    WEEK 17: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    This week, we’ll cover the first three chapters of Mosiah and the first half of King Benjamin’s sermon. His words to his sons and people are centered on service and offer us a powerful glimpse of true leadership. His recounting of the angel’s words will help us recognize the character of the Savior.

    Questions to Consider:

    1. Mosiah 2:5-6 | Mosiah asked that the people gather in families, each in their own tent. Question: How does this approach mimic home-centered, church-supported learning? Why would this bless Benjamin’s people? How does it bless us?

    2. Mosiah 2:36-37 | Benjamin warns that he’s teaching them truth and they’ll be held accountable for the knowledge they receive. He warns not to “withdraw themselves from the Spirit.” Question: Often we talk about the Spirit withdrawing from us. How do we withdraw from it? What does it mean to give the spirit “no place in us”?

    3. Mosiah 3:5 | The angel says Christ will come in a tabernacle of clay. Question: How does the word tabernacle/tent help you understand this second estate of mortality? Why clay? How does that word add to our understanding?

    WEEK 16: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    This week we cover hundreds of years of Nephite history in a few short, powerful chapters. First we’ll study Enos’ wrestle before the Lord and understand the power of prayer. Next, we’ll watch the small plates change hands multiple times from Enos’ son Jarom through many generations. We’ll also study the exodus of the righteous Nephites from the land of Nephi into the land of Zarahemla. Finally we’ll jump hundreds of years in time to study the words of Mormon and understand the far-reaching miracles of God’s plan for the Book of Mormon.

    Questions to Consider:

    Enos 1:6-7 & 16-17 | How does an increase in personal testimony allow you to stop asking how things will happen and find rest in God’s timetable?

    Enos 1:20 | What does it mean to have a “fixed hatred” and how does that stem from letting our “evil nature” dominate?

    Jarom 1:4 | What does it mean to have a stiff neck? What is the opposite state that allows us to be closer to the spirit?

    Jarom 1:11 | Does our prophet ask us to do something similar? When have you had to choose to live “as though” a promised blessing has been fulfilled?

    Words of Mormon 1:13-14 | How does this strategy apply to us? Which talk from conference echoed this message for you?

    April 8 - April 14, 2024

    WEEK 15: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    Jacob’s final teachings will focus our attention squarely on the Atonement of Jesus Christ. In Jacob 5, he’ll teach us Zenos’ allegory of the Olive Tree to help us understand the depth and infinite scope of God’s love for His children. Next, in chapter 6, he’ll urge us to be reconciled to God through Christ in this life and not procrastinate the day of our repentance. In chapter 7, Jacob we teach us how to be unshaken in the face of fierce opposition when he encounters Sherem, the first Anti-Christ of the Book of Mormon.

    Questions to Consider:

    Jacob 5:4 | How do you see agency and omnicience working together in the same space. As an omniscient God, why does he speak in possibilities?

    Jacob 5:18 | Have you seen examples where those who are new to the Covenant draw strength from and simultaneously add strength to the Church?

    Jacob 5:30-31 | How can the trap of being busy but not productive in the Lord’s way lead to apostasy in us?

    Jacob 7:4 | Why is flattery such an effective tool of the adversary? How do we guard against it?

    Jacob 6:5 | Do you see connections between cleaving and covenants? How do we cleave unto God?

    April 1 - April 7, 2024

    WEEK 14: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    This week, we’ll turn our attention to Jacob. He’ll pick the prophetic mantle from his incredible brother Nephi. Jacob’s people are beginning to sin in two key areas: they are lifted up in pride and attempting to justify sin regarding the law of chastity. While their particular sins are unique to their time, the root causes and remedies are applicable to our day. Jacob invites us to shake ourselves from sin and reconcile our will to God.

    Questions to Consider:

    1. Jacob 1:5-7, Do you think Jacob’s diligent labor could change the Nephites fate? Or is it sealed?

    2. Jacob 1:10-11, Do you see physical protection and spiritual protection in the actions of our prophets today? What’s the equivalent to the sword of Laban in our day?

    3. Jacob 2:6-9, How can a feeling be tender, chaste or delicate? Could these feelings relate to testimony too?

    4. Jacob 3:1-2, When have you experienced an opportunity to find relief in your afflictions rather than escape from them?

    5. Jacob 2:35, What does it mean to have a heart die? Can it be revived? Do the stories of hearts like Jairus’ daughter, Lazarus, and the widow’s son provide hope for those who have deep wounds?

    Questions for week 12

    2 Nephi 31:19 | How is unshaken faith possible at this early stage on the strait and narrow path?

    2 Nephi 31:20 | Where did you see the “bright hope” Elder Maxwell articulated demonstrated in Nephi’s life?

    2 Nephi 32:3 | We often think of feasting as a metaphor for how we consume. Are there other ways “feasting” applies to the Words of Christ?

    2 Nephi 33:6 | We often speak about being His children, His brother and sisters, His covenant people. How is He also ours?

    2 Nephi 33:15 | Earlier in his life Nephi said things like I will go and do the things the Lord hath commanded. Now, he says “he must obey.” Why? Is this a more mature form of obedience? Does it mirror the Savior’s obedience somehow?

    WEEK 11: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    Nephi saw the latter-days with clarity and power. He understood the strategies of the adversary and the incredible promises of God. This week, we’ll study the coming forth of the Book of Mormon well over 2000 years before Moroni delivers the plates to Joseph Smith. Nephi will help us understand that God’s promises are available to all of His children and that He has a plan to extend the blessings of salvation to each and every person in His time.

    On the creative side of week 11, we’ll teach about the flaxen cords of the adversary with a simple book shuffling experiment. Next, we’ll reinforce how all are alike unto God with an epic Peeps taste test. Finally, we’ll create a bouquet of tulips to talk about the line by line process of revelation.

    1) “He Bindeth Them with His Strong Cords”: Shuffled Book Experiment

    2) “All Are Alike unto God”: Peeps Taste Testing Challenge

    3) “Line upon Line, Precept upon Precept”: Origami Tulip Craft

    WEEK 09: SUMMARY

    =================

    Lesson Summary:

    This week, Nephi will guide our hearts toward reconciliation with God through the words of Isaiah. We’ll study Isaiah’s prophecies about the scattering and gathering of Israel and apply those messages to our own modern-day discipleship. We’ll try to unravel the meaning behind some of Isaiah’s most powerful passages by focusing on what his prophetic words can teach us about our Savior, Jesus Christ.

    First, we’ll play a speed game to help our kids get familiar with the words and symbols of Isaiah. Next, we’ll defy gravity with an uphill water flow experiment to teach about choosing the harder right rather than the easier wrong. Finally, we’ll use printable fishing lures to break down the truth-distorting techniques of the adversary.

    Week 9 Questions

    2 Nephi 11:8 | How do you think understanding Isaiah’s time, history, geography, and prophecies helps with the Gathering?

    2 Nephi 12:3 & 5 |Where do you see the prophet and apostles doing this today

    2 Nephi 13:12 | What do you think the phrase “destroy the way of thy paths”

    2 Nephi 15:25-30 | What other symbols can mean both good and bad things? Why does the Lord teach with contrasts?

    2 Nephi 19:6 | We usually attribute counselor to the Holy Ghost. Why does this title fit the Savior so well?

    2 Nephi 6:12-13 | President Nelson said, “A loving but grieving Father scattered Israel far and wide, but He promised that one day scattered Israel would be gathered back into the fold. What experiences in your life help you relate to the mixture of love and grief Heavenly Father experienced?

    2 Nephi 9:18 | President Eyring said, “trials are necessary for us to be shaped and made fit to receive that happiness that comes as we qualify for the greatest of all the gifts of God.” How does adversity shape us so we can receive a fulness of joy?

    2 Nephi 9:50 | Why does it say “buy milk and wine” and not “come enjoy milk and wine”? What other nourishment is he offering with this word choice?
