law." Stay until the end for a powerful argument for the value of a human rights framework despite how limited our international legal institutions are in enforcing said framework.

Columbia grad student Layla S., whom you may know from the highly informative Twitter account @itslaylas, joins Bad Faith to talk about the government kidnapping of her friend and Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil, and ICE's deportation threats against two other pro-Palestine student protesters: Ranjani Srinivasan, who self-deported, and Leqaa Kordia, who was detained last week. Layla puts these events in the context of the broader crackdown on college protests under the Biden administration, which laid the foundation for the current abrogation of First Amendment rights for critics of Israel.

Former U.S. Representtive Jamaal Bowman makes his first appearance on Bad Faith to talk about the future of the Democratic Party and whether he still has faith in an inside/outside strategy after AIPAC spent an unprecedented sum of millions to unseat him last year. Brie and Bowman debate the merits of Force The Vote, whether FTV activists had "no plan," and whether the Squad's alternative plans justified their inaction in that moment.

MintPress News reporter Alan MacLeod returns to Bad Faith to tell the story of how Elon Musk was mentored by his CIA handler to become the ultimate insider: a defense contractor for the US government who is now involved in a project to double the number of nuclear bombs in existence, and build an "iron dome" for America which would end the era of "mutually assured destruction" and nuclear peace. How did Mike Griffin, the COO of In-Q-Tel, a private enterprise funded by the CIA, come to have such a close relationship with Musk that Musk named his favorite child Griffin? What is the end goal of Musk's involvement in the defense sector? And how are conservatives like Musk and Tulsi Gabbard negotiating the "America First" anti-interventionism of the base now that they've gone full insider?
